In the last decade (2016-2025), the tractor-trailer fleet of the federal trucking industry grew 1.69 times and the trailer fleet 1.76 times. During the same period, the companies that make up the Top 100 Trucking Companies® saw increases of 1.74 times in tractor-trailers and 1.79 times in trailers. However, Grupo MexAmerik achieved even greater growth, tripling its tractor-trailer fleet and increasing its trailer fleet 2.8 times.

According to information from T21 Business Intelligence , the company went from 187 tractor-trailers and 349 trailers in 2016 to 566 tractor-trailers and 981 trailers in 2025. This performance allowed it to rank 32nd in the Top 100 of Autotransporte® 2025 .

Beyond operational growth, the company has driven an institutionalization process aimed at strengthening its corporate governance and professionalizing the organization. For Pablo Ocampo, CEO of Grupo MexAmerik , the recent acquisition of Transportes VIM is part of that long-term strategy.

Ocampo indicated that this growth is the result of a strategy based on constant reinvestment, continuous improvement, and a vision of being better.

“What has defined MexAmerik is consistency, perseverance, always reinvesting in the company and constantly striving to be better,” he stated.

The executive pointed out that the company’s evolution has not been guided by a specific size goal, but by the constant pursuit of strengthening its operational capabilities and generating value for its customers.

“Growth is a consequence of doing things well. The goal has never been to grow and be bigger; it has always been to try to do things well and enjoy the process,” he emphasized.

He asserted that the group’s strategy remains unchanged despite economic uncertainty and shifts in trade dynamics between Mexico and the United States.

“We are investing in the country and the industry. We believe in what we are doing and we are convinced that when you strive to continuously improve and do things right, the results will come,” he said.

Under that vision, Grupo MexAmerik recently finalized the incorporation of Transportes VIM, an operation that will allow it to add capabilities in specialized cargo, refrigerated transport, containers and construction.

For Ocampo, the integration is part of a diversification strategy that seeks to expand the group’s service offerings and reduce dependence on specific industries, taking advantage of opportunities in different market segments.

At the same time, the company continues to strengthen MexAmerik USA , an operation that recently celebrated its second anniversary and is part of its commitment to offering door-to-door services within the United States.

“Being able to provide these door-to-door services within the United States has been quite beneficial for us, and we want to continue learning and growing as an organization, but with firm steps,” he emphasized.

Currently, the operation in the United States focuses on dry van services for various industries, a segment that the company considers to have growth potential within its cross-border strategy.

The incorporation of VIM and the strengthening of MexAmerik USA are part of a long-term vision that also contemplates continuing to move towards the goal of reaching one thousand motor units.

Today, in addition to the 566 units reported in the Top 100 of Autotransporte® 2025, the integration of VIM raises the group’s combined capacity to nearly 800 units , consolidating a platform with greater operational reach and presence in various market segments.

In parallel, Grupo MexAmerik maintains an institutionalization process aimed at strengthening its corporate governance, through the creation of shared strategic areas and greater coordination among the companies that make up the group.

The next challenge for Grupo MexAmerik will be to turn the integration into a platform for sustainable growth, leveraging the potential of VIM and MexAmerik USA without losing the focus that, according to Ocampo, has guided the company for three decades: doing things right rather than growing for the sake of growth.

Global shipping could be on the cusp of one of the most significant corporate moves in recent years. German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has confirmed it is in advanced negotiations to acquire all the shares of Israeli company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. , a deal that, if finalized, would reshape the competitive landscape of the sector and further solidify the consolidation process that has characterized the industry since the pandemic.

In an official statement to the market, Hapag-Lloyd’s Board of Directors was explicit about the scope of the talks, noting that it “is in advanced negotiations for the possible acquisition of all shares of its Israeli competitor, Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. (‘ZIM’).” This confirmation not only validates rumors circulating since late 2025 but also positions the German company at the center of a deal that could strengthen its presence on strategic routes , particularly those linked to transpacific trade and emerging corridors resulting from nearshoring .

However, the shipping company itself clarified the preliminary nature of the talks, noting that “to date, no binding agreements have been signed,” a key point reflecting the complexity of a transaction of this magnitude. The deal depends not only on the corporate will of both companies but also on an institutional and regulatory framework involving multiple stakeholders. In this regard, Hapag-Lloyd explained that “the necessary approvals for the transaction have not yet been granted by the Company’s Board of Directors and Supervisory Board, as well as by the relevant corporate bodies of the contractual counterparties.”

