SAP Mexico concluded a year of solid results, marked by double-digit growth and the consolidation of technology projects in various industries , as stated by Paola Becerra, president of the company, highlighting that more organizations are taking decisive steps towards modernizing their processes and business models

Becerra emphasized that 2025 was driven by key implementations with clients such as San Pablo Farmacia , Bachoco , and companies in the automotive sector, among others. These organizations, he said, are pursuing three main objectives in their digital evolution: greater operational efficiency through process optimization and cost reduction ; a next-generation technology foundation , where modernization ceases to be a limitation and becomes an enabler of growth ; and comprehensive business transformation , guided by best practices from more than 25 industries that SAP serves globally.

He noted that technology is a key driver, but emphasized that the human component remains crucial.

“Transformation involves changing processes, culture, and the status quo, and that remains one of the country’s biggest challenges,” he commented.

Looking ahead to 2026, SAP Mexico will maintain a strong commitment to solidifying its position as the leading technology partner in enterprise applications, data, and artificial intelligence .
“We want technology to stop being seen as a problem of obsolescence and become an engine for continued growth,” Becerra emphasized.

For many companies, talking about digital transformation still refers to warehouses or administrative processes , but in transportation, fleet digitalization has become a critical tool for improving road safety, optimizing costs, and attracting talent that is currently scarce in the sector.

“Five years ago, we still found fleets operating without GPS, blindly. Today, telemetry, video, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions are essential. It’s no longer enough to know where the truck is, but how it’s being driven and what opportunities there are for improvement,” explained Luis Daniel Gómez, Senior Sales Manager at Webfleet .

According to Gómez, one of the main barriers remains resistance to change. For example, companies that still rely on phone calls or WhatsApp tracking lack real visibility into what’s happening with their units.

“There are companies that say, ‘I’ve been operating like this for 30 years and I don’t have any problems.’ But in reality, they’re missing out on savings opportunities and exposing themselves to unnecessary risks,” he warned.

Contrary to popular belief, safety and productivity are not mutually exclusive . Gómez explained that an employee who feels cared for, who knows their workday is well managed, and that there are tools to protect them, will be more loyal, efficient, and likely to remain with the company.

In a context where the operator shortage is critical, retaining talent has become a priority.

In addition, digitalization also helps meet environmental goals , with tools to measure carbon footprints and make decisions based on real emissions data.

In this sense, Webfleet solutions allow real-time monitoring of driving habits: harsh acceleration, braking, sharp turns, fuel consumption, and even the time a vehicle remains idling.

“With this data, the client can identify drivers engaging in risky behavior, train them, and prevent accidents,” he said.

One of the most powerful advances has been the incorporation of AI cameras .

These can detect distractions such as cell phone use, not wearing seatbelts, unsafe lane changes, and even signs of drowsiness. The camera issues alerts in the cabin and also notifies the fleet manager.

Gómez shared the case of a client whose operator was involved in a fatal accident caused by a third party.

“Thanks to the video evidence, it was possible to prove that the operator was not at fault. This not only freed him from legal consequences, but also confirmed the value of having technology that protects lives,” he said.

The trends for the immediate future are driven by Artificial Intelligence. Webfleet is already working on a new phase of its platform with virtual assistants that will allow users to view key data such as the vehicle with the highest fuel consumption or the most kilometers traveled through conversational bots like ChatGPT .

Technologies are also being developed to identify operators using cards, and cameras’ ability to detect real drowsiness, not just distractions, is being improved.

“This is no longer science fiction. The technology is already here, and fleets that don’t jump on the digitalization bandwagon will be at a disadvantage. We are here to support them in this process,” emphasized Luis Daniel Gómez.

On February 19, the Latin American Confederation of Customs Agents (CLAA) held the 2nd Edition of the IAduana Symposium, an event that seeks to promote innovation and the use of technology in customs processes ; where John Willy Kolter, president of the organization, highlighted how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming international trade and customs processes.

He mentioned that, from the first mathematical models to today’s advanced technologies, AI has evolved significantly and has become a key tool in process optimization.

“Artificial intelligence is no longer just a futuristic concept. Today, it facilitates decision-making, improves security and optimizes the management of goods in real time,” he said.

An example of these advances is the work of OpenAI , whose development has allowed AI to be accessible not only to large corporations, but also to small and medium-sized companies, where, currently, models such as Chat GPT and emerging tools are making a difference in strategic sectors.

