Expo Santa Fe, in Mexico City, was the venue that framed the global launch of BYD Shark, the first new energy pickup from the Chinese brand Build Your Dreams (BYD).
More than 800 attendees witnessed the arrival of this truck that promises to redefine the market for plug-in hybrid pickups thanks to its advanced technology, its range, among other characteristics that make it unique in its range.
For the Mexican market, BYD Shark will arrive in two versions: BYD Shark GL with a cost of 899,980 pesos and BYD Shark GS with a starting price of 969,800 pesos.
According to Jorge Vallejo, general director of the brand in Mexico, BYD Shark is positioned in the segment as the first PHEV, resulting from the work, design, and technological innovation that already characterize the Asian firm.
He also highlighted that it will be distributed exclusively in the national territory.
Externally, BYD Shark offers a dynamic design, a superior style, courtesy of the renowned German designer Wolfgang Egger, who merged technology with the essence of the power and strength of the shark, one of the most formidable predators of the ocean.
At its core, this vehicle features Dual Mode off Road (DMO), BYD’s new platform for plug-in hybrid vehicles for off-road.
“This platform is a fusion of both performance, efficiency of electric vehicles, and of course the combination of fuel,” detailed Óscar Hernández, product leader of the brand.
In that sense, he explained that its pickup has three engines: an electric motor in the front, one in the rear, and a 1.5-liter turbo engine, in addition to the already traditional BLADE battery, the most disruptive in the market.
“All this set of electric motors, combustion engine, gives us more than 430 horsepower with a power from 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds,” he explained.
