According to the airline’s 2025-2030 Institutional Program , published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) , Mexicana also seeks to increase cargo transportation , going from 114.63 tons last year to 1,960.46 tons by 2030.

“In terms of cargo transportation, significant growth is expected, which will support Mexican companies in their export and import operations through the operation of a fleet of 20 aircraft,” he said.

Likewise, it will aim to transport 2,630,483 passengers by 2030 , a 594% increase compared to 2024, when it carried 379,123 passengers. It also aims to have a 71% occupancy rate by 2030, which represents an increase of approximately 45% compared to 2024.

“The airline’s commercial agreements are expected to generate 112,009 passengers by 2030,” the DOF stated.

The airline announced that by the end of the aforementioned period , it should have a 3.5% domestic stake , which represents an increase of approximately 468% compared to 2024.

This  will be achieved through the establishment of 11 strategies and 58 lines of action that will contribute to “turning the company into a driving force for development in Mexico’s air transport sector, facilitating the efficient transportation of people and goods. Its vision focuses on operational excellence, the geographic expansion of air routes, innovation, and sustainability, all with a focus on customer satisfaction.”

Projecting beyond the 2030 horizon requires a long-term vision that transcends administrative cycles and lays the foundation for sustained and sustainable development.

“The vision for the future is clear: by 2050, the airline will be one of the leaders in Mexico and one of the best in Latin America. It will be recognized for its service excellence, operational efficiency, and its drive toward air connectivity and mobility for the benefit of Mexicans,” he projected.

By 2050, Mexicana estimates it will be actively involved in key domestic and international destinations , enabling it to capitalize on growth and collaboration opportunities in the airline market by consolidating a fleet of 50 modern aircraft and a broad network of commercial routes connecting various strategic regions of the country.

Leonardo Gómez Vargas , the organization’s executive president, reaffirmed the sector’s responsibility for the development of the country’s economic activities, seeking to make self-regulation a preponderant and active axis of daily life, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Economy (SE) and the ANTP.

Andrea Solano , head of Regulation, Competitiveness and Competition at the SE, recognized the momentum generated by freight transport users , companies with their own fleets and companies that provide freight transport services and contribute to the country’s national and international logistics , based on solid pillars such as sustainability and safety.

Through its social media channels, the association emphasized that it supports the goals of the “Made in Mexico” program.

“We are thrilled to share that the transportation service that moves the country forward is ‘Made in Mexico,’ thus reaffirming our commitment to quality, competitiveness, and the country’s development,” the ANTP emphasized.

At the event, certificates were presented to various companies in the logistics sector, such as Estafeta , Autotransporte Azteca Plus, Safi Package Delivery Services, Translogística, Grupo Bimbo , Grupo Femsa , Fletes Hesa , among others, members of the ANTP, who also received the “Made in Mexico” distinction.

The “Made in Mexico” program is part of Plan Mexico and seeks to strengthen the domestic market , increase national content , and incorporate merchants, micro, small, medium, and large businesses into global value chains .

The distinction recognizes products manufactured and/or assembled in the country that meet high quality standards, prioritize inputs of national origin, and comply with one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , which highlights the commitment of companies and Mexico to the 2030 Agenda at a global level.

The Mexican trucking industry maintains a duality that has become structural: a highly fragmented business base , but with the vehicle fleet concentrated among a few players .

Based on records from the Federal Directorate of Motor Transport (DGAF) , the sector maintains a virtually unchanged structural composition. Of the companies comprising the country’s freight transport sector, 80% are micro , with fleets of one to five units , while large companies, with more than 100 vehicles, represent only 0.68% of the total .

However, fleet size continues to make a difference. Large companies account for 31% of the national vehicle fleet , small companies (six to 30 units) account for 29%, medium-sized companies (31 to 100) contribute 17%, and micro-enterprises, despite their numerical importance, only account for 22%.

A review of the DGAF figures shows that this structure remained virtually unchanged between January 2024 and July 2025. The total number of units increased from 1.33 million to 1.48 million , but the distribution by company size barely changed by a few tenths of a percentage point.

The figures also reveal that fleet renewal is concentrated in larger fleets , while the sector’s core—made up of thousands of micro and small businesses—operates with older vehicles and limited operating margins.

The average age of the fleet remains at 18.9 years (at the end of July 2025) , with slight monthly variations, confirming a slow pace of modernization .

