The automaker celebrated the </span><strong><span dir="auto">17th edition of its National Technical Skills Competition</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , an event that brought together the top specialists from its dealer network and will determine the Mexican representatives for the world finals in Japan.</span></p>
<p data-start="687" data-end="1093"><span dir="auto">The process brought together more than </span><strong><span dir="auto">124 technicians from different regions of the country</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , who participated in theoretical evaluations and specialized training through the brand&#8217;s </span><em><span dir="auto">i-learning</span></em><span dir="auto"> platform . From that group, 12 finalists reached the national stage held at the Isuzu Training Center, located at the SKD plant in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">The Elite Service Team competition brought together seven teams who showcased their technical skills and knowledge of service strategies. </span><strong><span dir="auto">Five teams represented dealerships in Mexico, along with one from Colombia and one from Honduras.</span></strong></p>

<p><span dir="auto">One aspect that Alvarenga highlighted is that the dealer network has created excellent working conditions. “Together with the network, we have worked to provide increasingly better working conditions, optimized bays, 5S standards (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and discipline), restrooms, cafeterias, and all the infrastructure needed for them to do their jobs in the best possible way,” he added.</span></p>

<p data-start="166" data-end="471"><span dir="auto">Sales </span><strong><span dir="auto">of heavy vehicles</span></strong><span dir="auto"> continue to show no solid recovery, while some carriers postpone renewal decisions due to economic and political uncertainty, distributors are beginning to concentrate efforts on areas such as maintenance, spare parts and field service, commented Pablo Swaine, general director of </span><a href="https://www.camionespeciales.com/"><span dir="auto">Special Trucks</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p data-start="737" data-end="1132"><span dir="auto">Industry figures reflect the current challenges facing the heavy vehicle market. According to the </span><a href="https://www.amda.mx/"><span dir="auto">Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA)</span></a><span dir="auto"> , retail sales of heavy vehicles experienced a year-on-year decline of 28.8% between January and April 2026, with 10,038 units sold. Furthermore, April of this year marked the fourth consecutive month of negative growth for the sector.</span></p>
<p data-start="1137" data-end="1359" data-is-last-node=""><span dir="auto">For its part, the  </span><a href="https://www.anpact.com.mx/"><span dir="auto">National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor-Trailer Producers (ANPACT)</span></a><span dir="auto"> reported that, during the period January-April 2026, wholesale sales decreased by 10.6%, while production fell by 22% and exports by 21.5%.</span></p>
<p data-start="473" data-end="659"><span dir="auto">In this context, the company continues to invest in new facilities and in </span><strong><span dir="auto">strengthening its </span></strong><strong><span dir="auto">after-sales</span></strong><span dir="auto"> operations , despite acknowledging that the market is still going through a difficult period.</span></p>
<blockquote>
<p data-start="661" data-end="830"><span dir="auto">“Last year we were down 37%. So far this year we&#8217;re down 16%,” Pablo Swaine noted. He acknowledged that the market is still going through a period of caution regarding fleet renewal, although he is confident that activity will improve in the coming months.</span></p>
</blockquote>
<p data-start="1137" data-end="1359" data-is-last-node=""><span dir="auto">The company is currently working on the </span><strong><span dir="auto">renovation of its Vallejo facilities and the image update of the Cuautitlán branch</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , projects that are progressing while the market for new units continues to show weakness.</span></p>
<p data-start="1102" data-end="1306"><span dir="auto">According to Swaine, the environment has led many carriers to limit purchases to only the essentials and extend </span><strong><span dir="auto">fleet renewal cycles</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p data-start="1308" data-end="1484"><span dir="auto">In response, the company is primarily seeking to strengthen its </span><strong><span dir="auto">after-sales</span></strong><span dir="auto"> business , a segment that has become increasingly important for commercial vehicle distributors.</span></p>

