Within the strategies to mobilize goods, competitiveness and an efficient human factor are essential parts for a product to reach its destination in a timely manner. This is where the freight transport service comes in , which could find in nearshoring an opportunity to propose improvements, as highlighted by Leonardo Gómez Vargas , executive president of the National Association of Private Transport (ANTP) .
In the panel “Logistics strategies and multimodal transport for nearshoring ”, he highlighted that work is being done in various areas in order to improve logistics, which is why it is necessary to have the appropriate infrastructure to accelerate the delivery of products .
At the first forum “The nearshoring wave : Challenges and opportunities for port development”, organized by the Navy , Leonardo Gómez shared that there are around 20 thousand daily crossings from Mexico to the United States, that is, 56% of the merchandise at the national level moves by road transport, 80% of the value of trade through the United States moves by road transport.
He considered that the relocation of companies in Mexico ( nearshoring ) represents a great opportunity to strengthen the multimodal and port infrastructure as a vehicle for our country to position itself in global trade .
Meanwhile, Diego Anchustegui, president of the Mexican Association of Intermodal Transport (AMTI) , stressed that intermodal transport is a solution to the problems that exist in the mobility of goods in the country.
He said that there is a shortage of 54 thousand operators in the freight transport sector in Mexico, however, he pointed out that no one wants to do this work to reduce this deficit, and on the contrary, there are various factors that contribute to maintaining this imbalance, such as insecurity or emigration to the United States to work with a B1 Visa and with a better salary.
Anchustegui stressed that intermodal transport offers greater capacity to customers, in addition to requiring fewer operators to make the same trips, and that one of the advantages is that the railway infrastructure already exists and is being improved, as is security.
He also stressed that another benefit of this sector is that it involves more than one means of transport during a single trip, so it can be by road, rail or sea; in addition, it has social, financial, operational and environmental benefits.
