In the second quarter of 2026 (2Q26), Fomento Económico Mexicano (FEMSA) obtained revenues of 231 billion 002 million pesos (mdp) , which meant an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period in 2025, driven by growth in Coca-Cola FEMSA, OXXO Mexico, Americas and Mobility, and Health, partially offset by a decrease in Europe.

“During the second quarter, we achieved solid results, reflecting encouraging performance at OXXO Mexico and sustained momentum in many of our retail operations , while Coca-Cola FEMSA navigated a still challenging environment caused by weak consumer demand and increases in excise taxes in Mexico, which was more than offset by strong performances in South America,” said Jose Antonio Fernández Garza-Lagüera, CEO of FEMSA.

According to its operational and financial results report, the company detailed that its operating cash flow (EBITDA) was 33,340 million pesos , an increase of 12.7% compared to the figure for the same period last year.

Meanwhile, gross profit in Q2 2026 was 92,611 million pesos , 7.8% higher than in the second quarter of 2025 (Q2 2025).

“The gross margin would have contracted by 20 basis points, from a base of 40.3% for the second quarter of 2025. On a like-for-like basis, which considers currency effects and the consolidation of OXXO Brazil, gross profit increased by 8.8%,” the firm explained.

During the period, FEMSA’s operating profit totaled 19,110 million pesos , an increase of 7.2% compared to Q2 2025, driven by growth in Coca-Cola FEMSA and OXXO Mexico, “partially offset by decreases in Americas and Mobility, Europe, and Health.”

OXXO Mexico’s total revenue grew 11.8% and operating profit increased 12.3% compared to Q2 2025. Meanwhile, Spin by OXXO had 11.5 million active users, a 22.1% increase compared to the second quarter of last year.

“It’s worth highlighting OXXO Mexico’s quarter, which achieved double-digit revenue and profit growth and, importantly, a return to positive growth in customer traffic after several quarters of decline. While the World Cup made a positive contribution during the quarter, we believe there was an additional boost resulting from better execution across the country of commercial initiatives focused on key categories to increase traffic,” the executive emphasized.

Coca-Cola FEMSA’s total revenue increased 4.7% and operating profit rose 9.1% year-on-year.

“Revenues were driven by growth in Coca-Cola FEMSA, OXXO Mexico, Americas and Mobility, and Health, partially offset by a decline in Europe. Revenues reflected a net negative foreign exchange effect due to the appreciation of the Mexican peso against other currencies; as a result, revenues grew 9.3% on a like-for-like basis,” the company stated in its report.

FEMSA’s gross profit was 176.666 billion pesos, representing a 7.3% increase compared to the same period last year. In its earnings report, the company indicated that its operating profit was 33.421 billion pesos in the first six months of 2026, a 6.5% year-over-year increase, driven by growth at Coca-Cola FEMSA and OXXO Mexico. EBITDA was 61.455 billion pesos, a 12.1% increase compared to the first half of 2025.

In an interview with Grupo T21, Juan Pablo Velasco, the company’s Marketing and Commercial Capabilities Director, pointed out that omnichannel seeks to integrate technology with traditional physical execution to enhance the value delivered to the customer .

“By omnichannel, we mean definitely using all the data, technology, artificial intelligence, and digital tools we’ve been developing, but to empower the physical side, that is, our true strength (…) Our value proposition is fulfilled when the product physically reaches the customer. That’s where we’re delivering on our promise,” he said.

Velasco shared that digitization only makes sense when it solves real customer needs and facilitates the work of those operating in the market . He also noted that the company’s approach moves away from cold automation to focus on a service platform that supports the growth of small businesses.

“The platform vision becomes a success when we put the customer at the center. As we continue to understand our customers, truly putting them at the center to address pain points and opportunities, we believe this platform can continue to deliver many successes and much growth. We believe it can also become a service platform,” he said.

Vision for the Future: To enhance the platform

The main challenge for the organization lies in communicating in the best way that technology is meant to empower people , such as shopkeepers and pre-salespeople, and not to replace them.

Looking ahead, Coca-Cola FEMSA projects that its digital platform will evolve beyond basic transactions to become a comprehensive service ecosystem. Regarding the path forward, Velasco concluded that the platform is constantly being improved and that efforts will be made to refine its value propositions .

“We believe the platform has the potential to continue growing, to further refine our value propositions, and to expand our service level beyond transactions to include value-added services and additional services for our clients. For example, more detailed order tracking, asset tracking, and things like that. We believe it can also become a service platform,” he concluded.

Likewise, Juan Pablo de Velasco, the company’s Marketing and Commercial Capacity Director, pointed out that the success of this transformation also lies in the fact that digitalization is not an end in itself, but the means to empower its sales force , and reiterated putting the customer at the center of the process.

Mexican logistics rests on a foundation that is rarely seen: unpaid work and the role of women in the economy . In this sense, the sector is beginning to rethink its own structures at a time when talent shortages, turnover, and insecurity are putting pressure on the trucking industry.

