<p><span dir="auto">During May 2026, </span><strong><span dir="auto">the transportation, communications, postal and storage sector registered an annual drop of 102,005 jobs in Mexico</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE), prepared by the </span><a href="https://www.inegi.org.mx/default.html"><span dir="auto">National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to the survey, the country&#8217;s logistics sector reported </span><strong><span dir="auto">3,414,375 jobs in the fifth month of the year</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , while in May 2025 it was 3,516,380, representing a decrease of 2.9% in the period.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">According to the ENOE, in May 2026 </span><strong><span dir="auto">the Economically Active Population (EAP) was 62.1 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , an annual increase of 460,000 people.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">By gender, the economic participation rate for women was 45.8% and for men 74.2%. Compared to May 2025, women&#8217;s participation was very similar, while men&#8217;s decreased by 0.7 percentage points.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">The employed population reached 60.4 million people (97.2% of the economically active population), an annual growth of 438,000.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">By sector of economic activity, the employed population was distributed as follows: </span><strong><span dir="auto">services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> concentrated 26.8 million people (44.4%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">commerce</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 12 million (19.9%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industry</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 9.8 million (16.2%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting and fishing</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 6 million (10%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">construction</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 4.9 million (8%); and </span><strong><span dir="auto">other economic activities</span></strong><span dir="auto"> —which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply— 381 thousand (0.6%) in the cycle.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the reference month,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">the unemployed population was 1.7 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , representing an annual increase of 22,000.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">The economically inactive population (EIP) was 43 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , an increase of 949,000 people compared to May 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In May 2026, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">underemployed population</span></strong><span dir="auto"> —people who reported needing and being available to work more hours than their current job demands—was 4.2 million, 40,000 fewer than in May 2025.  </span><strong><span dir="auto">The underemployment rate stood at 7%</span></strong><span dir="auto">  of the employed population, a decrease from 7.1% to that recorded in May 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">During the cycle,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">the population employed in informal labor was 33.4 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> and the rate of informal labor was established at 55.2% of the employed population, a percentage higher than the 54.9% of May 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">On the other hand,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">employment in the informal sector was 18.3 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which meant 30.3% of the employed population, 1.5 percentage points above that reported in the fifth month of 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to the ENOE results, in May 2026 employment in Mexico showed growth compared to the same month in 2025; however, there was also an increase in employment in the informal sector.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In </span><strong><span dir="auto">the logistics sector, the annual decline has been felt more acutely</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , indicating a slowdown in the labor market in this industry associated with a slowed Mexican economy.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In response, the logistics industry has shown resilience and continues to be driven by the growth of activities such as e-commerce, which demands more </span><strong><span dir="auto">warehousing and transportation</span></strong><span dir="auto"> services .</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">In April 2026, </span><strong><span dir="auto">the transportation, communications, postal and storage sector registered an increase of 190,141 jobs in Mexico</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , according to the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE), published this Thursday by the  </span><a href="https://www.inegi.org.mx/default.html"><span dir="auto">National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to the survey results, </span><strong><span dir="auto">the logistics sector reported 3,514,246 </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">jobs</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in the fourth month of the year, while in April 2026 it was  </span><strong><span dir="auto">3,324,105</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which meant an annual increase of 5.7%.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">This increase in logistics is in line with the rise that the ENOE recorded in April 2026, which was 62.1 million people in the </span><strong><span dir="auto">Economically Active Population (EAP)</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , an annual increase of 669,000 people.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">By gender, the employment of women was 24.8 million (an annual increase of 494,000) and that of men was 35.8 million (an annual increase of 210,000).</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">By sector of economic activity, the employed population was distributed as follows: </span><strong><span dir="auto">services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> accounted for 26.8 million people (44.2%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">commerce</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 11.7 million (19.3%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industry</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 10 million (16.4%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting and fishing</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 6.1 million (10.1%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">construction</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 5.2 million (8.6%); and other economic activities —which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply— 330 thousand (0.5%).</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the reference month, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">unemployed population</span></strong><span dir="auto">  was 1.5 million people, which meant an annual decrease of 35,000 people.