Overall, the DGAF data show that the Mexican trucking sector remains a sector with many companies, but few with investment capacity .

Fleet size makes the difference between those who can renew, grow, and remain competitive in an increasingly demanding market.

Road safety has ceased to be an isolated issue and has become the focus of transportation technology strategies, according to Hugo Carmona, Country Manager of Digital Communications Technologies (DCT) in Mexico, who indicated that in-cabin video with Artificial Intelligence (AI) can reduce insurance costs and optimize fleet safety .

Carmona emphasized that technology applied to transportation translates into a preventive tool that allows companies to anticipate road risks. This, he said, aims to ensure that safety is incorporated into daily operations and not as an after-the-fact reaction to accidents.

During the 4th DCT –  Quálitas  Infinite Possibilities Conference , Tatiana Ardavín, Channel Sales Manager for Latam at Lytx , and Carlos Jaramillo, DCT Country Manager for USA, highlighted that innovation isn’t limited to installing cameras inside units. The key lies in integrating an ecosystem of data, processes, and operators , where machine learning can identify in-cabin behavior trends and generate reliable reports to prevent accidents.

One of the main challenges has been operator adoption. Jaramillo noted that at an expo in the United States, one operator compared the camera to having “a wife by your side watching you all day .” Over time, he added, operators understood that the device functions as a safety belt that supports them in the event of an incident, rather than as a tool for imposing penalties.

A case study was presented by Corporativo UNNE , a company dedicated to hydrocarbon transportation in Mexico, which incorporated more than 500 biotelematics cameras into its fleet . As part of the strategy, operators were encouraged to raise awareness from the installation stage, including messages and explanatory materials on the use of the technology.

According to the company, this implementation has helped reduce incidents related to cell phone use and design training plans based on risk reports . At the same time, customers are increasingly demanding evidence in the event of an accident, which has increased operational transparency.

In figures, UNNE monitors nearly two million kilometers per month and processes approximately 120,000 alerts per month , information that is used to adjust driving practices and strengthen road safety.

Specialists agreed that these types of solutions put freight transportation in Mexico on a path toward greater risk prevention and operational traceability , key factors for sensitive sectors such as hydrocarbons and for strengthening trust between companies and customers.

The story of Grupo RAMEbegins with a steering wheel and a dream . Its founder started as a local route operator and, after years of road experience, acquired his first tractor-trailer.

That step marked the beginning of a company that, over the years, would consolidate itself in Saltillo, Coahuila, as a benchmark in cargo transportation.

RAME’s growth stemmed from projects that required the addition of more than 100 federally licensed carriers. This support network allowed the company to transition from directly operating the units to focusing on service management and coordination.

“It was a major and important boost for Grupo RAME,” recalled Augusto Ramos, the company’s vice president.

The family spirit permeated the first years of operation. For a seven-year period, the company focused on serving the automotive sector with three-and-a-half-ton units that crossed into the United States and Canada , Ramos said.

On those routes, the company’s founder (his father), along with his mother, an uncle, and other operators, carried the loads directly, reflecting a 24/7 commitment that cemented RAME’s reputation, he explained.

Today, Grupo RAME has 185 units and three companies focused on federal public cargo transportation. Its specialty remains dry vans , which represent 80% of its operations, although it also offers flatbeds, curtainsiders, and lowboys .

Diversification has been key: around 35% of its activity remains in the automotive sector, while 60% is focused on imports and exports.

Ramos explained that, in addition to focusing on imports and exports , the company decided to strengthen its domestic market. “Returning to the domestic theme over the past two years has greatly helped us achieve strength and productivity,” he noted.

The group opened a transfer division in Laredo and Nuevo Laredo—border crossing service—as well as a “personnel transportation” area .

Additionally, its portfolio includes dry van management, warehouse and yard equipment rentals, and dedicated solutions for sectors requiring punctuality and constant monitoring.

The company also develops border crossings, transshipments, and direct integration schemes with client plants under the in-house model . These activities are complemented by 24/7 monitoring and door-to-door services, with the goal of ensuring continuity in the logistics chain , Ramos emphasized.

They also have vehicles ready to begin operations on the U.S. side, however, the project remains on hold while they wait for an economic recovery .

