Faced with the closure of highways in at least 14 states of the country, resulting from the national strike called by the National Association of Transporters (ANTAC)  and the  National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside (FNRCM) , the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) warned about millions of dollars in losses that these measures generate in industry and commerce .

The organization stated in a press release that road closures and blockades in strategic logistics corridors are having a severe impact on the national economy.

In that regard, he indicated that more than 56% of cargo in Mexico is transported by land, so he estimated that road blockades could cause losses exceeding 750 million pesos (mdp) daily .

“In prolonged or simultaneous scenarios, losses can escalate between three and six billion pesos in a week, affecting companies, workers and consumers,” he stressed.

The agency reiterated that each stopped transport unit can represent losses of up to 180,000 pesos per day, in addition to generating disruptions in inventories, contractual breaches and delays in deliveries , with chain effects that impact exports, logistics costs and supply of essential inputs.

He stressed that the impact not only falls on the industry, but also on millions of families who depend on the continuous flow of goods and services throughout the country.

Canacintra acknowledged the legitimate right to protest, but cautioned that dialogue must be the primary means of reaching agreements and sustainable solutions. Therefore, it called on the federal government to keep institutional channels open, prioritize dialogue, and avoid measures that could harm the national economy . It also reiterated its willingness to collaborate as a partner in promoting solutions.

So far, truckers and farmers have carried out blockades, partial closures and takeovers of toll booths in at least 14 states of the country.

Some of the routes affected with total closures are:  Baja California in San Luis Río Colorado-Mexicali kilometer (km) 3+200;  Guanajuato on the La Piedad–Pénjamo highway km 075+000, and in Hidalgo , where protesters are on the Álamo-Tamazunchale highway km 020+300.

Partial road closures are occurring in  Chihuahua and Tamaulipas ; in addition, there are protesters at some toll plazas in the State of Mexico, Michoacán and Sinaloa .

The indefinite strike called by ANTAC and FNRCM responds to problems that have persisted in the sector: insecurity on highways ,  high operating costs and lack of progress on previously established agreements with federal authorities, according to these organizations themselves.

El cargo How much impact do road blockades have? Canacintra quantifies them apareció primero en T21.

On the morning of Sunday, February 22, 2026, the National Intelligence Center and the Attorney General’s Office (FEMDO) , along with Special Forces of the Mexican Army, planned and executed an operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, to arrest Ruben “N” (a) Mencho, the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) reported in its afternoon information card .

It was later revealed that the man known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, had been killed.

Following this situation, groups associated with this criminal organization carried out various acts of violence, primarily focused on the states of Jalisco, Colima, Morelia, and Nayarit. Later that evening, the National Guard (GN)  reported 252 road blockades across 20 states.

This morning, Capufe reported no incidents related to these blockades on its X account. Meanwhile, the National Guard also reported no vehicle fires , although its last report was at 7:26 pm this Sunday.

In response to this situation, yesterday, Sunday, the trucking and logistics sector began issuing information to protect the lives of its employees and prevent further damage to its infrastructure.

In the images shared by the authorities and in various media outlets, units from various transport companies were seen that were used to carry out blockades (narco-blockades) in the 20 aforementioned entities, where many of these units were set on fire.

In response, transport companies such as Autotransportes Pilot , Transportes Innovativos , Transmontes , Transportes Monroy Schiavon (TMS) , Transportes Industriales Unidos (TIUSA) , Grupo Flecha Amarilla; among others, announced through their social networks that they were pausing operations to avoid traveling on highway sections that were being taken over by members affiliated with the CJNG, thus affecting drivers and vehicles.

In her morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that there are no road blockades at the moment.

Focus on the port of Manzanillo

Due to the CJNG’s area of ​​influence, the port of Manzanillo was the most affected , and although around 2 p.m. this Sunday a message was released by Asipona Manzanillo , “requesting all terminals and users of the port to remain on alert within their facilities and reinforce all necessary measures to safeguard the integrity of their personnel.”

Later, around 3:28 p.m., Asipona Manzanillo itself issued a statement emphasizing that the port continued to operate regularly and there was no suspension of port activities or partial closures.

However, several terminals operating in this port, such as SSA Marine Mexico and Hutchison Ports TIMSA, announced that their operations would resume on Monday, February 23, at 8:00 a.m., with the goal of safeguarding their workers and facilities. As for the Contecon terminal in the same port, it reported that operations were continuing as directed by ASIPONA.