<p data-start="1486" data-end="1642"><span dir="auto">“The only way to have a long-term relationship with the customer is if I provide good after-sales service,” he stressed.</span></p>
</blockquote>
<p data-start="1644" data-end="1966"><span dir="auto">Currently, the company operates </span><strong><span dir="auto">eight mobile workshops and two roadside assistance units to perform preventive and corrective maintenance, as well as off-site repairs</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . In addition to the metropolitan area, its services extend to states such as Querétaro, Puebla, Hidalgo, Morelos, and the State of Mexico.</span></p>
<p data-start="1968" data-end="2189"><span dir="auto">The executive explained that the customer service approach has also changed compared to previous years, when customers went directly to dealerships to resolve any service or repair issues. “Today, we come to the customer,” he stated.</span></p>
<p data-start="2279" data-end="2506"><span dir="auto">The operation also incorporates </span><strong><span dir="auto">telemetry and remote diagnostic tools</span></strong><span dir="auto"> that allow faults to be identified before reaching the unit and the necessary spare parts to be prepared in advance.</span></p>
<p data-start="2508" data-end="2742"><span dir="auto">Although he acknowledged that carriers already use monitoring and security technologies, Swaine noted that there is still room to leverage them more broadly within operations.</span></p>
<p data-start="215" data-end="553"><span dir="auto">The company&#8217;s first stage was marked by the vision of </span><strong><span dir="auto">Desmond J. Swaine</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , who championed the development of trucking in Mexico from scratch.</span></p>
<p data-start="215" data-end="553"><span dir="auto">Subsequently, </span><strong><span dir="auto">Roberto “Bob” Swaine</span></strong><span dir="auto"> spearheaded the growth and professionalization of the operation, strengthening internal processes and consolidating the name within the industry.</span></p>

<p data-start="436" data-end="690"><span dir="auto">The changeover takes place in an environment where the network faces a more competitive market, with pressure on inventories, changes in commercial dynamics and limitations in some segments such as the government sector, which has forced a rethinking of the operational strategy.</span></p>
<p data-start="692" data-end="1005"><span dir="auto">With a national presence through </span><strong><span dir="auto">51 distributors grouped into 11 business groups</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , the network will seek to reinforce its main differentiator: the ability to offer a comprehensive solution beyond the sale of units, with emphasis on after-sales service, the availability of spare parts and speed in service.</span></p>

<p data-start="1007" data-end="1263"><span dir="auto">“We have to build our competitive advantage as a network,” Rivera said in an interview with T21. He emphasized that integration between the plant, finance, and distributors will be key to executing an effective strategy.</span></p>

<p data-start="1558" data-end="1858"><span dir="auto">Added to this is an environment where </span><strong><span dir="auto">marketing faces new challenges</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , from participation in public tenders —where the network has had less presence— to the need to offer more competitive conditions compared to other market players.</span></p>
<p data-start="1860" data-end="2094"><span dir="auto">Another relevant front is the used car market, where the importation of approximately </span><strong><span dir="auto">33,000 units per year</span></strong><span dir="auto"> puts pressure on prices and complicates the vehicle fleet renewal process.</span></p>
<p data-start="2096" data-end="2454"><span dir="auto">Given this scenario, the strategy also includes </span><strong><span dir="auto">promoting digital tools</span></strong><span dir="auto"> to improve service efficiency, from automated spare parts systems to more accurate maintenance diagnostics, with the aim of reducing response times and increasing customer responsiveness.</span></p>
<blockquote>
<p data-start="2456" data-end="2684"><span dir="auto">In financial terms, the network remains stable, although in an environment that demands finer decisions in “pricing and financing”, particularly given lower liquidity in the market, Rivera explained.</span></p>
</blockquote>
<p data-start="2686" data-end="2941"><span dir="auto">With a network that generates more than 40,000 jobs in the country, the new leadership will seek to consolidate internal integration as a basis to strengthen its positioning and respond to current market conditions.</span></p>

