More than a week into her administration, President Claudia Sheinbaum finds herself in a dilemma, in which she has two options: give more of the same (in reference to the previous six-year term) or open the door to implement a modern Mexico , considered journalist Ana Paula Ordorica.
At the conference Influence of politics and economics on supply chain management , he said that our country is at a point where democracy is attacked from within democracy, which he exemplified with the reform of the Judicial Branch , which, among other factors, proposes the election of judges and magistrates by popular vote.
During his participation in Elevate Mexico 2024 , Ordorica listed the important dates that the current government has to announce some of the policies that will be implemented. Among them, he highlighted November 15 , when the Economic Package for 2025 will be announced , which projects the Expenditure Budget and the revenue collection goals.
He pointed out that there is uncertainty about how Sheinbaum Pardo will take charge of the country’s economy, since the programs of the previous administration will continue, and will add others, such as the already announced Pension for women between 60 and 64 years old .
Another key date will be the end of February 2025 , when the National Development Plan 2025-2030 will be announced . On this subject, the journalist questioned where the federal government will get the resources to carry it out.
Given this scenario, Ana Paula considered that the president of Mexico must “push” free trade with the northern neighbor , considering that in 2026 there will be a review of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) .
It should also turn to the signing of the free trade agreement with the European Union and, among other actions, avoid the disappearance of regulatory bodies , he said.
He considered that among the main challenges for Sheinbaum are mitigating the negative effect that the judicial reform will have on investment , addressing labor informality with the generation of formal jobs. In addition, addressing the deficits in various sectors, such as education and health, as well as improving security.
One of the possibilities for improvement, he stressed, is the relocation of production lines in Mexico ( nearshoring ), but to take advantage of it , the transportation and telecommunications infrastructure must be improved , and the energy supply must be guaranteed , among other factors.
Mexico continues to have an interdependent relationship with the United States , he added, explaining that the elections in that country are also a factor to consider, since Claudia Sheinbaum will have to discuss various policies with the next tenant of the White House , that is, Kamala Harris or Donald Trump .