In this context, the inclusion of women in the trucking industry emerges as an operational necessity. Currently, 46% of women in Mexico are employed or seeking employment, but only 6% hold management positions and 55% work in the informal sector, according to José Mucio Jiménez Orozco, Operations Manager for Western Mexico and Primary Distribution at Coca-Cola FEMSA , speaking at The Logistics World Summit & Expo.

He pointed out that these conditions not only reflect inequality, but also a missed opportunity for the logistics sector .

José Mucio Jiménez commented that the challenge is evident in the freight transport sector. Despite women representing 52% of the population in Mexico, their presence in this industry is limited: only 13.8% of the workforce is female, and there are barely seven thousand federal licenses for female drivers, compared to more than 700,000 for men .

This low participation occurs in an environment facing structural problems: high operator turnover, an aging workforce, and increasing competition for talent, including from the United States, which has attracted Mexican operators.

Given this situation, integrating more women not only expands the available talent pool but also brings operational improvements . According to shared experience, female operators exhibit lower accident rates, greater fuel efficiency, and a high level of commitment to route execution.

Inclusion , however, does not happen automatically. It requires structural changes within companies: from infrastructure improvements, such as bathrooms, changing rooms, showers, and dormitories, to the redesign of recruitment, training, and operational processes .

“We can say that we are going to hire more women, but if we don’t have the right conditions, the model doesn’t work,” Jiménez pointed out.

One of the concrete efforts to advance along this path is the Juntas en la Ruta (Together on the Road) program , developed by Coca-Cola in 2024 , to train professional female truck drivers. From more than 200 applicants, 10 were selected for the first cohort, which underwent a six-week theoretical and practical training program.

These types of initiatives not only aim to provide training , but also to break down paradigms in an industry historically dominated by men. In fact, the perception that women cannot operate heavy equipment has begun to fade in light of tangible results in safety, productivity, and performance.

In addition, complementary actions have been promoted such as safe rest stops with adequate infrastructure for women , road safety certification programs and alliances with actors in the sector to professionalize female talent.

Even so, the challenge remains significant . Globally, less than 3% of trucking operators are women, while in logistics they represent between 20% and 25% of the workforce, primarily in administrative roles.

The transition to more inclusive logistics is not solely driven by diversity goals, but also by the need to strengthen a key industry for the economy. In Mexico, sectors such as manufacturing, commerce, and agriculture depend directly on transportation, making it a cross-cutting pillar of development.

“Inclusion is not just a goal, it is the path to building a stronger, more diverse and sustainable industry,” the executive concluded.

With this, the participation of women in road transport is beginning to emerge as a strategic piece in the transformation of the sector, at a time when every talent counts.

During a demonstration session, Marco Ávila, Director of Transportation at Coca-Cola FEMSA, explained that the company has operational simulators , which they use to travel to all the bases in the country until the training of each assigned operator is complete.

The model includes small groups of eight operators per day , allowing for personalized sessions focused on key safety maneuvers: braking, speed control, operation on downhill slopes, and proper use of the engine brake.

The company certifies its operators once a year , which represents about 1,500 trained operators annually .

The simulator also offers evaluation tools. Each operational base tracks the operator’s subsequent performance based on this information.

One of the most recurring issues during training sessions is speeding. Although the company’s vehicles are regulated to 80 kilometers per hour (km/h), the manager emphasized that the goal is for drivers to understand why maintaining lower speeds is safer.

At the close of the session, Ávila reiterated that the commitment to simulation technology aims to train operators who respond technically, not intuitively, to adverse conditions .

“The reason we invest in training is because we believe in discipline, effort, and perseverance. We want them to face difficult situations in a safe environment so that, when they reach the real world, they can make decisions based on skills they have already developed,” he emphasized.

SAN JUAN DEL RÍO, QRO.– On Mexican roads, safety no longer depends solely on the operator. In recent years, technology has become a silent co-pilot that alerts, corrects and predicts risks before they occur, as explained by transporters, suppliers and manufacturers during the 9th National Road Safety Congress of the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) , when presenting the innovations that today transform the operation of cargo transportation.

Ninety percent of accidents are related to human error. Therefore, Transportes Azteca relies on artificial intelligence-based systems that detect distractions, fatigue, or lane departures, in addition to automated transmissions that reduce the driver’s decision-making burden, explained Aldo Daniel Osuna, representing Transportes Azteca.

“Every technological advance is an opportunity to save a life,” Osuna said.

Along the same lines, Coca-Cola FEMSA explained how the use of simulators and indoor and outdoor cameras has strengthened the training of its personnel.

“The operator is the central axis, which is why we look for tools that make their work easier and safer,” said Sebastián Cerón, Primary Processes and Distribution Manager, highlighting that the company’s strategy combines trained talent, digitalization, and technological support .

The innovation contribution came from Motum , which develops integrated solutions for fatigue monitoring, fuel management, safety alerts, and even laboratory-tested engine shutdowns.

“The key is for artificial intelligence to help make decisions in real time and for everything to be integrated into a single ecosystem,” emphasized Carlos Cota, VP of Revenue at TecnoMotum, underscoring the need for these tools to respond to the reality of Mexican roads.

