Last October, interaction with motor transport in the four main ports in Mexico improved by 19% compared to the times recorded a month earlier in the Average Time Index for Motor Transport in Ports (ITPAP) , dropping from 4.73 to 3.80 decimal hours.
The record is also the third best indicator in the first 10 months of the year on the productivity of the ports of Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas, Altamira and Veracruz , in the operation with auto transport.
The port of Manzanillo was the one that registered the best evolution during October, making the most progress in reducing loading times by achieving a 28% reduction compared to the previous month, according to the index prepared by the T21 Business Intelligence unit.
The port of Lázaro Cárdenas followed with a 16% reduction in its times in the same period. Altamira was left behind with 12% less and Veracruz , which only achieved a 6% reduction.
During October, the sample to create the ITPAP was based on the monitoring of 2,614 transport units, averaging the times taken in the three sections in which the measurement is made: the waiting time to access the port, the maneuvering time in the terminals and the waiting time to complete the customs crossing process.
The information is provided by trucking companies and GPS vehicle tracking companies to compile the index.
Among the ports measured, Lázaro Cárdenas, although it improved, has two months with the longest average time in its interaction with motor transport, averaging this time 5 hours and 50 seconds to complete the circuit.
Manzanillo, the port with the highest container traffic , was the one that required the least amount of time for road transport during the previous month, allowing the circuit to be completed in 3 hours and 39 seconds.
Altamira followed with 3 hours 33 minutes and six seconds and Veracruzwith 3 hours 42 minutes and five seconds.
As a percentage of times, customs crossings remained above 45% of the circuit , waiting time to enter the port was 30%, and maneuvering operations at the terminal represented almost 24 percent.
The costs of road transport in ports can still be reduced according to the same indicator, which in May recorded average times 18.6% below those reported last October.
