Vehicle production in Mexico totaled 343,520 units in March 2026, representing a 2.5% increase compared to the same month in 2025, when 335,065 cars were manufactured, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported this Thursday .

In turn, in the period January-March 2026,  969,294 cars were manufactured , a growth of 0.5% compared to the same cycle of the previous year, according to the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL).

In total,  light trucks accounted for 80%  of the total produced , with 775,717 units; the remainder corresponded to automobiles.

In the first quarter, the brands that stood out in their production in Mexican plants were Volkswagen with an increase of 53.8%, adding 99,706 units compared to 64,830 in the same cycle of 2025.

Honda also showed good results in terms of its manufacturing with an increase of 12.7% in the January-March period of 2026, totaling 45,555 units over the 40,404 vehicles produced in the same period last year.

Similarly,  KIA recorded positive figures in its production with an increase of 11.3%, adding 76,300 units in the first quarter of the year compared to the same cycle in 2025, when it manufactured 68,560 vehicles.

Exports accelerate

Exports also registered positive figures during March 2026. In this regard,  the shipment abroad of light vehicles manufactured in Mexico was 310,205 units, which meant a growth of 4.2%  compared to the same month of 2025.

Meanwhile, 795,631 vehicles were exported between January and March of this year, a 2.5% increase compared to the same period last year. The United States was the main destination for light vehicle exports, accounting for 75.8%, or 602,887 units. Canada followed  with 97,801 vehicles, representing 12.3% of exports.

Among the brands that registered the highest exports during the first quarter were Volkswagen, with a 70.7% increase compared to the same period in 2015, totaling 81,535 units. Kia also saw a significant increase, with 13%, shipping 58,679 vehicles abroad. General Motors showed a 4.7% increase, totaling 195,214 exported units.

With these results, the Mexican automotive industry is beginning to show signs of recovery after a challenging 2025, framed by a complicated trade environment with tariff increases and restrictive measures by the United States.

Despite this, the United States remains the main buyer of cars manufactured in Mexico , with Canada in second place, reflecting the trade integration between the three countries that make up the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) .

In March 2026, new vehicle sales in the Mexican market totaled 131,548 units, representing a 2.4% increase compared to the same month in 2025, when 128,434 cars were sold in the country, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

The first quarter of the year also showed a positive trend, with the sale of 381,632 vehicles, an increase of 3.7% compared to the same period in 2025, in which 367,989 units were sold.

The cumulative figure represented the best result for a January-March period in the last nine years, according to statistics from the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL) .

According to the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA)  and the  Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) , the brands that stood out in vehicle sales during the January-March 2026 cycle were  Nissan  with a 17.6% share,  General Motors  with 13.2%,  Volkswagen  with 11.1%,  Toyota with 7.8% and  KIA  with 7.2 percent.

In the third month of the year, Mitsubishi  reported a 37.4% increase in its sales compared to March 2025, Hyundai advanced 10.6%, Volkswagen accelerated 3.7% and Ford  increased 2.2 percent.

Chinese brands ,  which continue to gain ground in the Mexican market, showed mixed performance during the period. JAC  increased its sales by 1.2% in March 2026 compared to the same month in 2025,  MG Motor  saw a 28.6% increase, Foton experienced a 0.9% decrease, and Changan rose by 57.6%.

March’s vehicle sales figures showed a rebound in annual sales, after having suffered a 0.3% drop last February.

The positive performance of the national automotive industry in the third month of the year could signify a slight recovery in the Mexican economy.

It also reflects the strength of this sector in a volatile environment framed by tariff uncertainty and the constant change of trade policies in the world.

El cargo New vehicle sales resume their high sales trend in March apareció primero en T21.

Vehicle production in Mexico totaled 303,980 units in January 2026, representing a 2.7% drop  compared to the same month in 2025, when 312,257 cars were manufactured in the country, the  National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported on Tuesday .

According to the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL), of the total manufactured in the first month of the year, light trucks represented 78.5%, with 238,495 units , while the rest corresponded to the manufacture of automobiles, with 65,485.

Last January, the brands that stood out in their production in Mexican plants were Volkswagen with an increase of  66.4%,  adding 34,580 units compared to 20,780 in the same cycle of 2025.

General Motors also showed good results in terms of its manufacturing, with a 21.9% increase in the first month of this year with 73,260 units compared to the 60,113 vehicles produced in the same period last year.

Similarly,  Ford recorded positive figures in its production with an increase of 8.3%, totaling 35,292 units  in January 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, when it manufactured 32,591 vehicles.

Exports are progressing

Export trends moved in the opposite direction to vehicle production during the first month of 2026. Specifically, shipments of light vehicles manufactured in Mexico to other countries in January totaled 224,528 units, representing a 2.3% increase  compared to the same month in 2025.

During the period,  the United States was the main destination for light vehicle exports with 73.2% , totaling 164,296 units, followed by  Canada  with 30,155 cars, which represented 13.4% of shipments abroad.

Among the brands with the highest exports in the first month of this year was General Motors, with a 19.8% increase compared to the same period in 2015, totaling 58,457 vehicles. KIA followed with a 15% increase, shipping 19,968 units abroad during that period.

According to the results of the first month of the Mexican automotive industry, the United States remains the main buyer of vehicles manufactured in Mexico, despite the fact that the president of the northern neighbor, Donald Trump, has reiterated that he does not want cars that are manufactured in Mexico.

