Electromobility in heavy transport can now be a reality. When talking about electric vehicles in the country, the constant limitation is always the charging infrastructure, which is why Delectrico, in partnership with Huawei Digital Power , inaugurated the first ultra-fast charging electric charging station for heavy trucks in the country.

This innovative project incorporates Huawei’s FusionCharge chargers , with a capacity of up to 600 kW, allowing the simultaneous charging of up to 12 electric vehicles.

During the opening ceremony, Lorena Martínez, CEO of Delectrico, highlighted the importance of this advance in charging infrastructure.

“Today we are not only introducing a new charger, but we are taking a firm step towards the future of sustainable mobility in Mexico. FusionCharge raises the standard for fast charging for heavy transport, optimizing waiting times and ensuring efficient energy distribution,” he said.

Lorena Martinez explained that the electric charging station currently serves 50 charges per day for Grupo Marva (number 5 in the Top 100 of Autotransporte® ) but they also have other clients, so up to 120 daily recharges are counted on this site , which has also already incorporated the American and Chinese charger, so they will be able to provide service to more vehicles.

For his part, Miguel Ángel Martínez, president of the National Chamber of Cargo Transport (Canacar) and CEO of Marva, highlighted the impact that this development will have on the competitiveness of the sector.

“Cargo transportation is the pillar of the Mexican economy, we move 85% of the country’s land freight. However, we face challenges such as stricter environmental regulations and the need to modernize our fleet. The arrival of FusionCharge is a concrete response to these needs, demonstrating that electromobility is a viable and efficient option for our operations,” he said.

Huawei FusionCharge chargers incorporate a smart payment system and advanced cooling technology , maximizing safety and performance under intensive use conditions.

Furthermore, its compatibility with the main charging protocols in Mexico (CCS1 and GB/T) facilitates its adoption in a wide variety of electric vehicles.

Zhou Bo, CEO of Huawei Digital Power, highlighted the importance of this innovation for the future of sustainable mobility in the country, as a critical step in Mexico’s energy transformation.

He added that this technology seeks to eliminate one of the main barriers to the adoption of electromobility , offering an efficient and convenient alternative to fossil fuels.

The executive also highlighted the positive impact on the logistics and transportation industry and emphasized Huawei Digital Power’s commitment to sustainability and technological development in Latin America.

“With less reliance on traditional fuels and lower operating costs, companies will be able to make more deliveries per day, boosting the efficiency and competitiveness of the sector. This is just the beginning. We will continue to listen to the needs of the market and expand our ultra-fast charging network to build a cleaner and more sustainable future together,” he explained.

Juan Alberto Porras, treasurer of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) , stressed the importance of this advance for the industry.

“Sustainability is not just an environmental goal, but a strategic factor for competitiveness. Having fast-charging infrastructure like FusionCharge accelerates the energy transition and strengthens Mexico’s position as a leader in clean energy,” he said.

With this electric charging station, Delectrico and Huawei reinforce their commitment to innovation and the development of charging infrastructure that enables the transition to cleaner, more efficient and profitable transportation.

“The future of transportation requires real, viable and efficient solutions. With this initiative, we are demonstrating that electromobility in freight transportation is a reality in Mexico,” said Lorena Martínez.

This project is expected to be extended to the other five electric charging stations that Delectrico has in Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla, Salamanca and Mexico City.

The Deléctrica company announced that they are working on a pilot project in the Monterrey-Laredo corridor to transport cargo to the border with the United States, both for import and export, through a hybrid model of auto transport units, although the strategy is to carry out all border crossings with 100% electric units.

Lorena Martínez, CEO of the company, explained that they have currently implemented this plan that is carried out on the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo route, where their electric fleet is used on journeys of between 250 and 300 kilometers.

“It is a transfer from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo, where we already have a charging station, and we are about to open our station in Nuevo Laredo in April of this year, so in this way we will ensure that this transfer is made using electric vehicles and once in the border area with Laredo, Texas, we will look for cross dock areas, where a transfer of the merchandise can be made and the rest of the journey can be made with internal combustion vehicles,” he explained.

Deléctrica has developed, in collaboration with Transprtes Marva (number 5 in the Top 100 of Autotransporte® ), various circuits for the incorporation of 100% electric tractor-trailers, in a strategy to promote decarbonisation.

