The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) is seeking private sector assistance to build or expand bus stops on 17 federal highway sections where traffic is highest or where this type of infrastructure is lacking.
According to the draft proposal submitted to the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (Conamer) , these new spaces will be located adjacent to the right-of-way, in order to establish areas that allow for comprehensive services.
“These facilities must be designed according to the specific needs and characteristics of each road and region, with the goal of reducing the incidence of accidents and complying with the provisions of NOM-087-SCT-2-2017, which establishes driving and break times for drivers of federal trucking services,” the agency stated.
In this regard, he noted that the following sections are the first to be considered in the plan:
| Puebla-Córdoba Route 150D (toll). | Amozoc-Perote Route 140 D (toll). |
| Coatzacoalcos-Villahermosa Route 180 (toll-free). | Nogales Bypass Route 15D (toll). |
| Querétaro-San Luis Potosí Route 57 (toll-free). | Magdalena de Kino-Nogales Route 15 (toll-free). |
| Mexico-Querétaro Route 57D (toll). | Santa Ana-Altar Route 2 (toll). |
| Tejocotal-Tuxpan Route 132 D (toll). | Don-Nogales Station Route 15D (toll) (includes Magdalena de Kino bypass Route 15D (toll). |

The agency assured that the development of these inns will be a priority; however, if those interested are looking to develop projects in the sections not mentioned, they can do so .
“People who hold a valid permit, or who can prove they have initiated the process to obtain one for the construction of access roads or the establishment of inns, must comply with the applicable regulations, as well as the requirements established in the agreement establishing simplification actions for procedures and services provided to the SICT,” he stated.
The SICT indicated that these areas will be for federal highway users, primarily long-haul operators and the federal trucking sector, to provide them with rest and protection .
As well as driver services such as food, restrooms, overnight accommodation, first aid, including refueling, and parking for light vehicles, buses, and cargo vehicles, among others.
It’s worth remembering that Leonardo Gómez, executive president of the National Association of Private Transportation (ANTP), explained that, according to a study conducted by the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) , there is a shortage of 1,400 bus stops in Mexico , of which 700 could be built. He also mentioned the need to improve some of the existing locations.
