Greater infrastructure and reduced logistics costs are among the main areas of opportunity to consolidate the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) as a more competitive and efficient airfield in the handling of air cargo .

According to the Mexican Association of Freight Forwarders (Amacarga) , the identified challenges represent a roadmap for its strengthening, since addressing them will allow the airport to consolidate itself as a world-class logistics hub , boosting Mexico’s competitiveness and air connectivity.

“AIFA and Mexican aviation should not be seen as an obstacle, but as an opportunity for fair economic integration and logistical security in North America,” said Eva María Muñoz Pineda, president of Amacarga.

After participating in a meeting at the National Palace to analyze the operating conditions, viability and logistical development of the AIFA, he specified that work must be done on a greater specialized infrastructure for oversized operations and storage .

This includes enhanced security on access roads to reduce theft incidents and increase user confidence; clarity and standardization of customs and operational processes, avoiding delays and additional costs.

This also includes reducing logistical costs related to transportation, tolls, fuel, and handling, as well as investing in technology and specialized equipment that allows for traceability, control, and agile digitization of goods.

He emphasized that strengthening AIFA depends not only on infrastructure, but also on coordination between authorities, airlines, freight forwarders, customs agents and bonded warehouses ; with clear incentives and competitive conditions that promote its use.

“Amacarga recognizes that all the actors involved —airlines, customs agents and freight forwarders— agree that AIFA remains a great option for the country’s logistical development,” Muñoz said.

During the meeting, representatives from the public sector, airlines, customs agents, logistics operators and cargo companies agreed on the strategic relevance of AIFA within the national airport system and its potential as a key logistics hub for Mexican foreign trade .

The president of Amacarga presented the vision of the International Freight Forwarder , highlighting the main areas of opportunity identified by the association to consolidate AIFA as a more competitive and efficient airport in the handling of air cargo.