The Mexican Navy (Semar) indicated that in the case of the Manzanillo customs office – the second busiest and highest revenue-generating in the country – its closure does not imply a general closure of the port, since other areas of the customs facility were operational.

“In order to guarantee the safety of workers and facilities, all access points to the port have been reinforced, drone teams have been deployed for surveillance, and smaller vessels have been stationed in San Pedrito to control vessel traffic in the docks. Supervisory patrols are being carried out throughout the port area,” the Navy stated in a press release.

The Confederation of Associations of Customs Agents of the Mexican Republic (CAAAREM) recommended that its members “stay attentive to official notices and coordinate with their teams and clients.”

Puerto Vallarta, the most affected airport

Regarding the airports in the most affected area: Jalisco and Nayarit, the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) reported this Sunday that the airports of Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta and Tepic were operating normally.

However, airlines reported canceling operations to and from Puerto Vallarta airport, such as Volaris , while Viva reported canceling flights between this tourist destination and Monterrey and Toluca. Air Canada also reported canceling flights to this destination.

Aeromexico, for its part, reported that it canceled all its flights scheduled for February 22 to Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo and Tepic, and therefore implemented its passenger protection policy.

Code red

In Skyangel ‘s Red Code Special Report , the situation is described as a pressure tactic by the CJNG towards the State, affecting mobility and generating chaos in the country.

Skyangel’s analysis identified critical areas such as the west (Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Nayarit and Guanajuato), the epicenter of the situation; and the north/northeast, which is the border risk involving the states of Tamaulipas, Sinaloa, Baja California and Nuevo León.

In the central-southern/southeastern region, the states of Guerrero, Puebla, Veracruz, and Quintana Roo were identified.
The logistics corridors most affected were those from Mexico City westward, the Pacific ports (Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta), and the northern border (Tamaulipas and Nuevo León).

Skyangel reported that the tense situation could be prolonged due to the criminal group’s reaction activities; real-time route reconfiguration is recommended, suggesting suspending sections with active reports. For this , official communications from Sedena, GN, and private sources should be monitored.

It is also suggested to reduce or postpone travel to the most affected areas: Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Tamaulipas.

Skyangel believes it is essential to coordinate with clients and suppliers to activate force majeure clauses when necessary, as well as to establish security protocols.

Businesses at risk

Although there are still no estimates of the economic losses caused by the road blockades in some states of the country, such as Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Tamaulipas, Oaxaca, Baja California, Guanajuato and others, the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur)  asked the business sector to verify the status of roads and logistics routes before making transfers.

He also recommended activating internal operational continuity protocols and preventive adjustments, as well as maintaining communication with their local chamber to channel incidents and receive verified information.

In a statement, the agency indicated that it activated coordination with federal and state security authorities, and with local chambers of commerce to protect the population and provide certainty to commerce and tourism.

In the affected areas, there are more than 80 chambers of commerce, services and tourism, which maintain active and permanent communication for the exchange of information and timely assistance to companies and family businesses.

El cargo Logistics as “collateral damage” in the operation against “El Mencho”; trucking as a focus for road apareció primero en T21.

The constant blockades by farmers at border points and highways in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, which have occurred in the last two weeks due to the lack of agreements with the federal government on the Water Law , generated major economic and logistical problems.

In an interview with T21, Manuel Sotelo , vice president of the northern region of the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) , warned that the blockades paralyzed goods with an estimated value exceeding two billion dollars (mdd) , affecting the maquiladora industry that operates mainly through this border crossing.

Sotelo noted that, according to U.S. Customs data, each shipment has an average value of $65,000, and at least 7,000 shipments cross the border daily, including both exports and imports. Last week alone, with four days of closures, the value of the goods that failed to cross on time reached $1.3 billion . This week, with three days of closures, approximately 17,500 shipments were held up, representing $1.137 billion.

Sotelo recalled that the previous week the city faced four days of total isolation. Protesters blocked key border crossings such as Guadalupe-Tornillo, Zaragoza-Ysleta, Córdoba de las Américas, and Jerónimo-Santa Teresa , as well as highway access to the north and south, leading to shortages of gasoline and basic goods.

In contrast, this week the blockades were concentrated solely at border crossings, leaving the routes south open, which served as alternatives for diverting goods to Nogales or Laredo. However, costs and transit times skyrocketed: a crossing that normally takes two hours and costs $150 to $200 became a journey of up to two days and more than 100,000 pesos per unit .

