With the aim of strengthening customs operations, as of this Thursday, January 16, Mario Alberto Limas López was appointed as the new head of the Manzanillo customs office , according to what was announced by the National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) .
In a statement, the customs authority reported that under the leadership of Limas López, the customs of the port of Manzanillo will continue to work with professionalism and in close collaboration with all actors in the sector.
The agency assured that the designation was carried out in accordance with ANAM guidelines , and its purpose is to strengthen customs operations for the benefit of foreign trade and the national economy.
In its X account, the Association of Terminals and Operators of Manzanillo (ASTOM) congratulated Limas López for his new appointment and reiterated its willingness to collaborate with his administration “to continue strengthening the main port of Mexico.”
According to information from the National Port System Administration (Asipona) Manzanillo , during 2024 the total volume of merchandise operated by the port of Manzanillo was 33 million 572 thousand 428 tons , including petroleum products, which represented 0.8% less compared to 2023.
In terms of container movement, last year the port handled a total of 3,924,501 20-foot containers (TEU, a maritime measurement unit), or 6.1% more compared to 2023.
Meanwhile, in November of last year, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum , gave the starting signal for the construction of Nuevo Manzanillo , in the Cuyutlán lagoon, which will be a new area of port terminals that will be focused on the movement of containers.
Mario Alberto Limas López takes over the position of head of the Manzanillo customs office, replacing Aristeo Aguilar Meza , and after Marcelo Ebrard , head of the Ministry of Economy (SE) , announced at the end of December 2024 that they had detected at least 40 customs agents who presented irregularities and omissions in their operations.