Meanwhile, Canada is the second largest destination for Mexican vehicle exports, reflecting the level of integration in the automotive sector of the trading partners of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) .

The Mexican automotive industry started 2026 with its foot on the gas, showing a solid performance in the sale of new units in the domestic market, according to figures released this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In January of this year, vehicle sales in Mexico totaled 131,472 units , representing an 8.7% increase compared to the same month in 2025, when 120,953 cars were sold in the country.

This is the best result for a January in the last nine years, according to data from the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL) .

According to the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA)  and the  Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) , the brands that stood out in vehicle sales in January 2026 were Nissan  with 18.8% market share,  General Motors  with 12.4%,  Volkswagen  with 10.7%,  Toyota  with 8.9%, and  KIA  with 6.9%.

Conversely, in the first month of the year, Renault reported a decrease in its placements of 12.5% ​​compared to 2025, Ford fell 5.2%, Volkswagen slowed 5% and Suzuki 1.7 percent.

Furthermore, the report highlighted the performance of Chinese brands , which continue to gain ground in the Mexican market. JAC registered a 3.2% increase in sales in January 2026 compared to 2025, MG Motor saw a 55% increase, and Geely experienced a 245.3% increase.

The positive momentum of the Mexican automotive sector shown in December 2025 in terms of vehicle sales continued into January 2026, reflecting the strength of this industry in a volatile environment framed by tariff uncertainty.

It is worth remembering that a total of 1,524,583 units were sold throughout 2025 , which meant an increase of 1.3% compared to the accumulated total in the same period of 2024, according to data from Inegi.

According to analysts, this year the Mexican economy and private consumption will develop in a cautious environment, which could affect vehicle purchases in the domestic market, coupled with external pressures such as protectionist trade policies worldwide.

El cargo On a roll! Light vehicle sales have their best January since 2017 apareció primero en T21.

Amid uncertainty over US tariff policy, vehicle production in Mexico, as well as exports, slowed down during 2025 compared to 2024, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) announced this Friday .

During the period January-December of last year, three million 953 thousand 494 units were produced , which represented a decrease of 0.9% compared to the same cycle of 2024, when three million 989 thousand 483 vehicles were manufactured, according to the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL).

During that period, light trucks accounted for 77.2%, with  3,052,163 units manufactured in Mexican plants ; the remainder (22.8%) corresponded to the production of automobiles, with 901,331 units.

When reviewing the brands with the highest growth, in 2025, Toyota stood out in its production with an increase of 26.6%, adding 310,152 units compared to 245,007 in 2024.

Ford followed  , with a 7.9% increase, reaching 417,280 units manufactured last year. KIA registered a 6.4%  increase   in the 2025 cumulative total, with 288,100 vehicles produced.

Meanwhile, in December 2025, car manufacturing in Mexico was 243,961 units , an increase of 8.5% compared to the same month in 2024, when 224,943 vehicles were manufactured.

Exports decline

Vehicle exports suffered from the tariff effects imposed by the United States, as shipments of units manufactured in Mexico abroad fell 2.7% compared to 2024, with three million 385 thousand 785 vehicles.

In January-December of last year,  the United States was the main destination for light vehicle exports, with 78.4%, or 2,653,897 units; followed by Canada , with 376,251 units, which represented 11.1% of shipments abroad.

Among the brands that registered the highest exports during 2025 were Toyota, with a 30.1% increase compared to 2024, totaling 318,812 vehicles. Ford followed, with an 11.4% increase, exporting 423,283 cars, and KIA, with a 5.4% increase, totaling 217,440 exported cars.

In the last month of 2025, vehicle exports totaled 227,262 cars , a decrease of 14.5% compared to 2024, when 265,954 units were shipped abroad.

The decline recorded in 2025 in terms of vehicle production and exports shows an adjustment of both indicators in a context marked by trade uncertainty, changes in demand and consumption, as well as the protectionist policy of the United States, which has moved the conditions of world trade.

It also reflects a less dynamic end to 2025 compared to the performance that the Mexican automotive industry maintained in 2024.

According to data from the Administrative Registry of the Automotive Industry of Light Vehicles (RAIAVL) , released this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) , in the January-December period the placement of automobiles also accelerated, totaling 1,524,583 units sold , an increase of 1.3% compared to the accumulated in the same period of 2024.

According to data from Inegi, this is the third best January-December cycle in the last 10 years in terms of accumulated vehicle sales in Mexico.

Nissan  with 18% market share, General Motors with 13%, Volkswagen with 11.3%, Toyota with 8.3%, and KIA with 7.3%; were the brands that showed the best performance in vehicle sales during the 12 months of last year, according to the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA)  and the  Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) .

Conversely, in the last month of 2025, Ford reported a 3.7% decrease in its sales, Honda had a 5.3% drop, JAC registered a 12.7% decrease, and Volkswagen slowed by 4%, according to the report from these organizations.

The strong finish to 2025 in terms of sales demonstrates the resilience of the Mexican automotive sector, which overcame difficulties throughout last year, such as the imposition of tariffs by the United States.

Seasonal factors, such as the end-of-year celebrations, influenced the increase in the sale of new vehicles in the domestic market, which boosted the positive figures of this industry in a commercial environment marked by instability and restrictive policies in the world.
