<p><strong><span dir="auto">The production value of the construction sector in Mexico fell 5.6% year-on-year in December 2025</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , according to information from the </span><a href="https://www.inegi.org.mx/"><span dir="auto">National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)</span></a><span dir="auto"> released this Tuesday</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to the National Survey of Construction Companies (ENEC), the number of </span><strong><span dir="auto">people employed</span></strong><span dir="auto"> decreased by 3.9% in the last month of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Hours </span><strong><span dir="auto">worked</span></strong><span dir="auto"> also declined year-on-year, falling by 4.6 percent. Conversely, </span><strong><span dir="auto">average real wages</span></strong><span dir="auto"> increased by 3.1 percent annually.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In its monthly comparison, the value of production by construction companies showed a positive performance, registering an increase of 1.7% in December 2025. The number of people employed remained unchanged.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In the last month of last year, hours worked in the construction sector fell 0.6% month-on-month, while wages fell 0.2% month-on-month.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">By state, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">State of Mexico</span></strong><span dir="auto"> showed the largest annual growth in production value, with an increase of 45.5 percent. Conversely,  </span><strong><span dir="auto">Oaxaca</span></strong><span dir="auto">  registered the largest contraction, with a year-on-year decline of 73%.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">Nayarit</span></strong><span dir="auto">  showed a positive change in employment, with an increase of 25.6 percent. Meanwhile, </span><strong><span dir="auto">Michoacán</span></strong><span dir="auto"> experienced the largest decrease, with a 33.6 percent drop in construction employment year-on-year.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Despite the mixed performance of the construction sector on an annual and monthly basis in December 2025, this industry is positioned as an engine for economic growth and employment in Mexico for 2026, derived from the </span><strong><span dir="auto">Mexico Plan</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , especially due to the </span><strong><span dir="auto">14 Economic Development Poles for Well-being</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which will promote the construction of industrial parks in several states of the country such as Hidalgo, Michoacán and Guanajuato, among others.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to specialists, the construction of a new home generates more than eight jobs and mobilizes several sectors of the supply chain, such as cement, steel and glass.</span></p>
