DP World announced the appointment of Terry Donohoe as CEO for its operations in Mexico , with the goal of leading the logistics business in the national market . He will oversee the network comprised of five freight forwarding offices and four warehouses located in various industrial centers, supported by 800 employees.

“I am honored to assume this role and to build upon the strong foundation already established in Mexico. The market presents significant opportunities, and I look forward to working with our teams to strengthen our capabilities, support our customers’ growth, and help build more resilient and efficient supply chains across the region,” said Donohoe.

Donohoe has over 30 years of experience in global logistics and supply chain management at various companies in the sector . Since joining the company in 2023, he has served as Senior Vice President of Freight Forwarding for the Americas , where he led regional operations and oversaw the expansion of the business across the region, including markets such as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Chile, and the United States.

Furthermore, under Donohoe’s leadership in the region, the company expanded its presence to 40 freight forwarding offices with a team of 400 people . Prior to joining DP World, Donohoe held positions such as Vice President of Operations in Toll Group ‘s Global Transportation division and leadership roles at Agility , Schenker , GeoLogistics , and BAX Global. 

Brian Enright, CEO of DP World Americas, highlighted that Terry has extensive experience in logistics and proven leadership in complex operations in the region , so “his track record in driving operational excellence, fostering innovation and managing high-performing teams positions him ideally to lead our operations in Mexico.”

According to figures from the  US Census Bureau , Mexico reaffirmed its position as the main trading partner of the United States in February 2026 , once again ranking as the top supplier of goods to the United States and the main importer of US products, while Canada and China showed declines.

According to an analysis by  T21 Business Intelligence ,  the exchange of goods between Mexico and its northern neighbor was $73,217.2 million during the second month of 2026 , an increase of 7.1% compared to February 2025.

In contrast, Canada fell 8.9% , totaling $57,543.6 million in February 2026; while  China dropped 36.1% compared to the same month last year , with a total traded value of $26,902.2 million.

In the accumulated January-February 2026, Mexico also led the trade exchange with the United States, with a total of 147,322.1 million dollars ; Canada reached 110,335.4 million dollars and China 56,289.2 million dollars in the first two months.

Regarding exports to the United States in the second month of 2026, Mexico maintained a solid performance, sending goods to the United States for 44,310.7 million dollars , which meant an increase of 6.4% annually.

Meanwhile, Canada exported $29,172.3 million, 16.5% less than in February 2025. China totaled $18,955.6 million in merchandise shipments to the United States last February, a figure that represented a decline of 40.1% compared to the same month in 2025.

In terms of imports, Mexico also solidified its position as the leading buyer of U.S. products, with $28.9065 billion in February 2026 , representing an 8 percent year-over-year increase. Canada saw a slight increase of 0.4%, totaling $28.3713 billion during the same period. China imported a total of $7.9466 billion, 24% less than in February 2025.

The  trade balance  in February 2026 showed a surplus for Mexico (15,404.2 million dollars) , China (11,009.1 million dollars) and Canada (801 million dollars).

Last February, the positive trend in trade between Mexico and the United States continued, as shown in January 2016, when the value of the exchange of goods was 74,105 million dollars.

The results for the second month of 2026 also reflect Mexico’s leading position in trade with the United States , despite constant pressure from its northern neighbor through protectionist measures. Meanwhile, Canada faces obstacles and China is losing ground in the North American market.

Mexico began 2016 as the leading exporter of goods to the United States and also became the top buyer of U.S. products. Canada and China, the other major trading partners of the U.S., saw declines in their trade, according to figures from the U.S. Census Bureau .

According to an analysis by  T21 Business Intelligence , the value of bilateral trade between Mexico and the United States reached $74.105 billion during the first month of this year, an increase of 6.5% compared to January 2025.

In contrast, Canada and China reported significant declines during the period. Canada showed a 19.5% drop compared to 2025, totaling $52.84 billion in January 2026. China registered a 43% year-on-year contraction, with total trade of $29.387 billion in the first month of 2026.

