Keith Creel, president and CEO of the railway company, highlighted that through its network and unique partnerships, they are providing a solid service as well as innovative solutions to the market.

“CPKC once again created profitable and sustainable growth in the third quarter, while navigating challenging macroeconomic conditions,” Creel said.

“We are maintaining a continued trend of differentiated performance in our automotive franchise with another record quarter. We strengthened our bulk cargo franchise with strong growth in both grains and potash, and had another strong quarter in intermodal growth, both domestic and international, which included a significant milestone we have discussed previously: the opening of Americold ’s new facility at our Kansas City terminal. This is the first of several facilities,” he stated.

The railway company saw a 3% increase in revenue, rising from 3.549 billion Canadian dollars to 3.661 billion Canadian dollars .

Mark Redd, executive vice president and chief operating officer, mentioned that in the third quarter there were improvements in terminal dwell time, speed improved by 1%, and train length and weight by 2% . “We saw CP’s legacy network operate at record levels of productivity and railcar speed, while KCS’s network reached its highest performance levels to date.”

“Looking ahead, we expect to have more than 70 additional locomotives by 2026, with enhanced support and an industry-leading growth outlook. Furthermore, we will improve the efficiency and reliability of this fleet,” he explained.

Keith Creel explained that there is strong operational momentum towards the end of the year to close out the period, so they expect gains of between 10% and 14% compared to last year .

“Our dedicated team of railmen across CPKC’s unparalleled network continues to do what we said we would do, driving growth safely and opening new markets while upholding our commitments to our stakeholders. Through strong execution of our strategy, focused on leveraging our presence in North America, we remain on track to meet our full-year 2025 guidance,” Creel added.

Regarding the potential merger between Union Pacific (UP)  and  Norfolk Southern Corporation (NSC) , he reiterated that “further consolidation is not necessary at this time and is not in the best interest of the industry. As we have stated before, we remain and will continue to be active participants throughout the regulatory process to ensure that the facts are known and understood.”

In that regard, he emphasized that “the proposed merger would result in a single railroad handling approximately 40% of U.S. rail freight traffic, representing overlap in key markets such as Chicago, Memphis, St. Louis, and New Orleans . This is not a simple end-to-end merger. A merger of this magnitude introduces unprecedented risk by concentrating much of the decision-making power of our national rail network, with undeniable implications across the entire supply chain.”

El cargo CPKC, with increased volume and revenue in the third quarter apareció primero en T21.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) of Mexico announced that refrigerated service will reach its terminal in Toluca by 2026, once the necessary facilities are in place.

“The idea is to expand to Toluca, which will be next year. We’ve partnered with Americold , we’ve already inaugurated the plant in Kansas City, and we’ve laid the cornerstone at the Port of Saint John. The third will be in Mexico, in the southern part of the country,” explained Oscar Del Cueto, president of CPKC Mexico.

He mentioned that the service currently only reaches Monterrey and San Luis Potosí , and will arrive at its facilities in the State of Mexico in the middle of next year.

He also announced that they hope to add new products to this service, such as avocados , which they have already tested, as well as potatoes produced in the country and exported to a U.S. company.

In an interview with the media, within the framework of the XXII ExpoRail , organized by the Mexican Association of Railways (AMF) , he recalled that they have already transported lettuce, berries, potatoes, animal protein and cookies.

Regarding the year-end, Del Cueto explained that positive numbers were recorded during the first half of the year , while declines were recorded in the third quarter in sectors such as steel and aluminum. However, he forecast a positive close to 2025, due to growth in grains, plastics, and white goods .

Meanwhile, as part of the 2025 investment plan, which totaled 2.738 billion pesos (mdp), various projects have been completed, such as the Celaya bypass, the third operational highway in San Luis Potosí, while the Salinas Victoria yard was completed, among others.

Del Cueto confirmed that, as representatives of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) and the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), they will participate in the review of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC) , as well as promote more expeditious trade, border crossings through CTPAT certifications, the Authorized Economic Operator, among others.

El cargo CPKC de México estimates that its refrigerated service will reach Toluca by 2026. apareció primero en T21.

Americold , a logistics, real estate and value-added services company with controlled temperature, inaugurated its new Import and Export Center in Kansas City, Missouri , with an investment of more than 120 million dollars, which will serve to initiate refrigerated service via train between Mexico and the United States.

Developed in partnership with Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) , the 335,000-square-foot facility will be key to the Mexico Midwest Express (MMX) rail service .

Key features include on-site USDA inspections to eliminate border delays ; a cargo capacity exceeding 50,000 pounds per container to reduce highway congestion; and a 300-mile service radius to support the regional flow of food.

In a statement, the firm noted that beyond the immediate region, the facility also serves as a strategic consolidation point for longer-distance shipments, including flows from Canada to Mexico , particularly for customers facing border inefficiencies or trucking capacity challenges.

“This is more than infrastructure; it’s a fully integrated solution that connects food producers to consumers faster and more efficiently. By combining our cold storage capabilities and food flow expertise with CPKC’s rail network, we’re creating a new North American cold chain that delivers real value to our customers. Simply put, we’ve found a better way to move food,” said George Chappelle, CEO of Americold.

This facility is part of a broader network of import and export centers the company is developing through strategic partnerships to support global trade routes and enable the rapid and seamless movement of food in North America and around the world.

