With the aim of promoting female inclusion in the trucking industry , Camely Logística and the Association of Women Cargo Vehicle Operators (AMO) signed a collaboration agreement that will create job opportunities for female operators, promoting their participation in the sector, according to a press release issued by the companies.

Camely Logística, a company specializing in vehicle transport, is seeking to have 20% of its workforce made up of women, a goal higher than the world average in the sector.

Currently, in Mexico , women represent only 1% of the total number of operators , according to data from the General Directorate of Federal Transportation (DGAF) , despite a 23.6% increase in the issuance of federal licenses for women in 2024

In December 2024 alone, 5,262 licenses were issued to women.

Camely Logística’s role in the industry is fundamental, as it is responsible for transporting units from production plants to distributors and, subsequently, to end customers. In this context, the demand for operators is key to keeping the heavy vehicle sector moving in Mexico.

According to figures from the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor Producers (ANPACT) , in 2024 the wholesale market placed 66,455 units, both passenger and cargo. Meanwhile, the retail cargo movement represented 57,106 vehicles, that is, the delivery of units to the final customer, in which Camely participates.

The need for more operators , including female talent , becomes an opportunity to strengthen the sector and make it more inclusive.

Paola Moncada, president of AMO, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Through this type of agreement we seek to increase this figure and open more doors for women in the trucking industry.”

In addition, this alliance will promote the training, engagement and visibility of female talent in the sector.

“We are in a period of growth and we want to do so with more women in our work team,” said Miguel Elizalde, partner at Camely Logística.

She commented that through this agreement they will be able to establish direct communication with female talent and offer opportunities for collaboration in the transfers that the company carries out, mainly in new tractor-trailers.

This agreement represents a significant step towards reducing the gender gap and promoting a more inclusive and equitable sector. Camely Logística and AMO reaffirmed their commitment to generating opportunities and strengthening the female presence on the road.

“We have transported beer, containers, flat glass, we work with general cargo using containers. We have worked with many types of services. Our mission is to provide transportation services,” Jaime Leal Elizondo, Administrative Director of Transportes Cuauhtémoc, told T21.

The implementation of environmental standards and the desire for innovation have driven the company to opt for more modern and sustainable units.

Adaptation to regulations is also on the agenda.
Another major challenge is road safety . Transportes Cuauhtémoc works in coordination with the National Guard and participates in joint operations to mitigate risks. In addition, it has incorporated technologies such as cameras and monitoring systems to strengthen the safety of its operators and merchandise.

The human factor as a priority

Beyond modernization, the company maintains its commitment to its operators.

Cargo theft in Mexico continues to rise and this year’s figures show a clear trend towards certain products as the most coveted by criminals, according to AI27 , a company dedicated to predictive and preventive solutions in transportation and logistics, which has warned about specific patterns that could put carriers at risk.

Among the main products that attract the attention of criminals on Mexican roads are groceries, wines and liquors, as well as wires and steel .

Raúl Betancourt, director of Data Science at AI27, explained that the high rate of grocery theft is due to the ease with which these goods can be sold on the black market.

“The high demand for these goods allows thieves to introduce them into informal trade without raising suspicions about their origin,” Betancourt explained.

This leads one to reflect on the imposition of 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports by the United States to Mexico, which could bring more greed among the “owners of other people’s property” with respect to steel loads.

AI27 data reveals that in January 2025, 37% of stolen products belonged to the grocery category , consolidating this historical trend.

Wines and spirits follow , which have been a frequent target of organized crime, while wires and steel occupy third place on the list of most stolen goods.

The report also highlights that the months with the highest incidence of robberies in the last two years have been June and November, with rates of 9.6% and 9.5% , respectively. In particular, June 2024 recorded the highest figure at 10.2%, while November 2023 reached 10.8 percent.

“We have seen an increase in thefts during holiday periods, public holidays and commercial events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday in November. These times represent opportunities for criminals due to the increase in the movement of goods and less surveillance on certain routes,” warned Betancourt.

The theft of goods not only affects transport companies , it also has an impact on the economy and end consumers.