In this regard, Willy Kolter assured that the CLAA is promoting the adoption of these technologies to guarantee more efficient and secure processes , since customs agents and their legal representatives have a great responsibility in the modernization of the sector, so events such as this symposium are key to learn, interact and adopt new technological solutions.

In this context, the president of CLAA mentioned that “the future has not only arrived, it is queuing up at customs. Are you ready to let it in?”

Tariffs, a threat that will impact the economy and innovation

On the other hand, John Willy Kolter highlighted the impact of political decisions on the economy and technological innovation , in particular, he addressed the recent tariff proposals by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, against Mexico and Canada, measures that could reach up to 25% tariffs and seriously affect the supply chain in North America.

“While combating fentanyl trafficking and migration are urgent challenges, imposing tariffs could bring more negative consequences than real solutions. The economy and technological innovation depend on trade stability,” Kolter said.

He explained that Trump has justified these tariffs as part of his strategy to curb fentanyl trafficking and irregular migration to the United States, a problem that has gained great relevance, since in 2022 more than 70 thousand deaths from opioid overdoses were recorded in the neighboring country.

The executive therefore stressed that Mexico must demonstrate a real commitment to the fight against drug trafficking and customs security , not only to avoid tariffs, but also to strengthen regional cooperation for the benefit of the three nations.

In an environment where you first have to learn the rules of the game and then play, Gustavo Vargas, founding partner and general director of Grupo Ezencial , highlighted how the changing business landscape requires adapting and understanding new dynamics to capitalize on opportunities.

Their analysis highlighted the importance of reliable data and risk management strategies , in the context of the transformation of the offshoring model, to the digitalization of processes and the restructuring of the economy in Mexico.

According to Vargas, the current business game has changed radically, as factors such as the pandemic, geopolitical volatility and digital transformation have modified traditional strategies.

“If we do not understand the new rules, our companies may be relegated to a red ocean, where competition becomes destructive, rather than taking advantage of emerging opportunities,” he said.

He added that the message is clear: knowing and adapting to these rules is essential to avoid losing ground in an increasingly demanding global market.

For decades, the offshoring model moved manufacturing to low-cost Asian countries, however, various factors have driven a new trend of relocating factories and services ( nearshoring ), especially in territories such as Mexico.

“Mexico is seen in the business world as the ‘rabbit on the moon,’ a metaphor for opportunities that many have yet to fully appreciate,” said Gustavo Vargas.

During 2023, historic levels of foreign direct investment were recorded , not only in new capital but also in reinvestments by companies that already had operations in Mexican territory, which reaffirms the credibility and development potential of the country, positioning it within the world’s top ten in attracting investments and purchase and sale operations, mergers and acquisitions.

In this regard, the executive pointed out that digitalisation has become a fundamental tool for competing in this new environment.

Vargas highlighted the need to transform information. For example, having unstructured data makes decision-making difficult, while structured data allows us to analyze the past, understand the present and project the future.

On the other hand, proper management of information prevents overpayments, tax contingencies and loss of credibility with authorities, so the use of specialized data analysis software allows inefficiencies to be detected and corrected in real time.

“Data has a soul, and it is the interpretation we give it that defines the future of our business,” said Gustavo Vargas

He also indicated that not only private companies are investing in digitalization, but Mexican authorities have made progress in consolidating digital systems that increase transparency and trust.

This symbiosis between the public and private sectors translates into greater guarantees for investors and the consolidation of a favourable environment for economic development.

Furthermore, the use of innovative concepts such as neuroeconomics allows us to explore how intangible factors – including mental health and the emotional environment in organizations – can impact business efficiency and growth.

“Technology is not an investment, but a strategy for the future,” he said.

During the Smart Logistics event, “The Future of Efficient Mobility” organized by the company, Yuliana Díaz also highlighted the importance of change , emphasizing that the question is no longer whether technology should be adopted, but whether one is prepared to lead the digital transformation in companies.

He pointed out that today artificial intelligence is present even in cell phones and that this evolution requires companies to implement integrated and real-time solutions to respond to market demands.

From Excel to integrated systems

One of the most notable points mentioned by the management was the criticism of the prolonged use of traditional and manual tools such as Excel .

While it can be useful in the early stages of maturity, Díaz explained that relying on spreadsheets carries significant risks such as outdated information, calculation errors and a lack of integration that can trigger operational problems.