Regarding customs, Sotelo explained that there is a delay of between seven and ten days for the flow of goods to return to normal. However, it was agreed that customs will extend its operating hours, which will expedite the flow and reduce accumulated delays.

The vice president of Canacar lamented that a region strategic for binational trade is being hit by the lack of agreements and pointed out that the protesters chose Chihuahua because “Ciudad Juárez is the number one manufacturing exporter in the country.”

“We are pleased that the federal government is doing its part. It is not fair that a region should be so negatively affected because they cannot reach an agreement with one economic sector of the country,” he emphasized.

On Friday morning, farmers withdrew from the Zaragoza–Ysleta, Guadalupe–Tornillo and Jerónimo–Santa Teresa border crossings, which had been blocked since December 2.

According to data from the United States Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) , in the period January-August 2025, trade was recorded for 581,306 million dollars, of which 72,975 million dollars were through the Juárez-Ysleta International Bridge , consolidating it as the second most dynamic crossing, after Nuevo Laredo-Laredo, with 229,738 million dollars in the cycle.

El cargo Blockades over the Water Law are affecting trade with the US for the maquiladora industry in Ciudad Juárez apareció primero en T21.

The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) reported that agricultural producers and transporters agreed to remove the highway blockades they had maintained at various points on Mexican highways since November 24

In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) indicated that the sector’s leaders were presented with a package of programs and institutional actions aimed at addressing their main demands.

In addition, he indicated that three working groups were set up with specific focuses, such as road safety, to address concerns about crime and risks on journeys ; legal regulations on water, in order to clarify doubts about current regulations, especially relevant to the agricultural sector; and attention to issues in the countryside, related to production, support and regional needs.

The federal agency emphasized that the protesters pledged to  lift the blockades and end the disruption to the free movement of the population and restore access for emergency services and essential transport, and stressed its willingness to follow up on the agreements.

For its part, the National Association of Carriers (ANTAC) indicated that, among the agreements reached at the meeting on the issues of transport, owner-truck drivers and operators, were the closure of irregular access points to reduce risk zones, the renewal of licenses and the streamlining of procedures such as the re-registration of vehicle registration .

It was also proposed to request state congresses to create specialized prosecutors’ offices against transportation crimes, and it was agreed that states should not intervene in federal highway sections with checkpoints, mobile units or nighttime inspections, except in coordination with the National Guard and state corporations.

The association emphasized that a security meeting will be convened with the National Guard and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) to analyze the sections with the highest incidence of crime against transporters in order to strengthen protection and guarantee safe conditions on federal routes.

The demonstrations by farmers and transporters demanding greater security and better prices for agricultural products, which began on November 24, included 26 simultaneous road blockades in at least 17 states of the country .

El cargo Truckers and farmers remove road blockades after dialogue with the Interior Ministry apareció primero en T21.

The demonstrations announced for November 24th remain a possibility, after the National Association of Transporters (ANTAC) reiterated its call to operators and users not to go out on the road during the day of protests.

The message, disseminated through its legal department, warned that the mobilization would take place in different parts of the country to demand better security conditions.

According to the organization, the protest is a response to the increase in highway robberies , the lack of effective results in security matters by state and national governments, and the need to highlight the situation faced by both transporters and agricultural producers.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior  reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue following the announcement of potential blockades. In a statement, the Ministry called for a working group meeting this Monday, November 24, at 11:00 a.m., with the participation of agencies such as the National Water Commission , the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , and the Ministry of Economy , to address the concerns of truckers and producers. The Ministry of the Interior urged the organizations to avoid disrupting free transit and emphasized that inter-institutional dialogue is the appropriate way to develop joint solutions. 

ANTAC reiterated that the call not only addresses demands from the trucking industry, but also claims from the agricultural sector, with whom they maintain coordination.

According to figures from the National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV) , more than two thousand cargo thefts were reported between January and October 2025, although it warns that the real figure could be higher due to unreported incidents.

The agency notes that 80% of cargo truck robberies are committed with violence and follow defined patterns: they occur mainly from Monday to Friday and are concentrated at night or in the early morning (between 5:00 and 8:00 a.m.), as well as from 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. onward on routes such as the Mexico City-Querétaro highway. Highways in central Mexico and the Bajío region, including the Mexico City-Puebla highway, the Mexico City-Querétaro highway, the Arco Norte highway, and Highway 57, remain among the most dangerous.

