Taking into account that Mexico ranks twelfth in the world in food production and considering the growing demand for perishable products, both in the domestic and international markets, the need for efficient and sufficient refrigerated transportation offering frozen, chilled, dry, and multi-temperature cargo services has become a determining factor in meeting the quality standards required by the market.
“We observe that this year the demand for services has increased; however, it is not fully covered due to the lack of operators. We estimate that the industry is capable of covering 70% of the total trips required, and it is not about the size of the company,” shares Emmanuel Salas, CEO of Transcooler, in an interview.
According to data from the Basic Statistics of Federal Road Transport, from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), at the end of 2023, there were 92,256 refrigerated boxes, representing 6.9% of the total vehicle fleet in Mexico.
While the demand for the transportation of perishable goods in the cold chain is high, it is true that it is a highly specialized mode of transportation that requires extremely effective logistics. The risk is higher than in dry box transportation since any refrigeration equipment failure exposes the integrity of the merchandise, demanding an immediate response capacity.
In the face of this complexity, Transcooler has found the formula to offer a “360” service, acting as a logistics operator responsible for the entire operation of a company (4PL). “We offer a comprehensive solution that includes material handling, labeling, storage, last-mile service, and TR1 from the plant to the warehouse. This is beneficial because customers only negotiate with one provider,” shares the entrepreneur.