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The number of  </span><strong><span dir="auto">underemployed people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , that is, those who declared a need and availability to work more hours, was 4.3 million people or 7.1% of the employed population.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">informal workers</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in April totaled 33.4 million, and the rate of informal employment stood at 55.2% of the employed population.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The ENOE figures are presented in a context of uncertainty due to the United States&#8217; tariff policy, which has spread globally and has affected various productive sectors in Mexico and, consequently, the employment rate.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The increase in jobs in the logistics industry reflects the importance of this sector to the country&#8217;s economy, especially given the rise of e-commerce, which demands more warehousing and transportation services.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">By gender, the economic participation rate for women was 45.1% and for men 73.8%. Compared to March 2025, women&#8217;s participation decreased by 0.5 percentage points and men&#8217;s by 1.3 percentage points.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">The employed population reached 60.2 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> (97.6% of the economically active population), an annual growth of 422,000 people.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">By sector of economic activity, the employed population was distributed as follows: </span><strong><span dir="auto">services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> concentrated 27 million people (44.9%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">commerce</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 11.9 million (19.9%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industry</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 9.4 million (15.6%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting and fishing</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 6.3 million (10.4%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">construction</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 4.6 million (7.7%); and </span><strong><span dir="auto">other economic activities</span></strong><span dir="auto"> —which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply— 417 thousand (0.7%) in that period.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the reference month, </span><strong><span dir="auto">the unemployed population was 1.5 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , representing 2.4% of the economically active population.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">The economically inactive population (EIP) was 43.6 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , an increase of 1.7 million people compared to March 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In March 2026, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">underemployed population</span></strong><span dir="auto"> —people who reported needing and being available to work more hours than their current job demands—was four million, 100,000 more than in March 2025. </span><strong><span dir="auto">The underemployment rate stood at 6.7%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> of the employed population, an increase from 6.6% in March 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">During the cycle, </span><strong><span dir="auto">the population employed in informal labor was 33 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> and the rate of informal labor was established at 54.8% of the employed population, a percentage higher than the 54.3% of March 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">On the other hand, </span><strong><span dir="auto">employment in the informal sector was 17.7 million people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which meant 29.4% of the employed population, 0.4 percentage points above that recorded in the third month of 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to the ENOE of March 2026, employment in Mexico has remained resilient in the face of factors such as the uncertainty caused by the United States&#8217; tariff policy, which has affected various productive sectors of the country.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">However, </span><strong><span dir="auto">the annual decline has been felt more acutely in the logistics sector</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , indicating a slowdown in the labor market in this industry associated with a slowed Mexican economy that has affected domestic consumption.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Given this, the logistics industry continues to undergo a period of readjustment due to the growth of activities such as e-commerce, which has been one of its drivers, with the </span><strong><span dir="auto">demand for more warehousing and transportation services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">According to the ENOE, in December 2025 the </span><strong><span dir="auto">Economically Active Population (EAP)</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was 61.9 million people, an annual increase of 1.1 million.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">By gender, the economic participation rate for women was 45.6% and for men 74.3%. Compared to December 2024, the participation rate for women decreased by 0.4 percentage points and for men by 0.3 percentage points.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">By sector, the employed population was distributed as follows: </span><strong><span dir="auto">services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> accounted for 26.6 million people (44.1%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">commerce</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 12.4 million (20.5%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industry</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 9.5 million (15.7%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting and fishing</span></strong><span dir="auto">  6.4 million (10.6%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">construction</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 4.7 million (7.8%); and </span><strong><span dir="auto">other economic activities</span></strong><span dir="auto"> —which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply— 378 thousand (0.6%).</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the reference month, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">unemployed population</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was 1.5 million people, a figure similar to that of a year earlier. The unemployment rate was 2.4% during the reference period.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The </span><strong><span dir="auto">economically inactive population (EIP)</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was 42.8 million people (40.9% of the population aged 15 and over), representing a growth of 1.1 million people compared to December 2024.