In a statement, the company announced that the arrival of Klaus von Moltke represents a new boost for the production of the BMW iX3, a model of the NEUE KLASSE platform , which will be manufactured in San Luis Potosí as part of its global electromobility strategy.

“At the BMW Group’s largest engine plant, I had the opportunity to supply the exceptional engines for the NEUE KLASSE. Now, I am extremely pleased to bring the NEUE KLASSE vehicles to the streets together with the extraordinary team at the San Luis Potosí plant. Despite the current challenging conditions, we will continue to write our company’s success story in the Americas,” emphasized Klaus von Moltke.

With more than 25 years of international experience, Klaus von Moltke is Senior Vice President for Engine Production at BMW AG and Director of the BMW Group plant in Steyr, Austria, and has held strategic positions in South Africa, the Netherlands and Germany.

The company highlighted that under Harald Gottsche’s leadership, production reached half a million units, and iconic models such as the BMW 2 Series Coupé and the BMW M2 were added to the lineup . Furthermore, the transition to the manufacture of electric vehicles and high-voltage batteries was accelerated, supported by an €800 million investment for expansion and the establishment of a Battery Module Production Center.

During the celebration of CLAA’s 20th anniversary , Ramos, who had already presided over the organization in its founding stage, expressed the deep personal and professional bond that unites him with the Confederation.

“For me, it’s a very deep feeling, because this Confederation is like my third child. I have a daughter, Fernanda, 30; Sebastián, 27; and CLAA, 20. I’m returning at a super complicated time in the life of the country, with a customs reform that is testing us, and with the tsunami of artificial intelligence and all the technological changes that we have to face at the same time,” he emphasized.

The incoming president indicated that one of the pillars that gave rise to CLAA was the commitment to ethics , professionalization and integrity , values ​​that will continue to be the compass of his administration.

“I invite all customs brokers to join CLAA—the good ones, the professionals, not those who rent licenses or engage in unfair competition. We take ethics and professionalism very seriously; that is why today we are a benchmark in foreign trade, with moral and technical authority built over two decades,” he emphasized.

Ramos also emphasized that, despite the increasing digitalization of the sector, “people remain at the heart of customs operations . “

For his part, John Willy Kolter , current president of the CLAA, warned that the recent reform to the Customs Law represents a risk to the role of the customs agent.

“This reform translates into ‘cannon fodder.’ Watch out, patent holders, because I’m coming to annihilate you. It seems this government intends to eliminate the role of the customs agent, but we cannot allow it. We will continue to defend our position,” he asserted.

Willy called for unity within the profession around legality and transparency, values ​​that, he affirmed, should guide any collective effort. “Only in this way can we change the mistaken image that many have of customs agents ,” he stressed.

He also thanked the union, his family, and CLAA for their support during his term, which is about to end.

With a proposal focused on institutional transformation, technological modernization, and the defense of the customs union, José Ignacio “Iñaki” Zaragoza was appointed as the new president of the Confederation of Associations of Customs Agents of the Mexican Republic (CAAAREM) .

Currently president of the Nuevo Laredo Customs Brokers Association and with over 15 years of experience in the sector, Zaragoza takes office with the support of various local associations and a clear vision of restoring strength to the associations, respect for the guild, and purpose to the confederation.

During his campaign, under the slogan ” Make CAAAREM Bigger ,” Zaragoza presented a platform with proposals focused on strengthening institutional representation, reducing centralized structures, restoring the role of the customs substitute, and applying artificial intelligence tools to combat undervaluation in foreign trade.

“The greatness of the Confederation is not measured in square meters, but in leadership, integrity, and service,” Zaragoza declared at one of the key meetings of his candidacy.

Its main lines of action include the development of algorithms to verify reference prices on platforms such as Alibaba, Amazon, and Temu; the creation of the “25-50” strategic document to assess the situation of the country’s 50 customs offices; and the strengthening of academic ties with universities such as ITAM to raise the educational level of the industry.

Zaragoza also emphasized the need to establish permanent working groups with authorities such as the Tax Administration Service (SAT) , the Mexican National Customs Agency (ANAM) , and the Ministry of Economy (SE) to achieve real co-responsibility among customs agents, importers, and agencies.

During his career, he has served three times as president of the Nogales Association and as vice president of operations for CAAAREM during the pandemic, a period in which he was recognized for his technical ability and leadership. He currently works alongside his brother, Ricardo Zaragoza, former president of the Confederation, and has been firm in his stance against the criminalization of the union.

Calling for unity and transparency, Iñaki Zaragoza takes office with a commitment to revitalizing the Confederation from the ground up: “No more unilateral decisions, no more disconnection. This is a presidency to serve, not to be served by it.”

Iñaki Zaragoza was elected at the 85th National Congress of Customs Agents , organized in Mexico City by CAAAREM. He replaces Miguel Cos Nesbitt, who completed his term as leader of the union (2023-2025).

In his inauguration address, he pledged to promote informed decision-making, professional development for members, and building a solid future for the industry.

During his tenure, he promoted a strategic agenda focused on training in foreign trade and logistics, as well as legal research and the promotion of initiatives to modernize customs.

“Without a doubt, these past few months have been a year of tremendous work, with significant contributions to the union, especially in matters of self-regulation. This signing of this agreement is historic, not only for us, but also for the sectors involved. It’s about seeking joint strategies that will allow us to close the door to those who seek to undermine us,” Cos Nesbitt said in an interview.

He added that this effort has been accompanied by very specific proposals presented to authorities such as the Ministry of Economy and the Mexican National Customs Agency (ANAM) to improve the regulatory framework and customs operations.

“We are fully committed to CAAAREM. I believe we are leaving with the satisfaction of a job well done,” he emphasized.

The elections to designate the new leader of CAAAREM will be held this Wednesday, and will be decided between the two candidates: Claudio Silva Herzog and Iñaki Zaragoza.