Regarding exports to the United States, Mexico maintained its leadership, sending products to the United States worth $42,517.7 million in January 2026, 2% more than in the same month of 2025.

Conversely, Canadian exports to the United States totaled $28.33 billion, a 26.1% year-over-year decrease. China’s merchandise shipments to the United States totaled $21.05 billion in the first month of 2026, a 49.4% decline compared to January 2025.

In terms of imports, Mexico purchased US goods worth $31.5872 billion in January 2026, a 13.1% year-over-year increase. Canada’s imports totaled $24.5103 billion, a 10.3% decrease compared to the same month last year. During the same period, China imported a total of $8.3291 billion, 15.9% less than in January 2025.

In January 2026, Donald Trump completed one year of his second term as President of the United States, an administration characterized by protectionist economic policies and the imposition of tariffs on various countries around the world. Despite this, Mexico has managed to circumvent these measures and has positioned itself as a key player in trade with the United States ; meanwhile, Canada and China have experienced setbacks in their trade with the world’s largest economy.

According to data from the US Census Bureau , Mexico ended 2025 as the main supplier of goods to the United States and also ranked as the top importer of US products , while Taiwan became the third largest trading partner of the northern neighbor, displacing China to fourth place.

In December 2025, Mexico solidified its position as the United States’ top trading partner, registering a trade of goods worth $70.521 billion , once again surpassing Canada, which totaled $57.2862 billion. Taiwan’s trade with the United States totaled $29.4955 billion, just ahead of China, which registered $29.4922 billion, placing it in fourth position.

According to an analysis by T21 Business Intelligence , Mexico’s bilateral trade with the United States reached $872.834 billion in 2025 , representing a 4% increase compared to 2024, when it totaled $839.555 billion. In contrast, Canada registered $719.4786 billion last year, a 5.6% decrease; while China reported $414.6881 billion, a 28.7% drop.

In exports to the United States, Mexico totaled $534,873.5 million in the period January-December 2025 , an increase of 5.8% compared to shipments made in 2024. Canada, for its part, exported $382,960.3 million, a contraction of 7%, and China totaled $308,379.7 million during the past year, which represented a decline of 29.7 percent.

In terms of imports, Mexico purchased US goods worth $337,960.1 million in 2025 , 1.2% more than in 2024. In this category, Canada totaled $336,518.3 million, which is 3.8% less than in 2024; while China imported a total of $106,308.4 million, which meant a contraction of 25.8% compared to 2024.

Mexico, top US buyer in December

During December 2025, Mexico was the main importer of US products with $28,161.1 million , representing a growth of 14.6% compared to the same month in 2024. It was followed by Canada with $25,512 million, a decrease of 5.4%, and Taiwan with $4,799.3 million, an increase of 33% over 2024.

In exports to the United States in the last month of last year, Mexico reaffirmed its leadership with $42.36 billion , an 8 percent increase. Meanwhile, Canada exported the equivalent of $31.77 billion to the United States, 10.6% less than in 2014, while Taiwan sold goods to its northern neighbor worth $24.69 billion, a 144.7% increase compared to 2014.

Mexico ended 2025 consolidating its position as the most important trading partner of the United States, despite the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump and the political tensions regarding trade and security .

In contrast, Canada and China felt the effects of the trade war driven by the United States more strongly, which was reflected in drops in their volumes of goods exchanged with their northern neighbor, weakening their position vis-à-vis Mexico.

The dynamics of Mexican foreign trade in November 2025 reaffirmed the country’s strength in the US market, according to data from the US Census Bureau .

In the penultimate month of last year, Mexico consolidated its position as the main trading partner of the United States, registering a total trade exchange of 71,132.2 million dollars (USD) , surpassing Canada, which totaled 53,700.1 million USD, and China with 27,959.1 million USD.

