UMÁN, YUC.- With an investment of more than six million dollars (mdd), Axionlog México, a company specializing in comprehensive supply chain solutions, inaugurated its new Maya distribution center (CD Maya) in Umán, Yucatán , thus expanding and strengthening its logistics capabilities in the southeast of the country, while reducing distances in the supply of goods.

During the opening ceremony of this new unit, Mario Nájera, general manager of Axionlog Mexico, highlighted that this facility is a strategic investment for the future, and is part of an operation to build a more efficient and scalable logistics network to support the growth of the markets they serve in the area, and improve the services they offer to their customers.

CD Maya has a total area of 8,200 square meters (m2), of which 2,200 m2 are built area. It also has a capacity for 1,622 storage positions : 904 for dry goods, 620 for frozen goods, and 98 for refrigerated goods.

In an interview with T21, Nájera shared that the company concentrated in Umán the operations that it previously maintained separately in Cancún and Mérida, as part of a strategy to strengthen its logistics coverage in the area.

This facility will allow us to cover markets from Chetumal, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Mérida, to Holbox , according to the executive, who indicated that the strategy seeks to bring the operation closer to the point of demand.

The distribution center, which will begin operations on August 24, will have an operation of more than 50 routes , through which approximately 40,000 boxes will be distributed each week to about 200 stores .

It will also have 14 loading docks, distributed in seven general, two for the dry area and five for refrigerated and will have 162 racks , of which 152 are double and 10 are single.

Fewer kilometers in the operation

One of the effects of the consolidation will be the modification of long-distance routes. Nájera explained that part of the operation was previously carried out directly from Mexico City to Cancún, while now the plan involves transporting the merchandise from the capital to Mérida and from there completing the last mile to Cancún and other points in the region.

The change will reduce the kilometers traveled, as well as the number of long-distance trips , which will also have a favorable effect on the carbon footprint of the operation.

The decision comes at a time when Yucatán is looking to expand its storage and distribution infrastructure. In 2025, the state government announced a 140 million peso (MXN) investment in the Lok Park logistics park, comprised of 26 warehouses intended for logistics, transportation, e-commerce, and regional distribution companies.

The number of units in Mexico is strengthening.

With the opening of CD Maya, Axionlog now has seven such facilities in Mexico: its main center in Tlalnepantla, as well as Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Hermosillo and Chihuahua .

Nationwide, the company serves more than 3,500 locations each week , while the peninsula operation will represent just over 200, Nájera added in an interview.

The opening also has a job component. According to the specialist, in recent weeks, 33 families from the region have joined Axionlog as part of the staff that will operate the new distribution center.

For the company, the investment is not limited to infrastructure. The executive emphasized that talent development, training, and the creation of new skills are part of the objectives associated with the facility.

Regarding the business units , Mario Nájera highlighted that Axionlog is the main asset and focuses on offering comprehensive supply chain solutions and logistics operation services.

American Foodservice (AFS) offers product development and recommendations on handling and performance in restaurants. Axionlog Eco Solutions (AES) manages and tracks waste such as cardboard and used oil. Axionlog Freight Forwarding focuses on foreign trade and international transportation, coordinating the collection of products from various countries, their import, and delivery to distribution centers in Mexico.

For the company, the new distribution center represents an expansion of its operational capacity and, at the same time, a reorganization of its network.