Among the circuits already operated by Transportes Marva with this scheme is the one in the Valley of Mexico, where they offer the service with Ferrovalle for the movement of containers; in Puebla to serve the automotive sector, as well as in Aguascalientes and Morelos where they work with Nissan. The most recent is Guadalajara, according to information shared with T21.

During her participation in the panel entitled Charging Infrastructure for Heavy Transport: Challenges and Advances in North America within the North America Mobility Summit 2025 Latam Mobility, Lorena Martínez said that this is a transitional solution, since the final goal is to carry out cross-border crossings with 100% electric units.

He said that Marva currently has a fleet of 60 fully electric tractor-trailers with all the necessary specifications such as the connection protocol, which allows the free passage of this type of vehicle to another territory.

Last November, Marva announced that it had exceeded one million kilometers traveled with its fleet of electric tractor-trailers, which has been the result of aligning interests with clients such as Ford, Hapag-Lloyd, Amazon, P&G, Nissan and Mercado Libre, to promote green logistics.

It should be remembered that in 2023, Deléctrica installed the first charging hub for heavy equipment , located in Tultitlán, State of Mexico, which has dual chargers with a capacity of 150 kW each, giving it a total capacity of two megawatts (2 mW), and in which it invested two million dollars.

It currently has charging facilities in Puebla, Salamanca (Guanajuato), Aguascalientes and Monterrey (Nuevo León), and soon in Nuevo Laredo (Tamaulipas).

Lorena Martínez, who is also secretary of the Electromobility Commission of the National Chamber of Cargo Transportation (Canacar) , said that the industry requires having charging stations at key road points, which are accessible and safe,

“Unfortunately, the industry is experiencing a security crisis, although there are obvious and tangible efforts in this regard, but today we are still in this crisis, and we cannot expect a carrier to seek to put its operator at risk, mainly, but also the vehicle and its load by placing it in recharging points that are subject to theft or any type of violence,” he said.

Since 2021, Grupo Marva ( Top 100 del Autotransporte® ) made the decision to venture into electromobility as a long-term strategy and contribute to the decarbonization of transport . Since then, various achievements have been recorded along the path set.

In 2022, Marva announced at Expo Transporte ANPACT the acquisition of the largest fleet of electric tractor trucks, through the alliance with BY Deléctrica , distributor of Chinese-origin BYD equipment.

In the strategic alliance with BY Deléctrica in 2023, the first charging hub for heavy equipment was installed , located in Tultitlán, State of Mexico, and which would serve to trace the route of the charging points in conjunction with Marva. Today there are charging facilities in Puebla, Salamanca (Gto.), Aguascalientes and Monterrey (NL).

Now in mid-November 2024, Marva has achieved the milestone of exceeding one million kilometers traveled with its fleet of 50 electric tractor-trailers, which translates into reducing 1,550 tons of CO2 into the environment.

Achieving this historic moment is the result of operating 130 thousand tons of different loads where it has achieved active collaboration with companies that have aligned interests with Grupo Marva, such as Ford , Hapag-Lloyd , Amazon , P&G , Nissan and Mercado Libre , where they have assumed an active role in the drive towards greener logistics.

“These types of collaborations not only benefit our clients, but also create a positive impact that extends to the whole of society. We are committed to continuing to promote this structural change,” said Manuel Lastiri, commercial executive of Grupo Marva.

With these results, Manuel Lastiri shared, “Transportes Marva also demonstrates that sustainable solutions are both viable and scalable, encouraging other companies to follow suit.”

For Marva, this achievement is only confirmation that it will continue on this path. For this reason, the company plans to expand its electric fleet and continue innovating in technologies that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of its operations.

“This is just the beginning of an ongoing effort to integrate responsible practices at every stage of the logistics chain. Our goal is not just to reduce emissions, we take on a role in inspiring the industry to adopt a more sustainable and progressive approach,” Manuel Lastiri emphasized.

In addition to the charging points that have been established, by the end of the year Marva expects to have two additional locations in Cuernavaca (Mor.) and Guadalajara (Jal.), with which it will be able to electrify more routes, by adding circuits and routes with the capacity of autonomy.
