Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) , the world’s largest shipping company, reaffirms its strategic commitment to Mexico as a key market within its global operations.
Growing demand for maritime transport between Asia and Mexico has consolidated a robust commercial dynamic in recent years. In 2024 alone, Mexican Pacific ports with direct connections to the Far East recorded a movement of 2,751,463 TEUs (20-foot containers) , representing an annual growth of 11.9 percent . Meanwhile, exports reached 2,632,425 TEUs , an increase of 14.2 percent , according to figures from the Mexican port authority.
The MEXICAS service connects directly to the ports of Manzanillo and Lázaro Cárdenas and is designed to offer personalized service, efficient connections, and competitive transit times . It is particularly suited to key sectors such as food, automotive, minerals, and plastics.
In addition to MEXICAS, MSC offers the Andes Express, INCA and Aztec services , which connect Asia not only with Mexico, but also with strategic ports on the west coast of Latin America, allowing for greater economies of scale .
These routes link the country with major Asian hubs in Japan and Korea, such as Yokohama, Kobe, Shanghai, Xiamen, Busan , and Hong Kong , strengthening Mexico’s role as a key logistics hub in the region.
This year, MSC is also proud to have launched its new Independent East-West Network , in direct response to customer needs for greater port coverage and connectivity. Operating independently will allow MSC, supported by a fleet of more than 900 vessels, to offer a wide range of options and alternatives for direct port pairs. The return to independence takes MSC back to its roots, further strengthening the company’s ability to adapt quickly to changing global events and market demands.
Following the dissolution of the 2M alliance in February of this year, MSC has opted to operate independently, strengthening its responsiveness and closeness to its customers.
“Export demand is also growing, especially for refrigerated products. At MSC, we are ready to support with our reefer capacity , offering reliable and safe solutions for these segments,” Cobos emphasized.
