With almost three years in the market and a track record that has allowed them to reach nearly a thousand units deployed in the country, DAF Mexico , in its quest to continue advancing in the market, has now delivered a tractor-trailer on loan to Transportes Monroy Schiavon (TMS) .

The unit that TMS ( a member of the Top 100 of Automotive Transport® ) will be testing is the XG 480 tractor truck with a capacity to develop 480 hp, and which integrates all the passive and active safety tools such as retarder, vision cameras and proximity sensors, as well as a better vision from the incorporation of the new cab that improves the angles for the operator.

The delivery of the tractor unit on loan was managed by the Kenworth DAF Metropolitanos dealership , which together with DAF Mexico will be monitoring the unit’s performance.

“Our goal with this loan agreement is to conduct a performance test of the vehicle on one of the many routes they have throughout our country. They are highly professional in their performance measurement infrastructure, they have several brands in their fleet, so they have a lot of experience in getting the most out of the vehicles and at the same time being able to conduct an objective test with measurable results,” Jorge Cañedo, Sales Director of DAF Mexico, told T21.

During the delivery of this unit, TMS executives, led by Raúl Monroy Reus, president of the company, and Raúl Monroy Otero, deputy general manager, were presented with all the benefits of the technology incorporated in the DAF XG unit , the advances in the design of the cab, the PACCAR engine powertrain and the ZF transmission; elements that allow for better performance and, compared to the previous generation of the XG model, have a fuel savings of 10 percent.

EINDHOVEN, NL. – While driving along Rijksweg 2, the highway that connects Amsterdam with Eindhoven in the Netherlands, the just over 125 kilometers that separate both cities allowed a group of Mexican transporters participating in DAF Experiences to confirm the brand’s presence not only in the country but also in Europe, and to learn about the multiple applications that exist with the various models, which were put to the test on the DAF track.

DAF Experience is DAF ‘s proposal for customers, in this case Mexican transporters, to have an immersion with what this brand of Dutch origin represents and which will reach a century of life in 2028.

“DAF Experience brought together 26 transport companies from Mexico, along with the brand’s dealers in our country, and also featured the financial proposal with Paclease,” highlighted Jorge Cañedo, Sales Director of DAF Mexico.

At the presentation of the DAF plant in Eindhoven, the brand’s manufacturing headquarters, Jorge Cañedo stated that PACCAR, owner of the DAF, Peterbilt and Kenworth brands , has the mission of creating value for its companies and providing support for all trucks.

“PACCAR, like all global companies, has 87 years of positive returns for its shareholders, but those profits aren’t just distributed to investors. Instead, they’re focused on creating more and better trucks with greater technological capabilities worldwide. In the last five years, more than five billion dollars have been invested to generate more capacity and new technologies, to achieve a more efficient and environmentally friendly transportation system,” Cañedo added.

During a three-day visit, the transporters had the opportunity to tour the Eindhoven plant , witnessing the site where 200 trucks and tractor-trailers are manufactured daily, using advanced technology, and allowing them to see firsthand the high-tech manufacturing processes.

This factory consists of the engine plant, the stamping plant, the truck assembly line, the development center, an engine testing center, and the electric truck assembly plant; all in an area of ​​260,000 square meters (m2) where 7,500 employees converge.

The PACCAR Distribution Center (PDC) was also visited , from where the process for globally locating parts for the various models available, such as the Peterbilt, Kenworth and DAF brands, as well as TRP products, which can be used by other brands, could be identified.

Mexican transporters and distributors were also able to visit DAF’s cab and axle plant located in Westerlo, Belgium; from where 200 cabs and 550 axles are manufactured daily to meet the production needs of the Eindhoven plant.

At the Westerlo plant, which houses the cab and axle assembly facilities and paint booths offering over three thousand different color combinations, more than 140 robots play a key role in the cab and axle assembly process. This factory covers an area of ​​132,000 square meters and employs 2,500 people.