In an analysis conducted by T21 Business Intelligence , Mexico was the leading importer of US products during November 2025, with $26,616.5 million , although this figure represented a slight drop of 1.2% compared to the same month in 2024. It was followed by Canada with $25,339.9 million , a decrease of 11.5% compared to the same period in 2024, and China with $7,008.4 million , a drop of 44.4 percent.

In the first 11 months of 2025, Mexico’s  purchases of U.S. goods totaled $309.799 billion , a slight increase of 0.1% compared to the same period in 2024. Canada’s total was $310.0353 billion, a decrease of 3.9%. China’s imports reached $97.9205 billion, a decline of 25.2% over the same period.

In terms of exports to the United States, Mexico solidified its position as the most important partner. During November 2025, shipments of Mexican products to the U.S. market totaled $44.5157 billion , an annual increase of 5.4 percent. Canada exported $28.3602 billion to the United States, a decrease of 15.3 percent, and China $20.9507 billion, with a significant drop of 44.5 percent compared to the penultimate month of 2024.

As of November 2025, Mexico exported goods to the United States totaling $492,513.2 million , a 5.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Canada’s exports totaled $351,186.1 million, representing a 6.6% decrease; while China’s exports totaled $287,275.6 million, a 28.3% drop compared to the same period in 2024.

Regarding the trade balance, Mexico had a surplus of $17,899.1 million in November 2025 , while China’s was $13,942.3 million, and Canada’s was $3,020.3 million.

While Canada and China maintain geopolitical confrontations with the United States, Mexico registers sustained growth in its exports to its northern neighbor , consolidating itself as the main supplier of goods to the American Union.

According to estimates from the  International Chamber of Commerce Mexico (ICC Mexico) , the Mexican economy could grow between 1.3% and 1.8% during 2026, driven by the export sector , as the country continues to have a key comparative advantage with the rest of the world:  preferential access —with zero tariffs— under the current framework of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) .

According to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce , total trade between the United States and Mexico reached $71.7747 billion in October. Meanwhile, trade between the U.S. and Canada totaled $58.8335 billion, and trade with China reached $31.7949 billion.

In the month under review, Mexico exported goods to the United States worth $44.578 billion . Compared to September 2024, this represents a 0.9 percent increase. Mexican exports to the United States surpassed those of Canada and China, which totaled $31.9053 billion and $23.4147 billion, respectively.

In terms of imports, Mexico also positioned itself as the main destination for US products, with $27,196.3 million in September 2025, a 4% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, the value of US merchandise imports to Canada was $26,928.2 million, while imports to China totaled $8,380.2 million during the same period.

Cumulative figures up to September, with positive numbers

In the period from January to September 2025, Mexico consolidated its position as the United States’ main trading partner, with a total of $653,080.7 million . Canada totaled $545,181.6 million, while China totaled $324,399.1 million.

Mexico was also the top supplier to the United States among the three countries, with $399,473.3 million . It was followed by Canada with $291,705.4 million, and China with $242,437.5 million.

While US imports to Mexico totaled $253,607.4 million, this was just above those to Canada at $253,476.2 million and far above those to China at $81,961.6 million.

The trade balance for the period reflected surpluses in all three cases. China totaled $160,475.9 million, followed by Mexico with $145,866 million, and Canada with $38,229.1 million , showing a significant difference in the impact of each country.

Mexico’s performance last September reflected the country’s trade dynamics, due in part to the suspension of an additional tariff while waivers are negotiated under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) , which will be reviewed in July 2026.

It also underlines the importance of Mexico in the regional economy, which continues to adapt to the changes generated by the protectionist trade policy of the United States.

Following the longest U.S. government shutdown on record, the Department of Commerce released cumulative U.S. foreign trade figures through August 2025. The data confirms that Mexico remains the top trading partner, with total trade reaching $74.396 billion , once again surpassing Canada, with $56.59 billion, and China, with $33.405 billion.

While Mexican exports to the United States in August totaled $45.146 billion , an increase of 3.3% compared to the same month in 2024. In this category, Mexico ranked well above Canada, which reported $29.404 billion, and China, with $25.133 billion.

