In a context where Donald Trump, President of the United States, has signed executive orders to eliminate incentives and regulations that promote electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz Buses is not far behind and responds with a decisive commitment to electromobility by launching its first electric bus in Mexico , reaffirming its commitment to sustainable innovation and clean transportation.
At an event held with partners, customers and special guests, the brand revealed its first electric bus for the Mexican market, reaffirming its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
The model is equipped with the electric chassis and a body developed by BUSSCAR .
“This bus has been designed and is intended to meet the specific needs of Mexican cities,” said Alexandre Nogueira, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Autobuses in Mexico.
He also highlighted that the electric unit symbolises the brand’s commitment to cleaner and more efficient transport.
For his part, Alfonso Chacón , a specialist in Commercial Engineering at Mercedes-Benz Buses, highlighted the safety of the new electric bus and some of its features.
- Length: 13.2 meters.
- Capacity: Up to 80 passengers.
- Electric motor: ZF AVE 130 with maximum power of 250 kW.
- Autonomy: Up to 0.8 kw/kilometer up to 1.4 depending on its configuration and operation.
- Batteries: Five to six packs, with a total charging capacity of 490 kWh.
- Charging time: Approximately three hours.
“ The vehicle is so safe that only the rear part of the rear axle towards the top is high voltage. Everything that is the passenger and operator area is highly safe. We can drive around the city without any problem because the vehicle is very safe,” said Chacón .
Meanwhile, Raúl González, Director of Sales, After-Sales and Marketing for Mercedes-Benz Buses in Mexico, said that this vehicle represents a technological advance and a cultural change in the way we move and care for the planet. He also highlighted the benefits for users and operators, such as the low noise and vibration levels, thermal insulation and a UV filter that guarantees greater comfort.
“We cannot talk about mobility without sustainability. Today we are taking an important step towards a future where mobility is synonymous with progress and environmental care,” González emphasized.
The bus also integrates advanced technology for safety and comfort:
- Cameras and sensors at every stop: Ensure passengers get on and off safely.
- Smart connectivity: Real-time monitoring of energy consumption and operator habits through an artificial intelligence camera system.
- Driver assistance: Braking systems, lane changing and 360 cameras reduce stress during operation.
Alexandre Pöschl, Global Director of Strategy at Daimler Buses , highlighted the importance of Mexico in the transition towards electromobility.
“ The launch of this electric bus marks the beginning of a new era for mobility in Mexican cities ,” said Pöschl.
The battery, which comes with an eight-year warranty, ensures long-term reliable performance, while the power management system minimises operational failures.
The bus is also designed to initially adapt to the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system and gradually expand to other cities in the country.
“ Today, together, we take an important step towards the future we all desire, where mobility is synonymous with progress and environmental care ,” concluded González.
