The heavy vehicle market appeared to offer a slight respite in April 2026, with monthly sales managing to grow in some segments. This performance was not enough to alter the year-to-date figures, which maintain a negative trend, particularly in tractor-trailers and long-distance buses, two of the most significant categories within the industry.

According to the most recent statistical bulletin of the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor-Trailer Producers (ANPACT) , wholesale sales reached 2,323 units in April 2026, a growth of 20.1% compared to the 1,934 sold in the same month of the previous year.

In cumulative figures from January to April, sales total 8,708 units, a decrease of 10.1% compared to the same period in 2025.

The cargo segment was the main driver of the monthly result. In April, it sold 1,960 units wholesale, a 20% year-over-year increase. Within this segment , Class 8 stood out with 32% growth, as did Classes 4 and 5 , which advanced 72.5% and 126.4%, respectively.

Overall , pressure continues to be felt in some of the most important categories for the trucking industry. Fifth-wheel tractor-trailers have seen a 37.5% drop in the January-April period, falling from 5,163 units in 2025 to 3,229 in 2026.

In retail , 2,715 units were sold in April, a decrease of 5.6% compared to the same month in 2025. The year-to-date figure reflects a more pronounced drop of 29.1%, with 9,845 units sold between January and April 2026 .

Within the retail sector, freight remained virtually unchanged in April , with slight growth of 1.3%. Class 8 trucks advanced 47.7%, although fifth-wheel tractors declined 21.8%, maintaining pressure on the market.

In contrast, the passenger segment saw a significant drop in retail sales during April, with a decrease of 36.2%. Intercity buses declined by 52.3%, while Class 8 buses fell by 89.5%.

Although April showed a partial recovery compared to previous months, the accumulated balance confirms that the heavy vehicle market is still going through an adjustment stage, especially in the segments linked to long-distance transport and foreign passenger transport.

Amidst art pieces and conversations about performance reviews, market share and profitability, the PACCAR Mexico network first toured the rooms of the Soumaya Museum.

Art served as the backdrop before the discussion of figures. Later, the cocktail reception allowed executives to exchange impressions about a demanding year; dinner concluded the prelude to the awards ceremony.

The biggest distinction came at the end, as it should. Kenworth DAF Trucks of Monterrey was named Dealer of the Year 2025 , an award that cannot be explained by a single indicator, but by the disciplined sum of all of them: sustained profitability, consistent commercial execution, rigorous financial control, and well-structured investment plans.

During the ceremony, it was explained that this award is given based on “comprehensive performance, a solid and disciplined approach to business, smart and well-established investment plans, meticulous attention to detail, and constant monitoring of financial indicators that guarantee operational excellence,” according to Alejandro Novoa, CEO of PACCAR Mexico.

The shortlist for Dealer of the Year 2025 consisted of:

Before the main recognition, the network broke down the 2025 results into three blocks that reflect the structure of the business.

First, the historical records: dealerships that surpassed their own highs in sales of spare parts, labor and Class 8 units, confirming that leadership is also measured in operational consistency.

Beyond the main recognition, the ceremony broke down the network’s performance on each strategic front of the business , highlighting the operational depth achieved in 2025.

The sales behavior of heavy vehicles in 2025 reveals a pattern of prolonged contraction . In the case of tractor-trailers , the market began the year with 1,668 wholesale units , but volumes decreased month by month until closing September with 854 units , that is, almost half of what was recorded at the beginning of 2025.

In Class 8 , the trend was similar. Sales fell from 525 units in January to 402 in September , confirming the loss of momentum in the most important segments of the trucking industry.

The trend was similar in the retail sector. Tractor truck sales increased from 1,966 units in January to 1,309 in September , while Class 8 sales decreased from 1,011 to 586 .

The deterioration began to become visible in April and, despite slight intermediate increases, the market has not been able to recover its previous pace , according to historical statistical reports from the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT) .

Sustained decline in the heaviest segments

In September 2025, wholesale sales totaled 2,481 units , representing a 53.8% decrease compared to the same month last year. Retail sales decreased by 32.4% , with 3,323 units sold .

The Class 8 and fifth-wheel tractor segments concentrated the impact with drops of 70.5% and 65.6% , respectively.

From January to September, wholesale sales (cargo and passenger) totaled 21,132 units , a 52.3% decrease compared to 2024; retail sales reached 30,008 units, a 27.6% decrease .

The share of tractor-trailers in total freight fell from 73.9% in January to 43.4% in September , while Class 8 fell from 23.8% to 20.4% , confirming the loss of strength of these segments that historically drive fleet renewal.

ANPACT figures show more than just a temporary decline: the pace of trucking has slowed and has yet to recover. Each month without a rebound lengthens a lull that is already shaping the course of the heavy vehicle sector in Mexico.

During September 2025, two thousand 481 cargo and passenger units were sold wholesale , which represents a decrease of 53.8% compared to the same month last year, when five thousand 369 vehicles were sold, according to the statistical report of the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Truck Producers (ANPACT).

