The insecurity in ground transportation in Mexico is alarming. To alleviate this situation, technology offers tangible solutions, according to Cristina Sánchez, Senior Manager of Pre-Sales Engineering at Samsara .

In the first six months of 2024, more than eight thousand cargo thefts were reported in Mexico. However, 87% of these incidents go undetected or unreported, which alarmingly increases the magnitude of the problem, as revealed by Sánchez during the conference ” The Impact of Technology and AI in Creating a Culture of Security ,” presented at The Logistics World Summit & Expo 2025.6

The specialist explained that 56% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product is linked to physical operational activities, such as transportation and logistics, making it essential to ensure their efficiency, sustainability, and safety.

According to Sánchez, the only way to do this in the face of a context of growing insecurity, shortage of operators, and rising logistics costs is through the strategic use of technology .

In his speech, he referred to the 12,099 road accidents recorded in the country in 2023. He said that 66% of these accidents were attributable to preventable causes , primarily driver distractions or recklessness , which represents an opportunity for concrete intervention.

In urban and suburban areas the situation is even more critical: more than 380,000 accidents were recorded during the same year, and in 96% of the cases it was concluded that they were preventable .

” What are we going to do about it? ” Sánchez asked, emphasizing that technology already makes it possible to detect this type of behavior and take action before it leads to an accident.

Among the solutions highlighted by Samsara are AI-powered dash cams , which not only record the road ahead but can also detect risky behaviors such as cell phone use, not wearing a seatbelt, or looking off the road. These cameras also identify external events such as lane invasion or potential head-on collisions.

In addition, Samsara promotes the use of personalized virtual training sessions , designed based on data obtained directly from the units. This way, each operator can receive specific feedback on their driving habits and learn specific areas for improvement, without having to physically attend a classroom.

“Every driver is different, and current technologies allow us to tailor training to individual needs,” Sánchez explained.

Sánchez shared several examples, with real-world figures, on the implementation of disruptive security technology:

Several companies in the freight transport sector have implemented cameras, telemetry, and a driver app in their vehicles , allowing them to reduce false positives in their safety protocols by 90% .

Companies saved more than 100 man-hours annually by eliminating manual processes after digitizing their workflows with Samsara.

Thanks to monitoring, companies have seen a 40% improvement in performance .

Additionally, in a recent Samsara study of more than 1,500 operational leaders worldwide , 100% of respondents reported positive benefits from implementing technology solutions in their fleets.

The most notable changes were a 45% improvement in safety indicatorsand a 42% increase in workforce productivity .

At the local level, the trend continues. Sánchez noted that at least 50% of operations leaders in Mexico are already adopting these types of technologies , as part of a necessary transformation in the industry.

The platform has also demonstrated its capacity for large-scale impact. According to its figures, in one year, Samsara prevented 200,000 road accidents, digitized 230 million workflows, and generated 10 billion data points.

Furthermore, the estimated return on investment for customers who adopt these solutions is approximately eight times the initial investment .

Sánchez acknowledged that one of the main challenges companies face is staff resistance to change , especially when monitoring elements such as cameras are introduced.

For this reason, Samsara proposes integrating training from the first day of joining the company and clearly communicating that the goal is not to monitor, but to protect, train, and retain talent.

“What we want is for drivers to feel supported. If they feel cared for, they’ll stay,” Sánchez said.

Increasing business productivity requires increased use of technology and the adoption of new tools of this type to improve operations and processes. However, there are some obstacles to implementing them, such as a lack of clarity in strategy, resistance to change, and a shortage of qualified personnel, according to Infor , a company specializing in the creation of cloud-based, industry-specific business management software.

According to the global study How to Achieve the Possible , conducted by Infor in 15 countries and covering seven industries and 3,600 participants , among the factors that are driving digital transformation are economic pressures, changing customer and consumer expectations, as well as a rapid evolution of new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation.

In the presentation, Luis Gustavo Peccicacco , Communications Manager at Infor, pointed out that there are two ways for a company to increase its productivity: hiring more people. He indicated that this is a complicated issue since half of graduates are not performing adequately enough to generate more value and products.

He pointed out that Mexico has a shortage of 1.3 million professionals , “which means that qualified professionals are needed, and these professionals are not available.”

In this regard, he emphasized that there is an 80% talent shortage in the transportation, logistics, and automotive sectors , while in information technology, it is 77% , so he considered that hiring more staff is not the best solution for increasing productivity.

