From the days when a young entrepreneur transported ice bars for a local brewery, to becoming a key player in vehicle and cargo transportation in Mexico , Transportes Cuauhtémoc has come a long way in the sector. 

Founded in 1953, the history of this company began with Rogelio Elizondo, a young man who entered the world of trucking with ice bars and later became a distributor of its products. 

In this way and with a vision of growth, Transportes Cuauhtémoc was founded (member of the Top 100 of Auto Transport® ) , consolidating its fleet and expanding its reach.  

Over time, his efforts resulted in a solid company, which allowed him to hand over management to his children María Magdalena, Gerardo, Jesús and Berta Eugenia in the late 1970s.  

Under the leadership of Gerardo Elizondo, the company further expanded and diversified its operations.  

The company has transformed in step with the industry and today, under the direction of the third family generation, faces new challenges and opportunities . 

The growth of the industry over 70 years and market demand led the company to become what it is today.  

“We have transported beer, containers, flat glass, we work with general cargo using containers. We have worked with many types of services. Our mission is to provide transportation services,” Jaime Leal Elizondo, Administrative Director of Transportes Cuauhtémoc, told T21. 

Currently, Transportes Cuauhtémoc operates a fleet of approximately 400 units, with a presence in the main ports of the country, including Lázaro Cárdenas, Veracruz, Mazatlán and Altamira.  

“Our main terminal is in Apodaca, and we have terminals in Aguascalientes, Veracruz and Cuernavaca,” explained Leal Elizondo. 

One of the company’s main projects is the complete renewal of its fleet over the next 24 months, in order to reduce maintenance times, improve efficiency and contribute to the environment.  

The implementation of environmental standards and the desire for innovation have driven the company to opt for more modern and sustainable units. 

Adaptation to regulations is also on the agenda. Recently, the obligation to have beacons on transport units was established, which implies the visible identification of vehicles on the road. 

“We are already working on it, we want to be in full compliance and collaborate with the authorities,” said Leal Elizondo. 

Another major challenge is road safety . Transportes Cuauhtémoc works in coordination with the National Guard and participates in joint operations to mitigate risks. In addition, it has incorporated technologies such as cameras and monitoring systems to strengthen the safety of its operators and merchandise. 

The human factor as a priority 

Beyond modernization, the company maintains its commitment to its operators.  

“A quality human resource, an operator who is technically trained, who is prepared both in terms of safety and to handle the highly specialized load that he has to handle,” said Leal Elizondo. 

He said that the training of drivers, especially in the automotive sector , is a priority to ensure the quality and safety of the service. 

With seven decades of history, Transportes Cuauhtémoc continues to write its path in the Mexican logistics sector. Faced with the challenges of the future, the company is committed to renewal, technology and commitment to its team and customers.