<p data-start="2561" data-end="2917"><span dir="auto">This technical approach is complemented by the plant&#8217;s </span><strong><span dir="auto">operational vision</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . &#8220;It&#8217;s a much more advanced process&#8230; with specialized tools, digitized equipment, and access to engineering,&#8221; he noted.</span></p>
<p data-start="2919" data-end="3110"><span dir="auto">The overall objective is clear: </span><strong><span dir="auto">to ensure that the components not only return to operation, but do so under controlled and measurable conditions</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , aligned with manufacturer standards, he pointed out.</span></p>
<p data-start="3112" data-end="3342" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span dir="auto">Thus, </span><strong><span dir="auto">remanufacturing</span></strong><span dir="auto"> ceases to be a corrective process and becomes an operation based on data, precision, and technology, in a sector where every millimeter can translate into reliability… or risk along the route.</span></p>
<h4 data-start="3112" data-end="3342"><strong><span dir="auto">Inclusion and talent: the backbone of the operation</span></strong></h4>
<p data-start="74" data-end="359"><span dir="auto">The operation also incorporates an inclusive approach within its structure. Of a workforce of nearly 400 employees, over </span><strong><span dir="auto">30% of the operational staff are women</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , while around 10% are deaf.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">The </span><strong><span dir="auto">bus market in Mexico</span></strong><span dir="auto"> still faces a cautious environment after the contraction observed in 2025, although companies in the sector maintain growth expectations in different mobility segments.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The industry experienced a significant decline last year compared to 2024, a situation that affected all market participants and whose outlook remains unchanged in 2026. This was stated by Raúl García, operations director of </span><a href="https://autobusesmercedesbenz.com.mx/"><span dir="auto">Mercedes-Benz Buses</span></a><span dir="auto"> , when referring to the current context of this industry.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Market figures support this outlook. According to the </span><a href="https://www.anpact.com.mx/"><span dir="auto">National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor-Trailer Manufacturers (ANPACT)</span></a><span dir="auto"> , 4,813 buses were sold wholesale </span><strong><span dir="auto">in Mexico during 2025, a 53% decrease compared to the 10,231 units registered in 2024</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , confirming the contractionary environment shown by this segment.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">“2025 was a complicated year, with a significant overall contraction in the market. Compared to 2024, there was a major drop that impacted all players,” García explained.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">So far in 2026, the bus segment has maintained a moderate downward trend. According to figures from ANPACT, </span><strong data-start="665" data-end="692"><span dir="auto">305 buses were sold wholesale in the country in February, a 34.8% drop compared to the 468 units sold in the same month of 2025.</span></strong><span dir="auto"> In the January-February period of 2026, sales totaled 527 units, 27% less than those sold during the same period of the previous year.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Given this scenario, the brand&#8217;s strategy focuses on </span><strong><span dir="auto">offering solutions for different mobility segments</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , from smaller capacity units for urban transport to long-distance buses and articulated units.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to García, the company&#8217;s portfolio includes buses for around 28 passengers up to intercity units with a capacity of between 58 and 60 users, as well as articulated vehicles that exceed 100 passengers.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In terms of technology, one of the main focuses is </span><strong><span dir="auto">safety for operators and passengers</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . High-end buses integrate assistance systems that include lane departure warning, assisted braking, and blind spot monitoring—tools designed to help the driver stay focused on the road.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Another key pillar for the brand is </span><strong><span dir="auto">after-sales service</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . García emphasized that having a broad service network and constant availability is crucial to supporting the operations of transport companies.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">“We have the largest network in Mexico and 24/7 after-sales service. This allows us to be present with our customers,” he emphasized.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile, the company continues to advance its </span><strong><span dir="auto">transition to cleaner technologies</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . Among its recent innovations is a smaller electric bus, designed to adapt to cities with stricter operational requirements or specific mobility needs.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Furthermore, the vehicle range incorporates </span><strong><span dir="auto">engines compliant with Euro VI standards</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , a technology that significantly reduces polluting emissions compared to previous generations.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">&#8220;It&#8217;s almost 100 times the difference between the pollution of an EPA 94 versus what Euro 6 is,&#8221; he said.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">García considered that one of the main </span><strong><span dir="auto">challenges for the sector</span></strong><span dir="auto"> will be to generate conditions that give certainty to investment, particularly in segments such as long-distance transport, urban transport and the transport of personnel.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In this context, he argued that the growth of cities, industrial expansion, and tourism development in the country maintain a potential demand for passenger transport.</span></p>
<blockquote><p><span dir="auto">“We are in the decade of the bus. By 2030 we will see a </span><em><span dir="auto">boom</span></em><span dir="auto"> and growth that is already happening in many countries, and Mexico is no exception,” he stated.</span></p></blockquote>
<p><span dir="auto">In commercial terms, the company expects to maintain a similar performance to last year in 2026 and continue as the market leader.</span></p>
