The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) issued an official response to the executive orders of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) , highlighting that 11 scheduled routes from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and Benito Juárez International Airport (AICM) to the United States will be canceled immediately .

In its statement, the SICT specified that the suspension of two routes currently operating from AIFA will take effect on November 7, 2025 , and that the executive order temporarily prohibits applications for new routes or increased frequencies from AIFA and AICM to U.S. territory, a measure that will remain in effect until further notice.

Regarding a second order issued by the DOT, which contemplates the possible prohibition of permits for the transport of combined cargo on passenger flights between the AICM and the United States, specific deadlines have been established for interested parties to present their arguments .

Comments will be allowed 14 days from the date of issue, with a deadline of November 11, 2025, and for replies: an additional 7 days, with a deadline of November 18, 2025.

If the order is confirmed as final, the ban would come into effect 108 business days after the date of the final decision .

During Wednesday’s morning press conference, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum rejected the DOT’s decision to cancel 13 routes operated by Mexican airlines to the United States, calling the measure “lacking in justification.” She also defended the transfer of cargo operations from Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), considering it a “sovereign decision.”