“The other way is to make each of those existing workers able to produce more without bringing in more people,” Peccicacco pointed out, adding that the only possible solution to this is the implementation of technology. “However, there’s a problem with the technology, which we at Infor call the value gap.”

According to the analysis, 75% of executives expect to increase productivity by 20% or more in the next three to five years, although a study by McKinsey found that 30% of digital transformation processes, projects, and operations fail to deliver on their promises.

The main conclusion of this study is that 80% of organizations consider technology crucial to driving productivity gains. Furthermore, 78% plan to increase their investment in technology by at least 20% in the coming years, according to Infor.

“So, on the one hand, we have high expectations for increased productivity, and on the other, there are a large number of projects that don’t deliver on that promise, creating a value vacuum,” Peccicacco explained.

Given this scenario, and according to the Infor study, 83% of companies in Mexico expect to increase their investment in technology by 20% or more in the coming years, and 79% agree that success will depend on the use and adoption of new technological tools.

Among the analysis’ findings, it stands out that 76% of organizations in Mexico expect to achieve a productivity increase of more than 20% over the next three years.

The report identified four key activities that leading organizations are adopting to maintain high productivity: processes and systems, agility and future-readiness, data culture, and customer focus.

By prioritizing these activities, organizations can increase their overall productivity and achieve a competitive advantage by aligning their processes with customer needs and technological innovation opportunities.

Infor’s research showed that the most common errors in business digitalization often originate in key areas.

In this regard, he indicated that regarding strategy, there is a lack of clarity in objectives, a limited vision of transformation, and a neglect of the human factor. In implementation, the main obstacles are resistance to change, a lack of support from leaders, and unrealistic timelines for adopting new technologies.

Regarding technical errors, the incompatibility of legacy systems and a lack of technical qualifications are the main barriers. Furthermore, several errors arise from focusing solely on the customer, without considering other key aspects of the operation.

The exponential growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has generated an increase in the use of cloud communication channels, such as chatbots , which facilitate the operation of various industries, such as logistics and e-commerce, and which 75% of companies are willing to implement in the next three years, revealed the Sinch 2025 study: The future of business communication in Mexico .

The analysis, carried out by cloud communications developer Sinch , highlighted that the majority of companies that use chatbots do so through WhatsApp , according to 39% of respondents.

At the event, Adriana Sánchez , Sales Manager for Sinch Latin America, stated that this platform is followed by the company’s website with 24% , although 48% of companies have not yet integrated chatbots into their communication strategies.

Sanchez said that conversational tools such as chatbots are transforming the customer experience, and stressed that this technology is becoming an ally for companies by automating some specific tasks.

Another result of this exercise is that 40% of respondents mentioned that despite wanting to use AI chatbots , the lack of information on how to implement this tool makes them feel insecure.

In light of this, the manager pointed out that companies require clear rules to implement this digital tool.

Of the more than 80 companies surveyed, 11% considered costs to be a barrier to using this technology . As for the most used communication channels, WhatsApp leads this preference with 55% of those interviewed.

Email is another of the channels used by more companies to establish contact with their users with 51% , while social networks have 39% and call centers with 25 percent .

According to figures from the Swedish company, RCS (rich messaging) barely reached 1% of use, making it the least used, despite the fact that it has the capacity to verify brands and optimize processes. Despite this, it is expected that this channel will see an increase in its use . Meanwhile, SMS (text messaging) has a preponderance of 14 percent .

“It is important for companies to offer multiple options for communication channels with their customers, in order to ensure that they improve their ongoing customer service,” said Adriana Sánchez.

Among other data, the study showed that 44% of the companies surveyed have had a good experience in using chatbots , for 22% it has been excellent and for 9% it has been bad.

Although progress has been made in implementing these types of communication channels, 54% of the companies interviewed said they do not use AI chatbots to communicate with their customers, while 39% said they do.

According to an additional study conducted by Sinch on consumer perception, 65% of Mexicans prefer to interact with companies through automated channels such as chatbots, as they consider that these platforms offer faster and more precise responses than human interactions.

According to Mordor Intelligence , the chatbots market size is estimated at $7.01 billion (M) in 2024 and is expected to reach $20.81 billion by 2029, at a growth rate of 24.32% during the forecast period (2024-2029).

Furthermore, according to data from information technology research firm Gartner , it is estimated that by this year 85% of all customer interactions will take place without human intervention, due to the growing use of AI and chatbots in various sectors.