With just days to go before US President Donald Trump announces whether he will impose new tariffs on imports from Mexico , the trade relationship between the two countries appears to be in a crisis stage, like a marriage facing its most difficult test.

With migration tensions on the rise and a constant flow of goods between the two nations , the logistics and transport sector is closely following the possible changes that could define the future of this relationship.

In the style of a marriage, with ups and downs, trade between Mexico and the United States has managed to remain strong, reflected in the increase in the number of trucks that entered U.S. territory in 2024, according to data from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) .

In total, trucks entering the United States from Mexico totaled 5.94 million in 2024, reflecting a global increase of 2.8% compared to 2023.

In its latest report, the DOT reveals that the port of Laredo, Texas , handled more than three million trucks from Mexico, an increase of 3.1% compared to the previous year (2023). This makes it the main entry point for goods in the United States, representing 50.9% of the total crossings.

Other ports also reported year-on-year growth.

Mexico established itself as the United States’ main trading partner in 2019 , displacing China. But in 2020 and 2021, the COVID-19 crisis and changes in the global economy allowed Canada to regain its leadership, according to the United States Department of Transportation’s historical data (from 2016 to 2024) .

In 2023 , with a total trade of 797 thousand 958 million dollars, Mexico once again surpassed Canada and China. This change responds to the growth of nearshoring , among other aspects such as the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) that has strengthened economic ties between both countries.

Although cross-border trade with Mexico showed growth in cargo flow, the Freight Services Index (TSI) figures reflect a cooling in demand for transportation within the United States.

According to the DOT, TSI fell 1.0% in December 2024 compared to the same month in 2023. This reduction was due to a drop in road and water transportation, while the rail and intermodal segments showed increases.

Divorce in sight?

Statements from both sides of the relationship attempt to calm the storm, especially on the part of the Mexican president, who has expressed her constant desire to maintain dialogue. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the issue of trade relations with the United States at the morning conference on February 19, 2025, and expressed her confidence that trade relations with the United States will remain stable.

“I tend to think that there will be a good relationship between President Trump and the President of Mexico. We are neighboring countries, we are not going anywhere, we are commercial partners and we have to do our best to have a good relationship ,” Sheinbaum said.

The performance of cross-border trade and the movement of goods remains a key indicator of the economic dynamics of Mexico and its northern neighbor. As in any marriage in crisis, tension over possible tariffs and restrictions remains latent, while actors in the transport sector watch cautiously, awaiting a resolution that will define whether this relationship remains strong or enters a new period of economic turbulence.

When Kenworth DAF BACE began operations more than half a century ago , the landscape of trucking in Mexico was very different, the sector’s infrastructure was barely consolidated and transporters faced endless logistical and technological challenges.

Since then, the company has evolved in step with the industry , becoming a benchmark in the distribution of heavy vehicles and expanding its presence in Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes and Zacatecas, as Alberto Rodríguez, its general director, told T21.

Today, with an operational structure that includes 800 employees and a network of 20 branches focused on spare parts, specialized workshops and the marketing of semi-new units, among others, the company continues to invest in innovation and the personalization of its service, aware that the future of transportation demands adaptability and strategic vision .

In addition, it has a wide service infrastructure throughout the country , with 1,225 operational service bays nationwide. Looking to the future, the company aims to expand its capacity to at least 1,329 bays by 2025 .

The year 2024 represented a turning point for the transportation industry in Mexico. Rodríguez commented that demand reached historic figures with the sale of 40 thousand Class 8 units , “an unprecedented record.” However, this bonanza also brought with it significant challenges.

The shortage of suppliers created difficulties, highlighting the rearview mirror crisis in mid-2024, which impacted the entire supply chain .

One of the company’s most important strategic moves in 2024 was the introduction of the DAF brand in the Mexican market .

With 96 years of experience in Europe, this premium brand of Dutch origin arrived with the promise of offering a solution adapted to clients with specific loading and handling needs.

