The Latin American Confederation of Customs Agents (CLAA) celebrated the opening of its new offices in Mexico City, consolidating its growth with its own premises and its commitment to the modernization of the customs sector.

During the event, John Michael Willy Kolter , president of CLAA, highlighted that these new facilities represent “much more than a physical space, it is a heritage of the confederation, a worthy place for all our collaborators and an exceptional image for the sector.”

He added that this space symbolizes the identity and values ​​of CLAA , in addition to strengthening the union and collaboration between all actors in the customs industry.

In an interview with T21, Nashielly Escobedo , general director of CLAA, shared her vision on the evolution of the customs agent in Mexico, highlighting the importance of updating its regulatory framework to allow a corporate operation instead of depending exclusively on an individual patent.

“We believe that customs agents should operate under a different regulatory framework, in which the structure is more corporate and efficient,” Escobedo explained.

He pointed out that one of the CLAA’s objectives is to develop proposals that promote greater efficiency in the movement of cargo , integrating new technologies and innovative models to strengthen the role of the customs agent in an increasingly demanding environment.

During the event, Escobedo also expressed his gratitude to the CLAA team, the driving force behind the service they offer.

“I have seen this confederation emerge and grow thanks to the collective effort of each collaborator,” he said.

For his part, Luis Silva , founding partner of CLAA, recalled the initial challenges and celebrated the growth they have achieved.

“We were five, now we are 60. Today, 20 years later, we are opening our new offices,” he said.

Fernando Ramos , founding partner, highlighted how in the first years they faced great difficulties, but managed to become a reference.

“The CLAA is a team that never leaves an issue unresolved. Today we are a small group, but with a great impact on the industry,” he said.

Finally, Felipe Miguel , also a founding member, thanked the members and associations for their commitment to the organization.

“Your presence here today is a way of making us feel that this dream has come true,” he said, stressing that CLAA remains committed to “always doing things right and in compliance with the law.”