On the other hand, Mexican imports to the United States registered a decline, reaching $29.25 billion, a 2.6% drop compared to August 2024 , when a total of $30.052 billion was reported. Even so, Mexico remained ahead of Canada, which totaled $27.186 billion, and China, with $8.272 billion.

In terms of trade surplus with the United States, China led the top three partners with $16.861 billion, followed by Mexico with $15.896 billion, and Canada, which registered just $2.218 billion.

In cumulative imports from the United States, Mexico totaled $226.411 billion, surpassing Canada’s $225.642 billion. This result positions Mexico, for the first time, as the leading export destination to the United States . China reported $73.581 billion in imports.

In terms of accumulated surplus, China remains the partner with the largest sum at 145,441 million dollars, followed by Mexico, with 128,484 million dollars and Canada, with 34,158 million dollars.

The results for August and the year-to-date figures underscore the deep economic integration between the United States and Mexico . Mexico not only solidifies its position as the leading overall trading partner, but also surpasses Canada as the number one destination for U.S. exports, placing Mexico at the heart of regional trade, despite trade uncertainty.

QUERÉTARO, QRO.- In a context of global trade reconfiguration and review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in 2026, Mexico and Canada reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their economic relationship, boosting investment and diversifying their supply chains.

At the opening of the 31st Mexican Foreign Trade Congress , organized by the  Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (Comce) , the Canadian ambassador to Mexico, Cameron MacKay , stressed that both countries “are at a decisive moment to move towards a new era of cooperation based on shared prosperity, equity and friendship.”

MacKay highlighted that the leaders of the two nations agreed on a three-year action plan that will serve as a guide to trigger new opportunities for collaboration.

“We recognize more than ever the need to diversify our exports and imports and to strengthen the strategic infrastructure that fosters reciprocal investment,” he said.

As part of this effort, the ambassador announced the launch of a Canadian trade mission that will visit Mexico in February 2026, focused on sectors such as technology, clean energy, advanced manufacturing and the creative industries , with the participation of around 100 companies and organizations.

“The goal is to open up a range of business opportunities and strengthen alliances between Mexican and Canadian industry,” MacKay pointed out.

He also noted that trilateral collaboration with the United States is essential to maintaining North American competitiveness.

Querétaro, industrial transformation and export leadership

During his speech, Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of Querétaro , recalled that this year marks the 31st anniversary of the Foreign Trade Congress, a key event in the country’s export history.

“In 1994, with the North American Free Trade Agreement, Mexico embarked on a path of globalization and development in which everyone benefited. Querétaro then sowed the seeds of a global vision based on an industrial, logistical, and technological platform,” he noted.

Today, he asserted, the country exports not only goods, but also talent, innovation, and trust. He emphasized that the new era of international trade demands exporting better, not just more, with a focus on sustainability, innovation, and diversification .

“Thirty-one years ago, Mexico decided to open itself to the world. Today, we want to lead it,” he said.

For his part, Sergio Contreras, executive president of Comce, assured that the USMCA is fully consolidated and there are no signs of a break or significant changes.

“The agreement has clear dates for its review in 2026, and there are no signs that Canada or the United States are looking to withdraw from it. On the contrary, trilateral trade is stronger than ever,” he stated.

Contreras highlighted that 90% of Mexican exports are manufactured goods , reflecting the maturity and quality of the industrial sector.

“Last year we exported $617 billion, and nine out of ten products were manufactured goods. This demonstrates that Mexico not only exports volume, but also technology and added value,” he explained.

He also highlighted the resilience of Mexican businesses in the face of global challenges, including US tariffs.

“Despite the tensions, our exports grew 5.7% in the first nine months of the year. The export sector represents 75% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP): it is the backbone of the economy,” he said.

Finally, he announced that Comce is promoting the “Made in Mexico Quality” seal , an initiative that seeks to position Mexican manufacturing as synonymous with excellence globally.

“It’s not just about producing in Mexico, but about projecting the quality and innovation of our industry to the world,” he stressed.