Regarding fleet renewal , 2024 was a year of caution, Ramos commented. Although the average age of vehicles is five years (an accepted standard in demanding sectors such as automotive and pharmaceutical), the company halted expansion and renewal investments to protect its finances.

“We know that we’ll weather this year of speculation without any problems, even with our clients,” Ramos explained.

These initiatives are accompanied by the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools that, far from replacing personnel, seek to support decision-making with more accurate information.

“We want our employees to feel at ease, to see technology as a support, not a threat,” he noted.

Beyond the numbers, the company’s essence remains tied to the values ​​that inspired its founding. The organizational culture maintains a sense of consistency: those who don’t share that vision eventually leave.

Alex Theissen Long ‘s journey didn’t begin in offices or high-level meetings. His story begins in a workshop: as a mechanic’s assistant, with diesel engines roaring around him and transmissions that required him to learn the hard way. Amidst the grease and tools, he discovered that it wasn’t a temporary job, but the beginning of a passion that would captivate him forever .

Over time, that young man from the workshop went on to direct preventive maintenance at the same company where he started, but this time to dictate policies and then to design vehicles and transmissions .

Although trained as an electrical mechanical engineer , his true learning came from the dual system that his father of German origin instilled in him: studying and working at the same time .

So, at 22, Alex asked for an internship where he could “see internal combustion,” never imagining that this desire would lead him to freight transport, a sector in which he has remained for more than 40 years .

His career has been a journey that combines the technical with the human . He went from dictating maintenance policies and vehicle design to influencing standards, procedures, and government relations.

Today, at the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) , where he serves as president of the Board of Directors, he leads with the same conviction: every day in transportation is different and requires character to face the unexpected.

But beyond the technical achievements, Alex says his greatest pride lies in the people . Having trained operators, mechanics, and executives who are now better professionals and better human beings is, for him, his true legacy.

In his words, the industry is not transformed only by technology, but by values ​​and passion passed down from generation to generation.

He carries that same spirit into his family life. With more than 35 years of marriage, two children, and the news that he’ll be a grandfather this September, he places family at the center of everything .

SAN JUAN DEL RÍO, QRO.- Road safety is not just a regulatory requirement, but a commitment to life, productivity, and competitiveness in Mexico. With this conviction, authorities, transporters, users, and specialists attended the opening of the 9th National Road Safety Congress , organized by the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP) .

During the event’s opening, Alex Theissen Long , president of the ANTP Board of Directors, emphasized that investing time and resources in road safety “saves lives” and, at the same time, makes the industry more efficient and productive.

He reminded everyone that operators are the backbone of the operation, and therefore deserve respect, training, and decent conditions.

“Road safety isn’t just a number from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) , it’s a family that remains united and a society that is moving forward more safely,” he emphasized.

Alberto Mendoza Díaz , general director of the Mexican Institute of Transportation (IMT) , noted that every action aimed at reducing road incidents means protecting operators and society as a whole.

He emphasized that security must be viewed as a strategic investment that strengthens confidence in the logistics chain and enables safer and more humane transportation.

Representing the National Guard , Rubén Torres Martínez , state coordinator of this corporation in Querétaro, highlighted that the main causes of accidents on federal highways are excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, distraction due to cell phone use, and fatigue.

He shared that, in Querétaro alone, 1,108 traffic accidents have been recorded so far this year , with 18 deaths and 73 vehicle thefts. During his participation, he also reported on the progress of the “Zero Thefts” operation implemented on the Mexico–Querétaro Highway, with vehicle recovery and arrests in coordination with transporters.

For her part,  Janet de Luna Jiménez , general director of Territorial Policy and Mobility of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) , emphasized that in Mexico mobility is a constitutional right, which obliges the State to guarantee road safety conditions.

He highlighted the importance of coordination between government levels and the private sector to implement the National Mobility Strategy and the General Mobility Law, recognizing freight transportation as a strategic element for the economy and equity.

Meanwhile, Luis Ruiz Hernández , head of the Federal Motor Transport Directorate (DGAF) , reiterated that road safety must be addressed with a comprehensive approach involving authorities, companies, and operators.

“The important thing is that we all get home safely; that’s the most important goal,” he said.

The opening of the congress highlighted that road safety is a shared responsibility. The combination of training, technology, self-regulation, and public policies will be key to achieving the goal of reducing accidents by 50% this decade.