Globally, PACCAR has a presence with its Peterbilt and Kenworth brands, mainly in North America and some South American countries, as well as Australia, while in the rest of the world its presence is through DAF: Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

In addition to introducing the brand globally, Tim Plasberg, DAF’s Marketing & Sales Support Manager, spoke about the competitive advantages of DAF models, with advances in aerodynamics that allow it to offer better fuel performance and efficiency, as well as passive and active safety with new camera systems in the rearview mirrors or the development of the cabins.

In terms of efficiency, Plasberg specified that the new generation of engines for the XF, XG and XG+ models provide greater torque, better performance at low engine revolutions and thus greater productivity for carriers.

One aspect that Tim Plasberg highlighted is the evolution that PACCAR/DAF engines have undergone in complying with the EURO emissions standard, and where from EURO 4 in 2005 where the average consumption was 34 liters per 100 kilometers (2.9 km/lt), they are now at just over 25 liters with the new generation, that is, close to 4 km/lt.

Having the surname Martos, although it gave him the possibility of continuing the work of his grandfather, and of his father Alfredo Martos Gallegos, current president of Grupo BACE , controller of Kenworth del Centro and Kenworth del Bajío , was not a guarantee for his advancement in the company.

His growth within the company has been gradual, allowing him to become familiar with all areas and gain a better understanding of the business. Since the age of 20, he has held various positions, including one focused on selling specialized fleet services, which he combined with his academic training as an Electromechanical Engineer.

Carlos is aware that the transport business lies in the support and after-sales service it provides to customers, and that is why his career has been focused on those areas, where he gradually advanced in various fields, but always close to the transporters.

Spending time with Carlos at meetings with transport companies makes it clear that he is constantly growing in his market and strengthening his business relationships with his clients, where his knowledge of all service verticals allows him to make well-founded contributions.

Since 2022, he has been part of the Board of Directors of Grupo BACE, and as part of the family, he must maintain a strategic vision for the solid growth of the company and its consolidation in the region.

PACCAR Mexico celebrated the “PACCAR Experience” event , an initiative in which 80 attendees, including customers and dealers, participated in a tour of PACCAR’s technological development and innovation facilities in Washington , United States.

The participants visited key facilities in PACCAR’s value chain. The first part of the tour was at the Kenworth manufacturing plant in Renton , dedicated to the production of the W900 Legacy model and focused on highly specialized models, such as those used in mining and petrochemicals .

After more than a year of the DAF brand’s presence in Mexico, PACCAR Mexico  announced the appointment of  Jorge Álvaro Cañedo Taddei as the new DAF Sales Director for Mexico and Latin America .

In a statement, Alejandro Novoa, general manager of PACCAR Mexico, announced that in this new assignment, Cañedo Taddei will relocate to Mexico City , where he will assume responsibility for leading the marketing strategy for DAF units in Mexico and Latin America. In his new role, he will report directly to Tonathiu Venegas, which will strengthen the brand’s growth in the region.

Jorge Cañedo is a certified public accountant who graduated from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) and has over 26 years of experience with PACCAR Mexico .

During his career at PACCAR, he has held various positions, including Regional Credit Manager, PFM Area Manager (PACCAR Financial Mexico), and PFM Dealer Credit Manager. For the past 11 years, he has served as Sales Director for Latin America, the last seven of which have been based in Santiago, Chile.

PACCAR reported an “exceptional” financial performance , as the manufacturer described it, for the first quarter of 2025 (1Q25), despite economic uncertainties and market challenges, according to the company’s report.

The company highlighted in its 1Q25 report that it is well positioned in the global truck market , with a strong focus on the growth of its premium products , as well as the development of advanced technological solutions, including electric and autonomous vehicles.

PACCAR ‘s 1Q25 revenue was $7.4 billion , down slightly from $8.7 billion in the same period last year.

El cargo PACCAR Mexico recognizes the best performance of its dealers apareció primero en T21.