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In December 2025, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">underemployed population</span></strong><span dir="auto"> (people who declared a need and availability to work more hours than their current job demands) was 3.7 million, 324,000 less than in the last month of 2024. The underemployment rate stood at 6.2% of the employed population, a drop of 6.9% compared to that recorded in December 2024.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">informal workers</span></strong><span dir="auto">  in December 2025 totaled 33 million, and the rate of informal employment was established at 54.6%, a higher percentage than the 53.7% of the last month of 2024.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">According to the ENOE at the end of 2025, employment in Mexico has remained resilient in the face of factors such as the uncertainty caused by the United States&#8217; tariff policy, which has spread globally and affected various productive sectors of the country.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Although a decline was recorded in the logistics industry, this sector continues in a period of readjustment in the face of the growth of activities such as e-commerce, which demands more warehousing and transportation services for the final delivery of products to the consumer.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">In October 2025, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">transportation, communications, postal, and warehousing sector</span></strong><span dir="auto">  registered an increase of </span><strong><span dir="auto">68,351 jobs</span></strong><span dir="auto"> in Mexico, according to the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE)</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , published this Friday by the  </span><a href="https://www.inegi.org.mx/default.html"><span dir="auto">National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to the survey, the sector reported  </span><strong><span dir="auto">3,388,841 </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">jobs</span></strong><span dir="auto"> in the tenth of the year, while in October 2024 it was  </span><strong><span dir="auto">3,320,490</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which meant an increase of 2.05 percent.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">This increase in the logistics sector is in line with the rise that the ENOE recorded in October 2025, which was 62.5 million people in </span><strong><span dir="auto">the Economically Active Population (EAP)</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , an annual increase of 1.1 million people.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">According to Inegi, “by sex, the employment of women was 25.3 million (an annual increase of 567,000) and that of men was 35.6 million (an increase of 463,000).”</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">By sector, the employed population was distributed as follows: </span><strong><span dir="auto">services</span></strong><span dir="auto"> accounted for 27.2 million people (44.6%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">commerce</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 12 million (19.7%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">manufacturing industry</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 9.8 million (16.1%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">agriculture, livestock, forestry, hunting and fishing</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 6.3 million (10.3%); </span><strong><span dir="auto">construction</span></strong><span dir="auto"> 4.8 million (7.9%); and </span><strong><span dir="auto">other economic activities</span></strong><span dir="auto"> &#8211; which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply &#8211; 359 thousand (0.6%).</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the reference month, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">unemployed population</span></strong><span dir="auto"> was 1.6 million people, which meant an annual growth of 96,000 people.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The number of </span><strong><span dir="auto">underemployed people</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , that is, those who declared a need and availability to work more hours, was 4.6 million people or 7.5% of the employed population.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile, </span><strong><span dir="auto">informal workers</span></strong><span dir="auto"> in October totaled 33.9 million, and the rate of informal employment stood at 55.7 percent.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The ENOE figures are presented in a context of uncertainty due to the United States&#8217; tariff policy, which has spread globally and has affected various productive sectors in Mexico and, consequently, the employment rate.</span></p>

<blockquote><p><span>According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the </span><strong><span>employed population</span></strong><span> reached 59.9 million, an annual increase of 88,000. Furthermore, &#8220;by sex, female employment was 24.3 million (a decrease of 52,000) and male employment was 35.6 million (an increase of 140,000).&#8221;</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span>By sectors, the employed population was distributed with 43.9% of the total in </span><strong><span>services</span></strong><span> , 20% in </span><strong><span>commerce</span></strong><span> , 16.5% in </span><strong><span>manufacturing</span></strong><span> , 10.4% in </span><strong><span>agricultural activities</span></strong><span> , and 7.8% in </span><strong><span>construction</span></strong><span> in April 2025.</span></p>
<p><span>In the reference month, the </span><strong><span>unemployed population</span></strong><span> was 1.6 million, a year-on-year decrease of 43,000, and the unemployment rate was 2.5% of the working population.</span></p>
<p><span>The number of underemployed people, that is, those who reported the need and availability to work more hours, was 4.3 million, or 7.1% of the employed population.</span></p>
<p><span>Meanwhile, informal workers totaled 32.7 million in April, increasing the informality rate to 54.7 percent.</span></p>
<p><span>These figures come amid uncertainty over the U.S. tariff policy, which has spread globally and is affecting various productive sectors in Mexico and, consequently, the employment rate.</span></p>
<p><span>It&#8217;s worth remembering that the </span><a href="https://www.imef.org.mx/"><span>Mexican Institute of Finance Executives (IMEF)</span></a><span> estimated  </span><strong><span>200,000 jobs</span></strong><span> by 2025.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.banxico.org.mx/"><span>The Bank of Mexico (Banxico)</span></a><span> also indicated in its Quarterly Report that it expects between  </span><strong><span>110,000</span></strong><span>  and  </span><strong><span>290,000</span></strong><span> formal jobs to be created in Mexico this year. By 2026, it forecasts the creation of between </span><strong><span>270,000</span></strong><span>  and  </span><strong><span>470,000</span></strong><span> jobs.</span></p>