“Excel is a vulnerability for companies, because it does not offer us real-time information and can generate critical errors in our operations,” warned Díaz.

He gave real-life examples of inefficient maintenance monitoring of units , which can lead to delays, penalties and financial losses.

The specialist pointed out that the adoption of specialized systems , such as a modular ERP for transportation, offers advantages such as real-time information, integration of areas, better negotiation with clients, among others, which improves and speeds up decision-making and impacts profitability.

Overcoming resistance to change

Another key aspect that Díaz addressed was resistance to change in both work teams and business leaders.

Yuliana Díaz pointed out that, although the transition can generate fear, it is essential to communicate a shared vision and train teams to make the most of the new technological tools.

“The future is in our hands; as leaders, we have the responsibility to be visionary and adopt technological tools that drive growth,” said Tiastica’s CEO.

He also proposed some strategies to implement technological solutions in companies, in which he listed as the first point an analysis of the needs and requirements of each business area in the short, medium and long term.

Likewise, technological allies should be sought that offer support, training and constant updates.

Finally, the specialist recommended having a structured action plan for implementation, with defined times that facilitate the transition and adoption by users.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the launch of the AWS Mexico (Central) region, and as part of its plans, the company plans to invest more than five billion dollars (mdd) in the country over the next 15 years.

“This launch marks an important step as we continue to expand our infrastructure and deliver global innovation in machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and other advanced technologies to our customers,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS.

Kalyanaraman explained that the new AWS region will help companies across Mexico to be at the center of AI and ML innovation, with the help of secure and reliable infrastructure, along with a broad set of technologies.

In this way, developers, startups, entrepreneurs, as well as government, educational and non-profit organizations, will have options to run their applications and provide service to end users from AWS data centers located in Mexico .

“We are proud to deepen our investment in Mexico to help support business transformation, foster technology talent, develop cloud skills, and create opportunities for economic growth,” said Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS.

In parallel with the investment, AWS launched the AWS InCommunities Fund with assets of $300,000 that will be allocated to Querétaro to help local groups, schools, and organizations start new community projects.

During the presentation, Paula Bellizia, CEO for Latin America at AWS, said that the investment will help Mexico position itself as a digital hub and leader in Latin America , as well as modernize the country’s industries thanks to the talent of Mexican workers and the quality of education.

“From our point of view, it is very important to invest in Mexico because it represents a great opportunity, it is very well positioned. Not only for Mexico, but from Mexico to other parts of the world. The country has the conditions to be competitive in various industries and in various parts of the business segment. We have very good expectations… an investment of this magnitude reflects our vision of the future for Mexico,” said the CEO.

For her part, President Claudia Sheinbaum explained that the announcement by AWS is important for the investment per se, as well as for the creation of jobs that are estimated to reach seven thousand positions, in addition to opening up opportunities for Mexican companies to develop.

“ The launch represents an important milestone in Mexico’s digital transformation . AWS’s investment of more than $5 billion will strengthen Mexico’s technological infrastructure and open up new opportunities for innovation, economic growth, digital inclusion, and job creation,” said Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy.

With the AWS Mexico (Central) region, AWS now has 114 Availability Zones in 36 geographic regions; specifically, in the country it consists of three Availability Zones located far enough apart to support customers’ business continuity, but close enough to provide low latency for highly available applications that use multiple Availability Zones, AWS explained.

The company explained that the AWS Mexico (Central) region will allow customers with data residency preferences to securely store their content in Mexico, achieve even lower latency, and meet the demand for cloud services throughout Latin America.

“We are here to stay in Mexico, because this investment is much more than just building cutting-edge data centers; it is a decisive and sustained commitment to the socioeconomic growth and digital future of this great country and of all Mexicans,” added AWS CEO for Latin America.

AWS offers a broader and more comprehensive portfolio of services, including analytics, computing, databases, IoT, generative AI, machine learning, mobile, storage, and other cloud technologies,”

“The launch of the AWS Mexico (Central) Region will strengthen our country’s digital infrastructure and open up new opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable socioeconomic growth, in line with our vision of a more connected and competitive Mexico,” said Altagracia Gómez Sierra, coordinator of the President’s Business Council.

Finally, Mauricio Kuri, Governor of Querétaro, stated, “AWS’ unprecedented investment in data center infrastructure places Querétaro and Mexico at the digital forefront of Latin America, establishing a new benchmark in technological innovation.”
