<p><span dir="auto">Customs revenue showed optimal performance in December 2025, totaling  </span><strong><span dir="auto">128,999.21 million pesos (mdp) </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">in cash flow</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , a real increase of  </span><strong><span dir="auto">29.4% compared to the same period in 2024</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , according to statistics from the </span><a href="https://www.anam.gob.mx/"><span dir="auto">National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM)</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">According to data from the </span><em><span dir="auto">Customs Revenue and Operation Dashboard</span></em><span dir="auto"> , both </span><strong><span dir="auto">Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS)</span></strong><span dir="auto"> grew in the last month of 2025. VAT registered an increase of 14.6% compared to December 2024, with 82,849.8 million pesos, while the IEPS totaled 24,235.9 million pesos, representing an increase of 102.1 percent.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Meanwhile, </span><strong><span dir="auto">transactions </span></strong> <strong><span dir="auto">increased by 2.7% in December 2025</span></strong><span dir="auto"> compared to the same month in 2024, totaling 1,688,268. </span><strong><span dir="auto">Customs declarations also saw a positive change of 1%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , with 906,404 transactions.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">ANAM detailed that <strong>maritime </strong></span><strong><span dir="auto">customs offices</span></strong> <span dir="auto">saw a real increase in revenue of 40.1%, reaching 72,315.38 million pesos during the reference period. Meanwhile, <strong>inland customs offices</strong> registered a 39.3% increase, totaling 21,308.55 million pesos in revenue. Customs offices along the <strong>northern border</strong> showed a real increase of 7.6% in December of last year compared to the same month in 2024, reaching 35,113.02 million pesos.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In December 2025, the </span><strong><span dir="auto">Manzanillo</span></strong><span dir="auto"> maritime customs showed a 6% increase by collecting 16,438.57 million pesos; the </span><strong><span dir="auto">Nuevo Laredo customs</span></strong><span dir="auto"> increased by 6.2% with 16,025.23 million pesos, and  </span><strong><span dir="auto">Veracruz</span></strong><span dir="auto"> registered a decrease of 4.6%, collecting 11,136.99 million pesos.</span></p>
<h4><strong><span dir="auto">Cumulative increase</span></strong></h4>
<p><span dir="auto">The accumulated revenue from January to December 2025 also showed positive results. ANAM reported a real increase of 15.5% compared to the same period in 2024, totaling a cash flow of </span><strong><span dir="auto">1,449,461.35 million pesos</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">During the period, the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">IEPS grew 53.8%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , totaling 247,639.5 million pesos; while the  </span><strong><span dir="auto">VAT registered an increase of 8.3%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , with 986,982.8 million pesos.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">However, both operations and customs declarations showed declines. Operations  </span><strong><span dir="auto">fell</span></strong><span dir="auto">  2.3% in 2025 compared to 2024, totaling 21,431,945; and customs </span><strong><span dir="auto">declarations</span></strong><span dir="auto"> totaled 10,824,725 transactions last year, representing a 4% decrease over 2024.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In 2025, Mexican foreign trade showed resilience in an environment marked by volatility and uncertainty, resulting from tariffs imposed by the United States, as well as reforms to the national customs system.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In that context, Mexican exports closed 2025 with positive figures, reaching </span><strong><span dir="auto">60,651 million dollars</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which represented an annual increase of 17.2%; while the accumulated value during last year was </span><strong><span dir="auto">664,837 million dollars</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which meant an annual growth of 7.6%, according to figures from the </span><a href="https://www.inegi.org.mx/"><span dir="auto">National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">In December 2025 alone </span><strong><span dir="auto">, there was a slight increase of 0.9% compared to the same month in 2024</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , with a total of 804,452 TEUs handled.</span></p>

