
The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) has entered the soccer party, announcing that it will grant administrative facilities for the temporary importation of merchandise destined for the 2026 World Cup , which will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
“It is essential to have all the resources for the event’s organization and logistics in a timely manner, including foreign merchandise. It is advisable to establish administrative facilities in the procedure for certifying compliance with non-tariff regulations and restrictions on the temporary importation of merchandise destined for the 2026 World Cup, and to provide clarity and legal certainty,” the federal agency stated.
Through an agreement published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) , it was specified that the competent agencies and entities must comply with these measures and establish the procedure, and jointly announce the instrument that will be applied .
He explained that, according to the Customs Law, the temporary import regime refers to the entry of goods into Mexico to remain in the country for a limited period of time and for a specific purpose, provided they return abroad in the same condition, particularly in the case of goods destined for sporting events.
Therefore, he mentioned that prior to customs clearance for temporary imports of goods, authorized persons may prove compliance with the corresponding non-tariff regulations or restrictions by means of a document containing the product description, tariff item number, and commercial identification number, among other information.
“The football competition requires the participation and organization of all levels of government, in order to fulfill the commitments made by the Mexican State as host of this event,” he stated.
The SHCP detailed that the organizations that will participate in this exercise will be:
- Tax Administration Service (SAT) .
- National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) .
- Ministry of Economy (SE) .
- Secretariat of National Defense (Defense) .
- National Service of Health, Safety and Agri-Food Quality (Senasica) .
- Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) .
- Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) .
In 2017, Mexico was selected, along with the United States and Canada, as the host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the Mexican government committed to providing the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) with the necessary support and administrative facilities for its organization .