The negative performance was concentrated in the cargo segments , particularly in Class 8 , with a 70.5% drop , and in fifth-wheel tractors , where sales fell 65.6% . Overall, cargo units totaled 1,969 vehicles , representing a 55.9% drop compared to September 2024.

In the January-September period , wholesale sales registered 21,132 units , 52.3% lower than the 44,318 in 2024. In this period, total cargo sales totaled 17,802 units , a decrease of 52.8% , and passengers reached 3,330 units , 49.8% less than the previous year.

Retail also reflects slowdown

In the retail sector, the figures followed the same trend. During September, 3,323 vehicles were sold , a 32.4% decrease compared to the 4,914 sold in the same month last year.

In the case of passenger buses , the decline was 25.3% , with 644 units sold. Classes 5 and 6 grew slightly, 239.1% , but this result did not offset the declines in Class 8 (–61.4%) or intercity buses, which fell by 19.5%.

In the January-September cumulative period , retail sales totaled 30,008 units , 27.6% less than in 2024. By type, cargo sales totaled 24,932 units , a reduction of 28.2% , and passenger sales reached 5,076 units , a decrease of 24.4 percent .

The September figures confirm the negative trend observed in previous months, with widespread declines in the most important market segments.

In both wholesale and retail, the Class 8 and tractor-trailer segments , which account for the bulk of production and sales, remain in negative territory, reflecting a sustained market slowdown and slower fleet renewal in the Mexican trucking industry.

El cargo Heavy vehicle sales continue to decline: ANPACT apareció primero en T21.

The wholesale sale of heavy vehicles reports a constant increase, as reflected in the latest statistical report of the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT) , which announces that the sale of cargo vehicles increased 34.3% during August 2024 compared to the same month last year .

Thus, in the reference month, 5,543 heavy vehicles were sold, a total of 1,417 more units than in 2023. During the eighth month of the year, the segment that represented the greatest dynamism was Class 5 with an increase of 64.8%, going from 71 units to 117 vehicles in the current year.

Wholesale sales are deliveries made by plants and original equipment manufacturers to the distributor network.

In terms of volume, the fifth-wheel tractor segment sold 3,126 units, which represented an increase of 56.4% compared to the 1,999 vehicles sold in August of last year.

Class 8 ranked third in terms of development with a 20.6% growth, selling 1,529 vehicles , a total of 261 more units compared to the eighth month of last year. Class 4 also experienced a slight increase of 0.3% with the sale of 355 vehicles, one more unit than in 2023.

Class 7 vehicles , on the other hand, decreased by 24.1%, going from 29 units in the eighth month of 2024 to 22 in the same month last year. Finally, the Class 6 subsegment reported a decline of 2.7% with 394 vehicles, 11 units less than last year.

It is important to note that the NOM-044 diesel engine emissions update is scheduled for January 2025, so only the Euro 6 / EPA-10 binomial will be in force, so wholesale sales are a reflection of the adjustment expected in the market from the distributor network, to have the largest possible volume of units that can still incorporate the Euro 5 / EPA-07 binomial.

In turn, in the cumulative period from January to August 2024, wholesale sales of heavy vehicles totaled 33,209 units . This figure revealed an advance in sales in the domestic market of 13.2%, compared to the 29,326 vehicles sold in the same period last year.

In the period referred to, the subsegment that represented the greatest growth was fifth-wheel tractors with a 23.4% increase in sales, totaling 18,722 units, 3,550 units more than the same period of the previous year.

The second subsegment that reported progress was class 7 with 278 units sold, which meant an increase of 16.8% compared to 2023 when 238 vehicles were sold. For its part, class 8 advanced 6.9% by selling 8,837 units, a total of 567 more than in August 2024.

In contrast, Class 5 reported the largest contraction in August 2024 with 23.5% fewer sales than the eighth month of last year, with a total of 168 fewer vehicles, going from 716 in 2023 to 548 in 2024.

In turn, in class 4, 2,410 vehicles were sold, a decrease of 3.8% compared to last year. Finally, class 6 reported wholesale sales of 2,414 vehicles, 0.4% less than from January to August 2023 .

Retail sales at a different speed

According to ANPACT data, retail sales, i.e. sales from distributors to end customers, showed a different dynamic. In August, retail sales totaled 4,531 units, which represented an increase of 10% compared to the same month in 2023.

Tractor trucks , the vehicle class that contributed the most in volume, reached a sales of 2,341 units , an increase of 5.7% compared to the comparison period. Class 8 , meanwhile, showed a different dynamic, totaling 1,340 vehicles , which represents 25.1% more than in 2023.

In accumulated sales in 2024, the retail cargo sector reached 30,662 vehicles, which represented 9% above the January-August 2023 cycle.

Tractor-trailer sales total 16,450 vehicles, 9.2% more than in 2023; while Class 8 displaced 8,208 trucks, 11.2% above the comparative cycle.

Retail sales have not yet shown the pre-purchase effect referred to by the presence of NOM-044 in January 2025, which could be seen in the coming months.