In this context, the president of the Communications and Transportation Commission of the Chamber of Deputies , Víctor Manuel Pérez, warned that highway insecurity not only affects national trucking, but also has international implications, to the point of becoming a point of attention for the United States during the next review of the USMCA trade agreement .

According to the legislator, companies and foreign trade organizations from the neighboring country have requested urgent attention to the issue as part of the discussions leading up to the 2026 process.

The truckers who called for the demonstration explained that the mobilization aims to demand greater protection on the roads, denounce the persecution of producers, and demand better conditions for those who transport and sell goods. They also indicated that the actions would take place “throughout the country,” without specifying concrete locations in their statement.

The protests have caused disruptions on several strategic routes across the country. These include highways connecting to the Valley of Mexico, such as the Mexico-Toluca, Mexico-Querétaro, Mexico-Pachuca, Mexico-Puebla, and Mexico-Cuernavaca highways, as well as the stretch leading to Acapulco.

Complications are also reported in states such as San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Sonora, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Campeche, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Baja California, Colima and Nayarit, among others.

As the protests continue, the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) are maintaining dialogue with transportation and farming organizations to minimize disruptions. The agencies have insisted that an agreement is the way to address the conflicts, guaranteeing both freedom of expression and freedom of movement.

The National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) reiterated in recent days that it will not participate in blockades and that the only responsible way to address the concerns of the sector is through institutional dialogue.

El cargo Road blockades confirmed; insecurity could affect USMCA review apareció primero en T21.

The disruption of supply chains due to road blockades in various parts of the country is causing millions in losses and a direct impact on the trucking sector, warned Héctor Manuel Romero Sánchez , president of Círculo Logístico and advisor to the National Council of Executives in Logistics and Supply Chain (ConaLog) .

“Billions of pesos are being lost. Today there are already shortages of hydrocarbons and risks in the transport of medicines and perishables. We are talking about profound damage to the basic food basket and to the functioning of last-mile delivery,” Romero explained.

The specialist explained that in areas such as Lagos de Moreno, San Juan de los Lagos, the Bajío region, and western Mexico , fuel tankers are at a standstill, which has begun to affect gasoline supplies. He added that the disruption in the transport of refrigerated products and food is also directly impacting consumers.

Romero pointed out that 80% of transport companies in Mexico are what we call “man-trucks” or small businesses , and when their units are stopped, the economic blow is immediate.

“Transportation is paralyzed. Highway concessionaires are no longer generating income, and truck drivers depend on their trucks for their livelihood. There are medium-sized companies that are already reporting losses of around 250 million pesos,” he warned.

The ConaLog advisor also added that the blockades have generated lines of up to 25 or 30 kilometers , and that the normalization of road traffic could take at least 15 days , even after the toll booths are reopened.

“It’s not that they open and everything goes back to normal; Capufe will have to release traffic little by little, and that will continue to delay cargo movements,” he pointed out.

Farmers’ blockades entered their fifth consecutive day on October 31 , affecting toll plazas and highways in several states.

Romero stressed that these disruptions not only cause delays, but also additional risks to transportation.

“Many operators are resorting to secondary roads with higher levels of insecurity. This raises logistics costs and compromises the integrity of the cargo,” he explained.

He also warned that the blockades generate a domino effect in the logistics chain: warehouses begin to become saturated due to lack of movement, perishables are lost, and distribution flows are disrupted.

“When the transport of hydrocarbons, medicines, and food is interrupted, the stability of essential sectors is jeopardized. This type of crisis can even be reflected in the behavior of the Gross Domestic Product , because land transport moves about 90% of the country’s goods ,” he pointed out.

According to information published on official channels of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) , on October 31, closures and disruptions persisted on various highways in the country, mainly on the Arco Norte , at kilometer 195 in the Calpulalpan–Sanctórum section , as well as on the Querétaro–Irapuato highway , where partial closures were maintained in both directions.

In Michoacán , protests continued in places like Ecuandureo, Panindícuaro and Zinapécuaro , while in Guanajuato a partial opening was reported on the 45D Salamanca–Celaya highway , at the height of Santiago de Cuenda, Juventino Rosas .

The SICT urged motorists to use alternate routes and check notices on official networks before starting trips, as disruptions are constantly moving.
