RIVIERA MAYA, Q. ROO. – The night wasn’t just electric because of the atmosphere, but also because of the announcement by Scania , which officially presented its new BEV 3 45R 6×2 in Mexico, the brand’s first 100% electric fifth-wheel tractor for regional and long-distance journeys, said Alejandro Mondragón, CEO for Mexico of the Swedish manufacturer.
“Mexico has been, and will continue to be, the country chosen by Scania to mark the beginning of major transformations in Latin America. We were the first to launch an urban electric truck, and today we are doing so again with this long-distance solution,” Mondragón highlighted at the 25th National Freight Transport Forum , organized by the National Association of Private Transport (ANTP) .

The new BEV 3 is designed to operate with up to 55 tons of gross combination weight. Its powertrain reaches 603 horsepower (hp) and 3,300 newton-meters (Nm) of torque, the highest on the market, while its 624-kilowatt-hour (kWh) NMC batteries allow a range of up to 350 kilometers (km), according to Jorge Navarro, commercial director of Scania Mexico for Trucks and Buses.

The electric tractor’s batteries can be fully recharged in 85 minutes using a 375 kW charger, tripling the capacity of the previous electric model, Navarro explained.
Beyond power, the vehicle also innovates in safety. It is equipped with the ADAS 2.0 system , which seeks to elevate the level of automation and driver assistance.
“We want electromobility to be a practical option, not a distant aspiration,” Navarro said.
Scania Mexico also launched a parallel after-sales expansion strategy: new branches in León, Guanajuato; Culiacán, Sinaloa; Manzanillo, Colima; and Villahermosa, Tabasco, as well as mobile maintenance services and on-site workshops for intensive customers, said Manuel Aranda, the firm’s Retail Director.

“The future isn’t something we wait for, it’s something we build. And we’re already leading it,” Mondragón explained.