<p><strong><span dir="auto">Manzanillo, in Colima, remained the leading port at the close of 2025, with a total of 346,003 TEUs in December</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , which meant an increase of 3.5% compared to the same period in 2024.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">However, the accumulated total for January-December of last year showed a slight drop, with </span><strong><span dir="auto">3,893,355 TEUs handled, a decrease of 0.8% compared to the accumulated total for 2024</span></strong><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">Meanwhile, Lázaro Cárdenas, in Michoacán, totaled 229,012 TEUs moved during December 2025, a growth of 9.2%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> over the last month of 2024; while in the accumulated total it reached two million 616 thousand 770 TEUs, an increase of 8.7 percent.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">The port of Veracruz reported the operation of 101,532 TEUs in the last month of 2025, which meant a slight decrease of 0.1%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , and in the January-December period it totaled 1,299,337 TEUs, a decrease of 0.2% compared to the same period in 2024.</span></p>
<p><strong><span dir="auto">Altamira, in Tamaulipas, also registered negative figures. In December 2025, it handled 66,838 TEUs, a drop of 20.7%</span></strong><span dir="auto"> ; while in the year to date, it moved 887,101 TEUs, a decrease of 3.5% compared to 2024.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">Regarding the percentage of containers moved during December, Manzanillo accounted for 43%; Lázaro Cárdenas 28.4%, Veracruz 12.6%, and Altamira 8.3% of the total operations.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">The national automotive sector grew </span><strong><span dir="auto">1.31% annually in 2025, with 1,523,959 units sold, while Chinese brands advanced 7.09% in the same period</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , with a total of 132,265 units sold, according to data from the </span><a href="https://www.inegi.org.mx/"><span dir="auto">National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi)</span></a><span dir="auto"> and the </span><a href="https://www.amda.mx/"><span dir="auto">Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA)</span></a><span dir="auto"> .</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">According to an analysis by  </span><a href="https://t21.com.mx/"><span dir="auto">T21 Business Intelligence</span></a><span dir="auto"> , this growth reflects a sustained trend over the past four years. In 2022, Chinese brands represented </span><strong><span dir="auto">just 5.7% of the market, with 62,629 units sold. This figure climbed to 8.0% in 2023, with 109,358 units, and to 8.2% in 2024, with 123,507 units</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , reaching a record high in 2025.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">In terms of brands, </span><strong><span dir="auto">MG Motor consolidated its position as the volume leader, with 48,816 units sold in 2025 and a 3.2% share of the total market</span></strong><span dir="auto"> ; followed by JAC with 24,445 units, equivalent to 1.6% of the market; while Great Wall Motor sold a total of 15,336 units, 1.0% of the market.</span></p>
<p><span dir="auto">The biggest growth surprises came from </span><strong><span dir="auto">Geely, which increased its sales by 237.4%, from 6,596 units in 2024 to 22,258 in 2025</span></strong><span dir="auto"> , achieving a 1.5% market share. Changan also showed strong performance, selling 19,308 vehicles in 2025, equivalent to 1.3% of the market, representing a 184.4% increase compared to the 6,788 units registered in 2024.</span></p>

<p><span dir="auto">The tariffs imposed by the U.S. government created a challenging environment for the automotive industry in the region. </span><strong><span dir="auto">However, far from hindering their progress, Chinese brands found fertile ground for expansion in Mexico</span></strong><span dir="auto"> . Sustained growth and diversification of their product offerings demonstrate that, despite external pressures, the Mexican market has become a strategic haven for these companies.</span></p>

<p><span>According to data from the </span><a href="https://www.commerce.gov/"><span>U.S. Department of Commerce</span></a><span> , Mexican exports of goods to the United States reached </span><strong><span>$46.342 billion</span></strong><span> in May 2025, representing a 5.6% increase compared to May 2024.</span></p>
<p><span>This figure was the second-highest monthly volume so far this year, surpassed only by the $47.982 billion reported last March.</span></p>

<p><span>Meanwhile, in the period January-May 2025, </span><strong><span>the total value of Mexican exports to the United States was $219.51 billion</span></strong><span> , generating a cumulative surplus for Mexico of $79.442 billion.</span></p>
<p><span>With a sustained pace of export growth, </span><strong><span>Mexico reaffirmed its role as the United States&#8217; main trading partner</span></strong><span> . The favorable performance of exports in the first five months of the year reflects the adaptability of the country&#8217;s productive industry in the face of complex economic environments and protectionist measures.</span></p>
<p><span>However, on July 7, </span><strong><span>the U.S. government announced a new 50% tariff on copper imports</span></strong><span> , which, according to experts, could lead to an annual drop of up to $1 billion in Mexican copper exports. By 2024, </span><strong><span>Mexico will position itself as the third-largest supplier of copper to the U.S. market</span></strong><span> , with sales totaling $976 million, according to data from the </span><a href="https://www.commerce.gov/"><span>U.S. Department of Commerce.</span></a></p>
<p><span>In Mexico, states such as </span><strong><span>Sonora, Michoacán, and Zacatecas would be the hardest hit by the tax</span></strong><span> , as they concentrate a large part of the national copper production.</span></p>
