The supply chain is a set of links in which if one fails they stop working efficiently. Miguel Muñoz, founding partner of Rección Creativa Consultores, pointed out that those who support this chain must be put at the center of the table: processes, systems, infrastructure and personnel, since if any of them fail, the business strategy will not work and maintain security. It will be a fundamental point.
Muñoz emphasized the issue of personnel, since conditions and security must be provided so that collaborators can perform their functions fully.
He pointed out that 74% of frontline employees think about changing jobs , in addition to three out of 10 logistics employees living under stress.
“We have to put on the table that security equals efficiency, efficiency equals productivity, productivity equals good results on a day-to-day basis in the supply chain,” explained Muñoz.
During the panel Risk prevention of logistics talent in supply chains , organized by #SoyLogístico Asociación, Gisella Corona, safety and environment manager at CBRE, assured that the culture of prevention is an indicator that companies have in their sights because It is part of their performance, however, it is not taken into account in the main decisions.
“When management makes decisions, they are not evaluating risks, the periphery, infrastructure, transportation, not only for operational issues, it is a matter of prevention, damage to people, to units, to infrastructure,” he indicated.
For his part, Julio César Hernández, national manager of Safety and Hygiene of Grupo Salinas, indicated that an accident can cost a company 45 thousand pesos , which is why greater focus and investment in safety systems and training for personnel is required. .
“If senior managers pay attention to the human factor, it does not become an expense, it becomes an investment of all the savings that we can generate and, most importantly, the care of people, because it is the labor force that keeps us afloat. to the company so that it can achieve its objectives,” he said.
For example, Raúl Monroy, CEO of Transportes Monroy Schiavon (TMS), assured that working on the safety and health of personnel helps to obtain better results and have a privileged position in the market, however, he also highlighted that the environment is not aligned with health.
He reported that transportation is going through different challenges, in addition to insecurity in the country, one of them is the shortage of drivers and ensuring that they are in optimal health conditions.
He pointed out that at TMS, of the two thousand operator candidates that they reviewed in recent months, only 14% were healthy , without carrying out very in-depth studies.
He explained that keeping staff healthy is a joint effort, it is not achieved alone, so customers must be more involved, for example, in unloading shipments more quickly so that operators do not have to wait.
“We are working on security, with thefts, but today we are involving our clients in the safety and health of the operators. The shortage is enormous, we want to make it clear to our clients that the operator is essential to complete all the processes of a product until delivery to the final client,” emphasized Raúl Monroy.
For this reason, the manager pointed out that TMS provides its operators and other types of personnel with medical equipment, clinical and toxicological history, free medicines, treatments, nutritionist, dentist, psychologist, etc.
Additionally, as a measure of prevention and care for operators, they are limiting unnecessary night traffic and the units have different equipment, such as cameras in the cabin.