In the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)  in Querétaro was 970 million dollars (mdd) , which placed the state among the top five places in attracting foreign capital nationwide, according to the Ministry of Economy .

In this regard, Susana Duque, general director of the  Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment, and Technology (COMCE) , highlighted the industrial, innovative, and logistical focus of this state , which will host the  31st Mexican Foreign Trade Congress .  “Querétaro represents the heart of Mexico’s new export economy ,” she emphasized.

“This year’s hosting is no coincidence: With an industrial ecosystem based on innovation, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and specialized talent, the state has established itself as a strategic hub for productive integration in North America and a key point for global value chains,” Duque emphasized.

During the announcement of said event, which will take place from October 29 to 31, 2025, Marco Antonio Del Prete, head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of Querétaro , recalled that in 2024 the state had an FDI of 1,055 million dollars and exports for 18,226 million dollars , which reflects the economic and industrial dynamism of the entity.

“Holding a congress like this one, of international scope, in Querétaro demonstrates the important role the state plays in the global business environment,” the official emphasized.

Óscar Peralta, president of Comce Querétaro, added that in the first half of 2025, the state exported more than $8.6 billion, mainly in auto parts, aerospace components, and household appliances .

According to figures from the Querétaro State Population Council (Coespo) , the state recorded a total of $4.656 billion in exports in the second quarter of 2025 ; Additionally, the state contributed 3.17% to national exports, ranking eleventh in this category nationwide.

By sector, transportation equipment manufacturing accounted for $2.263 billion in exports in Q2 2025 , followed by accessories, electrical appliances, and power generation equipment, which accounted for $677 million, and machinery and equipment, which accounted for $445 million. Additionally, manufacturing accounted for 98.9% of the state’s total exports, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) .

These figures consolidate Querétaro’s position as a state with economic strength and a marked openness to investment.

The 31st Mexican Foreign Trade Congress  will bring together business leaders, government authorities, and academic representatives to address topics such as customs digitalization; process automation; traceability and sustainability in supply chains; the relocation of production lines, known as nearshoring ; the revision of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), scheduled for 2026; and the use of artificial intelligence in international trade. The United States and Canada will be the guests of honor.

Despite the trade tensions prevailing worldwide due to tariff policy, total trade in goods between Mexico and the United States amounted to $74.357 billion during July 2025 , according to data from the United States Department of Commerce , confirming Mexico as the main trading partner of the American Union. 

Last July, the United States granted Mexico a new 90-day extension to impose a general 30% tariff on Mexican products, which would take effect on August 1 of this year , giving the Mexican government some breathing space to continue negotiations. However, tariffs on strategic sectors such as the 25% tariff on automotive products, as well as 50% on steel, aluminum, and copper, remain in effect.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, trade volume between Mexico and its northern neighbor surpassed that of other key partners. Canada registered trade of $58.27 billion . In the case of China, trade with the United States was $35.71 billion .

In the seventh month of the year, Mexican exports to the United States totaled $45.366 billion, representing an 8.2% increase compared to the same period last year , when $41.909 billion were recorded. This figure not only demonstrates the strength of Mexican exports, but also surpassed exports from Canada, which reached $32.172 billion, and from China, which reached $26.411 billion during the same period.

Meanwhile, U.S. sales of goods to Mexico totaled $28.99 billion , a 1% increase from $28.69 billion in July 2024. By comparison, Canada imported $26.097 billion in goods to the United States, and China imported just $9.298 billion.

Mexico’s trade balance showed a surplus of $16.375 billion last July , reflecting the country’s role as one of the main exporters to the U.S. economy.

Despite tensions with the United States over tariffs, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized in her First State of the Union address , presented on September 1, that the country has managed to consolidate a relationship of mutual respect with the United States.

In the run-up to the next revision of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) , scheduled for July 2026, a trade reconfiguration in North America will be determined, as well as strategies to strengthen the relationship between the partner countries of this trilateral agreement.
