From January to September of this year, the Mexican Railway System (SFM) transported 101.23 million tons, representing an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period in 2023, with Ferromex and Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) of Mexico leading the cargo movement.
Of the total, 29.02 million tons, or 28.6%, corresponded to national traffic and 72.21 million tons, or 71.3%, to international traffic, reported the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) .
Of the international traffic, 55.18 million tons, 76.4%, were imported and 17 million tons, 23.5%, were exported.
“Compared to the same period in January-September 2023, domestic traffic grew by 3.6%, international traffic by 1.7%, imports rose by 3%, and exports decreased by 2.4%,” the regulatory body said.
In the mentioned period, 101.2 million tons were transported in total, of which 48.5 million tons were industrial products , 28.9 million tons agricultural products, 13 million tons petroleum products and their derivatives.
While minerals accounted for 5.61 million tons and the remainder corresponds to forestry, inorganic and animal derivatives products, which together transported five million tons.
As for basic basket products, the figure rose from 18.32 million tonnes to 20.57 million tonnes, which translated into an increase of 12.29% year-on-year.