In this context, Panacea introduced its fifth wheel sensor , a device designed to monitor the exact moment a box is attached to or detached from the tractor.

If the system detects a maneuver outside of authorized zones, it sends an immediate alert that can be integrated into tracking platforms such as Samsara , a partner of the company, according to Valente Vargas, manager of Telemetry and Security Solutions for Carriers at Panacea.

The device works as a safety add-on that does not require changing the existing GPS , making it easy to adopt.

According to the company, it is currently installed in more than 32,000 units , generating real-time data that can be cross-referenced with geofences—virtual areas defined by geographic coordinates—and internal protocols for faster response times.

The importance of this type of technology lies in the fact that a significant portion of cargo thefts involve trailer separation, a practice that occurs both on highways and in unguarded yards.

Stopping a truck to prevent it from crossing the state of Puebla at night has become part of the protocol because insecurity is no longer just a fact, it is a daily operational decision, as stated by representatives of Overhaul and the Mexican Intermodal Transport Association (AMTI) , during the presentation of the cargo theft report corresponding to the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25).

Highway robbery has had a direct impact on the shortage of operators. This was one of the main warnings expressed by Diego Anchustegui, president of AMTI, when explaining the situation facing the logistics sector in Mexico.

“We live it every day,” said Anchustegui, explaining that many fleets are currently operating at only 60% to 80% of their capacity due to a lack of personnel.

The crisis isn’t just about security. There are other equally serious problems, such as overcrowded infrastructure, poor roads, complex customs processes, lack of connectivity , and a fleet with an average age of 20 years .

“If the average fleet is 20 years old, we have 40- or 50-year-old trucks on the road,” he warned.

But rather than dwelling on the problems, Anchustegui proposed discussing solutions. In his view, technology, investment in infrastructure, and the promotion of intermodal transportation can bring about a fundamental change in the Mexican logistics system.

Intermodal transport (which combines different modes of transport such as rail, road transport, or sea) allows for the movement of goods in a more economical, safe, and sustainable manner.

According to the president of AMTI, it can be up to 25% or 30% cheaper than conventional trucking for distances greater than 500 kilometers (km). Furthermore, it has a theft rate of just 0.5% on several routes .

“What intermodal does is allow you to use rail without having to invest in infrastructure like a spur within your facilities,” he explained. He added that this modality makes it easy to use for any industry or type of merchandise.

In Mexico, this model is growing across three segments: maritime (connecting ports like Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Veracruz with the interior), crossborder (Mexico, the United States, and Canada), and domestic (within the country, on routes like Chihuahua-Monterrey or Baja California-Mexico City), he emphasized.

Railway safety: lower risk, but still with red flags

Although intermodal transport proves to be safer than road transport, train robberies still occur , especially when organized crime manages to stop trains at vulnerable points to open containers and steal merchandise. “It’s not like they used to be, when they opened them like bottle caps, but it still happens,” Anchustegui acknowledged.

The solution isn’t just about providing protection; it also involves measuring data , identifying the areas with the highest incidence, and working hand in hand with authorities.

“Many companies are investing in cameras; at first, it’s a challenge to introduce them to operators, but we’re moving in that direction, just as GPS systems did in the 2000s,” he noted.

One of the main benefits of intermodal is that it allows for better utilization of available carriers . Instead of assigning one carrier to a single long trip, such as Mexico–Tijuana, the intermodal model allows one carrier to make several short trips per day, he emphasized.

In addition, it has positive impacts on infrastructure, reduces highway congestion, and eases traffic congestion in regions like Querétaro and Tlaxcala, where travel times have doubled.

Anchustegui also highlighted the environmental value of the model, as rail can be up to 75% more environmentally friendly than trucking.

Projects such as the Maya Train and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Interoceanic Corridor will open new routes, especially in southeastern Mexico, with the possibility of connecting to Central America as well.

“Intermodal transportation is growing. We see routes like Mexico City–Guadalajara and Chihuahua with great potential. We still have a long way to go, but we’re on the right track,” he emphasized.

He also highlighted that the railway sector is listening more to customers and offering personalized services, something that was unthinkable a few years ago.

AMTI, which brings together more than 60 partners (including shipping companies, terminals, integrators, trucking companies, and railroads), will continue to promote this model, because Mexico’s logistics challenge will not be solved with more trucks, but with more alternatives, collaboration, and a long-term vision , he concluded.
