Based on figures from the  Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) , between January and May 2026 , 2,255 cargo truck robberies were recorded, which represented a decrease of 17% compared to the 2,707 cases reported in the same period of 2025.

The tool emerged from situations that operators and companies report repeatedly , but which in many cases are not formally reported .

The director noted that authorities frequently request complaints in order to take action; however, many victims prefer not to file reports for fear of retaliation or due to distrust in the processes.

“If there are no complaints, I can’t offer you any kind of support because we don’t have that information,” Sánchez Porras commented, referring to one of the main challenges in assessing the scope of the problems facing the sector.

In response to this situation, Canacar Protege emerged, a tool available on its portal that allows complaints to be filed confidentially without requesting personal data from the complainant.

Augusto Ramos Melo, national president of Canacar, explained that the system is part of the organization’s strategy to strengthen the defense of the rights of carriers and generate information that allows the identification of risk patterns on the country’s highways .

“This mechanism was created to ensure that the operator, the carrier, or the company does not feel vulnerable to retaliation when filing a complaint,” Ramos explained.

Unlike a conventional complaint, the system was designed to protect the identity of the person reporting the incident. The platform only requests information related to the reported events, without requiring personal data.

According to Sánchez Porras, the cases will be referred to the appropriate authorities depending on their nature. In cases involving potential acts of corruption, the information may be sent to internal control bodies; while incidents with potential criminal implications may be referred to the competent prosecutorial authorities.

The platform is also part of the institutional modernization strategy promoted by the current administration of Canacar, which includes a greater generation of statistics and its own information systems to support the proposals and positions of the organization before federal authorities.

The tool is aimed at carriers affiliated with Canacar. Sánchez Porras indicated that the data generated through the platform will allow for a more precise understanding of the problems faced by its members on the road.

In his report on his first 100 days as head of Canacar, published on June 17, Augusto Ramos stated that the organization handled over a thousand calls through its support and assistance mechanisms, 45% of which were related to state, federal, or municipal traffic stops. An additional 342 incidents related to theft were also reported; of these, 59 resulted in the recovery of stolen vehicles.

The College of Civil Engineers of Mexico (CICM) considered that the next federal administration, which will be headed by Claudia Sheinbaum, president-elect, will have environmental protection, planning, transparency and accountability as infrastructure challenges .

Reyes Juárez del Ángel, vice president of Planning and Prospective of the organization, explained that it can be expected that the construction for the following years will be through a more environmentally friendly model due to the academic and historical training of the president-elect.

“In Mexico, this new administration led by the president-elect, committed to environmental issues, faces the challenge of overcoming these barriers, transparency and accountability will be crucial to ensure that infrastructure projects are not compromised by corruption, In addition, the training of the president-elect in environmental issues can help design projects that are not only functional and efficient, but also sustainable and resistant to interference,” he said.

He recalled that Sheinbaum made significant promises in infrastructure such as the construction of new roads, logistics nodes, the development of passenger trains, the creation of welfare development poles in other stages, to mention a few.

However, he made it clear that the relationship between electoral results and infrastructure development is not always direct, although promises can generate votes, the effective implementation of projects can be a herculean task due to political interference , that is, to the actions and decisions of political sectors that hinder or manipulate the development process, such as bureaucratic complexities, corruption and budget limitations for projects.

During the Balance of the elections conference on June 2. Perspectives for the development of infrastructure, he commented that in the face of this historic change in Mexico they hope that the CICM can have “special” participation to try to build a shield, so that the infrastructure processes are carried out in a more orderly manner to “rescue several of the issues that have been broken in the immediate past”, such as institutionality, that allow us to rescue the planning that has been subject to political interests.

Likewise, the organization will create a citizen body that will serve as a counterweight and support government decisions, and will also insist on the creation of a National Infrastructure Agency that will help reestablish the capacities “that have been lost in terms of governance and preparation of “good projects.”

Meanwhile, Roberto Duque Roquero, an academic at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and specialist in electoral law, said that there is a possibility that the next six-year term will be a “time of interesting public policies that have to do with infrastructure.”
