agri-food balance grew by 22.06% in the first five months of the year , reaching four thousand 890 million dollars (mdd), reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
This increase was driven by a new record in exports , which totaled 24,327 million dollars, 7.22% more than in the same period last year, marking the highest value in the last 32 years.
The increase in exports has allowed the country to generate greater foreign exchange , even exceeding income from foreign tourism and the sale of oil products.
In addition, it has contributed to the creation of jobs and economic dynamism in exporting regions and value chains.
The exports that had the greatest economic impact were:
- Beer with two thousand 837 million dollars.
- Tequila and mezcal with 1,736 million dollars.
- Avocado, one thousand 534 billion.
- Tomate fresco o refrigerado, mil 499 mdd.
- Fresh strawberries and raspberries, 1,200 million dollars.
On the other hand, imports also grew , although at a lower rate, totaling 19,436 million dollars, which represents an increase of 4.04% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Thus, the agricultural and fishing balance registered a surplus of two thousand 362 million dollars, an increase of 148.77% compared to the previous period, with exports that totaled 11 thousand 222 million dollars.
In contrast, the agroindustrial balance presented a surplus of 2,528 million dollars, 17.29% less than the same period last year, with exports of 13,104 million dollars.
Among the products that registered the greatest growth in exports are:
- Frozen orange juice: 77.87 percent.
- Fresh or dried grapes and raisins: 59.53 percent.
- Preparations of coffee, tea or yerba mate: 53.66 percent.
- Cattle: 52.02 percent.
- Cigarettes and cigars: 23.30 percent.
Vegetables, beverages and fruits led exports, representing 63% of the total, with a share of 22%, 22% and 18%, respectively. This performance reinforces the importance of the Mexican agri-food sector in the national economy and in the international market.
