In order for PepsiCo Mexico employees to obtain certification and continue developing by strengthening their skills, the company’s operator academy trained 245 drivers in the southeast of the country and the Valley of Mexico in the last year .
“At PepsiCo Mexico, we believe in the power of continuous training to boost our talent. Our Transport Operators Academy not only trains drivers in technical skills, it also fosters a culture of safety and responsibility on the road. We are committed to having the best trailer operators, who are essential to bringing our products to millions of homes across the country,” said Roberto Martínez, president of PepsiCo Alimentos México.
The program was launched in November 2022, with the intention that those interested in becoming operators would obtain a certification, the food and beverage company said in a statement.
“The academy is a training model that takes advantage of the experience of the best operators, combined with theory and cutting-edge technology. This model also allows strengthening the skills of current operators,” the company said.
The program has two mobile classrooms with Apex driving simulators inside specialized trailers, which began operations at the Sabritas Veracruz plant. It also includes four training stages , with 60 hours of learning in a simulator, 320 hours of practice in the maneuvering yard and 750 hours of travel on the road, as well as theoretical sessions, evaluations and a certification.
A total of 65 operators from the southeastern part of the country have been trained , including the Sabritas Veracruz and Gamesa plants in Mérida, Yucatán, as well as a distribution center in Villahermosa, Tabasco.
The program has accumulated just over 1,500 hours of training , which have generated a positive effect for employees in factors such as fuel savings per trip, strict compliance with road safety and efficiency on their routes.
“After four months of training, I have developed skills in trailer maneuvering, from the type of unit to the dimensions, to achieve professional, personal and professional growth,” shared Leonardo Hernández, transport operator at the Sabritas Veracruz plant.
In the Valley of Mexico, 180 drivers have been trained , totaling 7,200 theoretical and practical hours. Tools such as telemetry (technology adapted to a vehicle that allows measuring and collecting data from the unit remotely) and driving tests have been key in this area for the company to train drivers who assume a cultural identity based on safety and efficiency.
According to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection , from January to March of this year , 3,519 road accidents occurred in Mexico , with crashes being the most recurrent, with 1,298. In this context, the work of the PepsiCo Mexico Operators Academy is important, since it trains its drivers with a focus on compliance with road safety and efficiency on their routes.