“This grand opening marks the realization of a shared vision and what is now a growing strategic collaboration that brings new rail service products to market,” said Keith Creel, president and CEO of CPKC.

The project is expected to create nearly 190 new jobs and significantly improve regional and cross-border food logistics .

The project was supported by the Missouri Partnership, the City of Kansas City, the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City (EDCKC) , KC SmartPort, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri One Start, Evergy, and Spire.

El cargo Americold opens refrigerated facility in Kansas City apareció primero en T21.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) of Mexico announced that refrigerated service will begin next August with the Monterrey-Kansas City, San Luis Potosí-Kansas City, and a third route that was not revealed .

“We’re going to bring animal products and food from Kansas City to Mexico. The idea is to start with the MMX (Mexico West Express) train. Today we’re bringing 2,400 meters of rail, between 80 and 90 cars, and we’re going to load refrigerated cargo onto that train,” said Oscar Del Cueto, president of the railroad.

In an interview, he mentioned that they have already met with authorities from the National Service of Health, Safety and Agri-Food Quality (Senasica) , as well as with Julio Berdegué Sacristán, head of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) , in order to address the issues related to carrying out the movement of refrigerated goods.

“The document has already been sent to the United States to place the Senasica inspectors in Kansas, and Senasica has everything ready to have them. All that’s left is for the U.S. government to sign it, and it’s going very well,” he stated.

He specified that they estimate that this service will begin next August , in addition to the construction of the import and export center in Port Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, which will be ready in 2026, while in Kansas City the first cold storage facility will be inaugurated in that month.

Del Cueto recalled that they had already conducted tests for this type of service from Monterrey to the United States .

It’s worth noting that in 2023, CPKC and Americold Realty Trust established a strategic partnership to optimize temperature-controlled logistics across North America. As part of this agreement, Americold plans to invest between $500 million and $1 billion over the next five to 10 years in development projects with the railroad and its other strategic partner, DP World .

Meanwhile, CPKC added 1,000 new 53-foot combined transport refrigerated containers to its network, doubling its existing fleet and providing more shipping options to customers using the Mexico Oeste Express (MMX) combined transport service.

MMX is North America’s first single-line rail service serving refrigerated freight shippers from the Midwest to Mexico, a market currently served by trucks.

Regarding a possible impact from the imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum, Del Cueto ruled out any impact; they are even waiting for the Mexican government to announce what actions will be taken in this regard.

“We had noticed that they were keeping the cost in Mexico, while exports continued. Remember, we have a trade imbalance with the United States; there are more imports, but I think there should be an adjustment in tariffs, and it’s too early to say whether there will be an impact on manufacturing (of railroad equipment). President Trump’s idea of ​​creating these tariffs in the United States is to protect the industry. I think there will be resolutions soon; we’ll have to wait and see what the Mexican government says,” he emphasized.

He reiterated that the company had a good quarter despite the initial tariff actions ; however, they are currently seeking to move merchandise from Canada to Mexico and vice versa, and to use the United States as a bridge to avoid tariffs. In this regard, he stated that they are already experiencing volume growth in LP gas (liquefied petroleum gas), grains, and plastics.

Likewise, he explained that after a review and new designs for the route, the Mexico-Querétaro passenger train would only be using nine kilometers (km) of its tracks; however, how it would operate at that point, which is already close to Querétaro, has not yet been analyzed.

“New designs were made, there were different proposals where a different construction could be done so as not to affect the charging infrastructure, and the goal of the president (Claudia Sheinbaum) and the regulatory agency is to avoid using our infrastructure and build new ones, and that is being achieved,” he explained.

The Rail Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) stated a few weeks ago that  passenger trains will run on dedicated tracks , although there are approximately five kilometers of track that are “extremely difficult” due to their topography, so a mixed operation would be carried out.

Keith Creel, president and CEO of CPKC, said during his participation in Wolfe Research’s 2025 Global Transportation and Industry Conference that they will move frozen meats and vegetables between the three countries .

“It’s a completely new product in the rail space, where we’re transporting meat from the United States to Mexico and vegetables from Mexico to the United States and Canada,” he explained.

He also noted that a facility for these types of products was built in Salinas Victoria, Mexico, and has already been approved by the Mexican government.

It is worth remembering that Americold began construction of this storage space in Kansas City, Missouri , with an investment of 127 million dollars (mdd) , has 335 thousand square feet and will support CPKC’s Mexico Midwest Express (MMX) service .

Also, as part of this service, the railroad added 1,000 new 53-foot refrigerated intermodal containers to its network , offering more shipping options to customers using the MMX. These units ensure that products requiring temperature protection are transported safely in a fast, reliable, and fuel-efficient service that provides alternatives and increased competition to North American supply chains.

The two companies established a strategic collaboration in June 2023 to optimize temperature-controlled logistics in North America.

Americold plans to invest between $500 million and $1 billion over the next five to 10 years in development projects with CPKC and its other strategic partner, DP World .

Regarding passenger rail projects in Mexico, Keith Creel indicated that with the government’s decision to run these trains on separate, parallel lines, freight operations will continue.

“They’re going to build a dedicated passenger line so we don’t have to mix it with freight transport, so we can continue operating freight trains,” he emphasized.

He commented that Mexican authorities see benefits in not only getting people off the roads and onto rail, but also trucks, “which is good for our industry.”