For Transportadora Zemog, safety is part of a business strategy and its constant processes, which has been incorporated into the work culture and not only because of its slogan: “We transport safely.”

Focused on the beverage and food industries, summer is the period with the highest consumption for Zemog clients, and it is precisely the planning of this season that translates into maintaining that culture of quality.

“We see a lot of need in current clients, but we must be very analytical of the operations and needs they have, where we must see sections, routes, operations; We must understand that transport companies have limited resources,” César Aldana, general director of Zemog, commented in an interview with T21.

With a focus on institutional clients, the challenges for Zemog are that it faces demanding operations, where high investments in infrastructure are required, but also to maintain operating levels.

Recently, PACCAR Mexico announced that the first delivery of a unit of its DAF tractor truck in the country was for Zemog. César Aldana shared that when the brand’s directors visited him, he was one of the first carriers to raise his hand to have one of these models in his fleet.

“We are institutional with suppliers, we need good partners. The Mexican market has been filled with cab over units, that is why when we reviewed the renewal plans with PACCAR, the decision was made to incorporate DAFs,” recalled Aldana.

The DAF models with their cab over configuration are a solution for Zemog in its operations in large cities, “we operate in the metropolitan areas of Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico; where we have single and full operations (double trailers) of more than 100 kilometers per day, but in an environment of narrow roads and with these models we have a 2.5 meter advantage for maneuverability,” he added.

In addition to the configuration, Aldana specified that the DAF’s passive and active safety technology, such as proximity sensors, peripheral vision cameras , and other elements such as visibility and automatic transmission, were a factor in incorporating these models.

El cargo Planning with Customers, Key to Maintaining Safe Operations: ZEMOG apareció primero en T21.

To address the growing demand for heavy-duty vehicles and to strengthen DAF’s presence in Mexico, PACCAR has begun importing these units via containerized cargo ships, which has changed the manufacturer’s import logistics.

Bertha García, leader of the Customs Area at PACCAR Mexico and customs agent for Kenworth Mexicana, explained in an interview with T21 that from the origin (Europe), the units are placed in a flat rack container that allows for the transportation of the units in a simple, agile, and safe manner.

“Once at the destination (port of Veracruz), we deconsolidate them; this has been a challenge because it is a completely new operation, but it is giving us advantages in the arrival times of the units because, unlike roll-on-roll-off ships that have sporadic departures, containerized cargo ships are arriving at least once a week,” García detailed.

Although the speed of unit arrivals is positive, on the other hand, it is also a challenge, as the manufacturer has fewer free days to remove the equipment from the port and avoid additional costs.

In this regard, the customs specialist detailed that they have suppliers who have facilitated the operation and have contributed to improving processes and streamlining costs day by day, with the aim of avoiding errors, reducing times, and ensuring that the units arrive in the best conditions.

“The more physical handling the unit undergoes, the higher the risk of suffering some type of damage. That is why our task is to improve the flow of documentation and work hand in hand with the transporters,” she confirmed.

Under Bertha García’s supervision, the customs operation of the new units is carried out, both for import and export, which are manufactured at the Mexicali plant and have North American and Latin American markets as their final destination.

“For units moving to the United States and Canada, my patent is used as a customs agent for Kenworth Mexicana, and in the case of exports to Latin America, these are carried out through Veracruz, Manzanillo, and Mazatlán. We also export units through Chiapas destined for Central America, mainly to Costa Rica,” García detailed.

In the case of imports and exports, the customs area under García’s supervision coordinates operations to ensure they reach their destination. For example, for the DAF units recently introduced to the Mexican market, they must ensure there are no delays due to any customs documentation.

Likewise, Bertha is in charge of international treaties regarding spare parts, raw materials, and units. “We verify that the materials comply with all provisions so that the units do not pay import duties in the destination country. We work to ensure that they are all at a zero rate, applying some benefit. Also, for raw materials, we verify that the certificates of origin are national or, in the case of importation, are originating to avoid paying taxes,” García explained.