For its part, Kenworth has made it clear that safety is one of its design pillars. Its models include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, and digital rearview cameras.

“Our commitment is to ensure that operators understand and make the most of these technologies,” said Gerardo Vega, the company’s Product Planner.

Daimler Truck Mexico demonstrated the potential of artificial intelligence to simplify processes for operators and monitors.

“AI doesn’t replace humans, it empowers them to make better decisions and prevent accidents,” said Itzel Alpízar, manager of Connectivity and Electric Mobility Strategy at Daimler Truck Mexico, when presenting the Detroit Assurance 5.0 suite, integrated into Freightliner tractor trucks and capable of detecting fatigue, issuing intelligent alerts and centralizing critical information.

At Volkswagen Truck & Bus , product engineer Jaime Cano emphasized that artificial intelligence is no longer a science fiction dream, but a reality. He said the brand’s vehicles integrate traffic sign detection, hill start assist, blind spot radars, and automatic speed adjustment systems.

In addition, the company is advancing autonomous transportation projects in Europe that set the tone for the future, according to Cano.

Isuzu Mexico ‘s turn was marked by the presentation of its new cabin, designed with ergonomic and safety in mind. Its innovations included impact absorption systems, speed alarms, and a rearview camera.

“We want every trip to be safe and comfortable, because the operator spends a large part of his or her life in the truck,” said Víctor Flores, Isuzu Product Planning Manager.

Finally, International emphasized preventive and reactive safety : from tire pressure monitoring to anticipate failures to systems that allow for automatic response to an incident.

“Prevention is key to avoiding road risks,” said Marcel do Prado, Business Support Director of International Mexico.

The common thread running through all the presentations was the premise that road safety is no longer limited to training operators or improving infrastructure. Today, technology—from sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence—is positioned as an indispensable ally in protecting lives and addressing the challenges of Mexican roads.

Being sleepy or sleeping inadequately , he warned, not only deteriorates health, it also opens the door to harmful practices such as substance use to stay awake.

“We have a sick industry, unfortunately,” said Monroy during the 9th National Road Safety Congress , organized by the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) .

He explained that, to avoid situations resulting from operator sleep deprivation , TMS has restricted unnecessary nighttime trips by more than 85%, in addition to relying on technology to stop operators in time and give them a chance to sleep.

The magnitude of the problem became evident when recalling that in 2024, 374,949 traffic accidents were recorded in urban and suburban areas, with a balance of 4,666 fatalities and 85,985 injured people, according to data presented by Marcelo Casillas, moderator of the panel and representative of La Corona Soap Factory .

He said that more than 70% of these accidents are directly linked to the operator’s condition, primarily due to fatigue.

Regarding the medical perspective on this issue, Lizbeth Garduño Estrada, Primary Distribution Health and Wellness Coordinator at Coca-Cola FEMSA , noted that the circadian cycle (a natural process that influences sleep) should be the basis for any travel planning.

Based on his experience, he emphasized that interrupting nighttime rest has immediate effects on operators’ alertness and reaction time. To prevent risks, Coca-Cola FEMSA implements cognitive fatigue tests (PBT), similar to those used on Formula 1 drivers, capable of measuring reaction times and determining whether an operator is fit to operate.

With these protocols, the company estimates a 25% to 35% reduction in workplace and road accidents. “Today we monitor the truck with GPS, but what about the person?” he asked.

Technology was the central theme of Claudia Sánchez, Account Executive at Samsara , who emphasized that her role is not just to monitor, but to support. “Operators are heroes without capes who risk their lives every day to keep us on the table,” she stated.

From this perspective, Samsara seeks to provide real-time visibility into what’s happening behind the wheel: driving time, signs of fatigue, lane departures, or alerts that enable immediate decision-making.

The goal, he explained, is to reduce the administrative burden, structure more effective training, and, above all, ensure operators feel supported by tools that protect their safety and that of their families.

The debate made it clear that Standard 087 (NOM-087-SCT-2-2017, which regulates the hours of service and rest for federal truck drivers in Mexico) is just the starting point.

Raúl Monroy acknowledged that compliance also depends on customers and merchandise owners, who must respect loading and unloading schedules so as not to put undue pressure on operators.

“This isn’t just an industrial issue; it’s a social issue. The more operators are aware of road safety, the safer our families’ transportation will be,” he emphasized.

For her part, Lizbeth Garduño stated that self-care and medical empathy are key to breaking the monotony and detecting problems early, from addictions to chronic conditions.

“If an operator has a financial or family problem behind the wheel, it also affects their performance,” he noted.

Claudia Sánchez emphasized that technology can be the bridge that connects all actors in the chain—doctors, businesses, and transporters—to design safe travel plans , reduce risks, and improve the quality of life for those who travel the country’s roads.

The panel concluded with a consensus: integrating health, transportation, and technology is not optional; it’s the only way for operators to operate safely, and for compliance with operating hours to translate into fewer accidents and more safe lives on the road.