“The big challenge for us was not to cannibalize customers. We also had to prepare people, train technicians, have available inventories, investments in tools, parts, diagnostic technicians and sales, which is very different from Kenworth,” explained Rodríguez, referring to the launch of DAF.

Selling with purpose!

One of the values that distinguishes Kenworth DAF BACE is its commitment to personalized service. The company does not seek to “sell for the sake of selling”, but rather to offer solutions adapted to the real needs of the client.

“I like the customer to buy. It’s very different when they buy from you than when you sell to them, and they buy what they really need,” said Rodríguez.

Despite the challenges facing the sector, the company continues to invest and innovate and maintains its focus on personalizing service and training technicians , ensuring that customers receive efficient and reliable solutions.

With a long-term growth strategy, the company is preparing to face the challenges of the future with the same determination as 55 years ago.

“We, as a group, have decided to move forward with our investment projects for this year and the next three years,” said Rodriguez.

Grupo Tarahumara , a company specializing in the marketing of fine fruits and vegetables, said that the growing demand for these products in Mexico has challenges such as maintaining the cold chain and having the units for their transportation.

Karla Morán, the company’s general manager, mentioned that 90% of the products it imports are transported via road transport, through alliances with transport lines.

In an interview with T21, he explained that Grupo Tarahumara uses 600 units per month , equipment that must have a refrigeration system to ensure the cold chain, therefore, it is key that companies have a preventive maintenance log to avoid failures along the way.

However, he said that the total transportation is insufficient to meet the company’s growth expectations, and that they will therefore work on signing more alliances.

“We are making commercial agreements with secure lines to improve capacity, we are looking for a win-win, where we give them the confidence that we will contract the service consistently and with timely payment and that guarantees that we will have the units and thus we can demand improvements such as refrigeration equipment and be able to have alliances and a common process to have a greater guarantee that the product we bring arrives well preserved,” he said.

He explained that future growth requires increasing the fleet by 10%, which would allow for greater capacity and meeting demand.

He said that this year logistics operations grew by 24% , which also meant an increase in installed capacity and strengthening alliances with key components of the chain.

He explained that more than 60% of imported products are moved by land and the rest by sea. “We bet on being large and strong distributors of imported merchandise to Mexico, without ceasing to work in key national seasons such as the national apple from Chihuahua, the grape from Sonora for consumption in the country, and also in distribution, although we bring fruit, what we sell is service , of taking the product to where it is requested with the greatest agility, optimization and above all taking care of the cold chain,” he said.

He explained that the company specializes in the movement of apples, pears, grapes, apricots, plums, kiwis, strawberries and other vegetables . “We try to have the product all year round and for that we have to go to the origins, depending on how the national and international production windows are opening, for example, we bring apples and pears from Washington and other fruits from California,” he said.

He indicated that although the United States is the main country where they import products, they also import from South America, mainly from Chile and Peru, and also from Italy and South Africa. The routes are through Mexicali and Nogales, as well as Manzanillo and Veracruz.

Grupo Tarahumara is in the process of building a new plant that will feature modern storage systems and advanced refrigeration . This new project will comprehensively improve cold chain management by integrating sustainable technologies, such as solar panels and automated processes, contributing to a reduction in the carbon footprint and operating costs in the long term.

In this sense, through CHEP , it provides innovative solutions to transform the management of your supply chain , reducing the risk of damage and loss of products, adapting to fluctuations in demand and improving the capacity to respond to interruptions.

Karla Morán pointed out that it is not only about preserving the temperature of the products, but also about ensuring that they arrive safely, and through the wooden pallets of this company, it is guaranteed that the merchandise is safe, unloading times are met, and sustainable packaging.

“We know that this is a big challenge because consumers are not willing to pay more for this type of packaging, but we have incorporated it and for us it has added value and is linked to our safety policy and also to environmental responsibility,” he said.

By 2025, he said, Grupo Tarahumara will work on distribution and logistics, but also on improving the automation of certain purchasing, marketing and inventory management processes, as well as incorporating more Artificial Intelligence, the collaboration of key partners and training to achieve sustained growth aimed at “offering services and products of the highest quality.”