One of the most sensitive elements of the process is the involvement of the State of Israel, which retains special rights over ZIM since its privatization. The German shipping company acknowledged that “the consent of the State of Israel is required, based on its special rights established in ZIM’s statutes,” making this operation not only a business negotiation but also a process with institutional implications. To address this point, Hapag-Lloyd confirmed that “negotiations with FIMI Opportunity Funds, an Israeli financial investor, to assume the obligations arising from these special rights are at a very advanced stage,” a sign that the structural component of the transaction is being carefully crafted to ensure its viability.

The final closing, however, will depend on a series of additional authorizations that reflect the global reach of both companies. The German shipping company emphasized that “closing the transaction would require additional regulatory approvals and the consent of ZIM’s shareholders,” anticipating a process that could extend over several months.

Beyond its financial implications, the potential acquisition of ZIM represents a strategic move that aligns with a broader trend of consolidation in the shipping industry, where major carriers seek to strengthen their operational scale, optimize their networks, and ensure their competitiveness in an environment characterized by volatile demand, tariff pressures, and the redefinition of global supply chains. For Hapag-Lloyd, this transaction could mean not only increased capacity but also an expansion of its strategic reach in key markets , at a time when network control has become the sector’s primary competitive asset.

Mexican company Mimpo Global Logistics has taken a key step in its internationalization strategy with the acquisition of Iberoforwarders , a move that marks its first inorganic operation in Spain since it entered that market in 2019. The decision is not minor: with it, the company seeks to consolidate its presence in a country that functions as an entry and exit gateway for trade flows between Europe and America, an area where competition is measured by operational capabilities, technological integration and geographic reach.

The goal is ambitious. With the integration of Iberoforwarders, Mimpo expects to achieve combined revenues of €40 million by 2025 , supported by a team of more than 60 professionals. Beyond the figure, the acquisition allows it to expand its operating capacity in a particularly sensitive segment: international maritime transport, which constitutes the core of both companies’ business.

The emphasis is on export and import traffic between Europe, Latin America, and the United States, strategic routes where Mimpo seeks to deepen its specialization. Similarly, the operation targets high-value-added vertical sectors such as industrial, commercial, and mass consumption, reflecting a deliberate attempt to gain ground in areas where margins are more competitive and integrated service makes the difference.

On the operational front, the merger provides a 3,000 m² warehouse equipped as a bonded warehouse , as well as national and international land transport services and specific solutions for the Canary Islands. This diversification provides Mimpo with broader coverage without losing focus on its core business lines: maritime, air, and land. This move balances expansion with specialization in a market that increasingly demands greater efficiency and traceability.

The management’s statement underscores this strategic shift. “This merger responds to a very clear strategy: to consolidate our activity in Spain and strengthen our position as a leading logistics operator in trade flows between the Americas and Europe. In just six years, we have built a solid and recognized brand, and now we are laying the foundations for a new, more ambitious and specialized phase of growth,” said Carlos Delfín, global CEO of Mimpo Global Logistics.

For his part, David Soto, Managing Director for Spain, highlighted the scope of the transaction: “This is a key strategic step for Mimpo Global Logistics in Spain. This move allows us to scale both in terms of capabilities and human resources, and positions us to continue growing in highly demanding logistics sectors , with a focus on maritime transport and integrated solutions for our clients.”

On Iberoforwarders’ side, the narrative is consistent. “Both companies share a very aligned vision of the business, which will facilitate a rapid and highly potential integration. This transaction offers us new growth opportunities and will be very beneficial for our clients ,” stated Jordi Esteve, CEO of the acquired firm.

The team integration process will begin shortly, focusing on operational synergies. The priority will be maritime transport with the Americas, where both companies have consolidated experience and prior business relationships. At this point, the continued presence of Iberoforwarders’ founding partners, including its CEO and Commercial Director Josep Miquel Esteve, will be key to ensuring continuity and market knowledge in this new phase.

Beyond the transaction itself, the operation reflects how Latin American logistics operators are seeking to gain a stronger foothold in Europe. For Mimpo, with more than 25 years of experience in international trade and a presence in Mexico, Spain, the United States, and Costa Rica, this acquisition represents the opportunity to deepen its specialization in the Americas-Europe connection, especially the Mexico-Spain link, which has been its strongest selling point.

The challenge now will be to capitalize on this strengthened presence in a highly competitive environment, where logistics margins are under pressure and digitalization imposes new rules of the game. The acquisition of Iberoforwarders gives Mimpo the tools to grow, but the real challenge will be to demonstrate that the integration translates into tangible added value for increasingly demanding customers and for supply chains that no longer tolerate inefficiencies.
