During the first half of 2024, the Mexican Railway System (SFM) moved 68.7 million tons of cargo, which meant a growth of 4% compared to the same period last year.
According to the statistical report of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) , Ferromex obtained the largest increase with 6.1%, with a movement of 33.5 million tons or 48.7% of the total.
ARTF detailed that, of the total tons handled in the SFM, 20.9 million corresponded to national traffic and 47.7 million to international traffic. Of the international traffic, 36.4 million tons were imported and 11.3 million were exported.
Similarly, of the 68.7 million tons, 32.6 million were industrial products , 19.7 million were agricultural products, 8.8 million were petroleum products and their derivatives, 4.1 million were mineral products and the rest corresponded to forestry, inorganic and derivative products. of animals, which together transported 3.37 million.
Compared to the January-June 2023 period, the product groups that showed the greatest increase were agricultural products with 10.3%, animal products with 10%, and oil and its derivatives with 9.3 percent. While minerals and inorganics registered a decrease of 13% and 6.9%, respectively.
In basic basket products there was a growth of 12% , going from 12.6 million tons to 14.1 million tons.
