Farmers and truckers carried out their threat to block highways and customs checkpoints in Mexico. At least 14 states have been affected by road closures, impacting the movement of goods .
In that regard, the National Chamber of Freight Transportation (Canacar) issued a press release, as of 11:00 a.m., outlining the main affected areas, which include:
In Mexico City and the Metropolitan Area , closures are reported on the Mexico-Pachuca highway at kilometer markers 28 and 44. The Mexico-Puebla highway has blockages at kilometer marker 67 and lane reductions at kilometer marker 19. The Arco Norte highway is affected at kilometers 112 and 156, in addition to roads such as Peñón-Texcoco and the Autopista Urbana Norte.
In the State of Mexico , the Mexico-Toluca highway is blocked near Lerma. On the Mexico-Querétaro highway, the Tepotzotlán toll plaza has its slow lane affected. Closures are also reported on the Chamapa-Lechería, Toluca-Naucalpan (La Marquesa), and Teoloyucan-Jaltenco highways.
In Puebla and Veracruz , the Puebla-Veracruz highway is experiencing blockades in Esperanza, Acatzingo, and Orizaba. On the Puebla-Orizaba highway, the Ciudad Serdán intersection is closed. The Xalapa-Veracruz highway is affected at kilometer 90, while the Córdoba-Veracruz highway has a blockade in Cuitláhuac.
In Michoacán , the Siglo XXI highway is blocked at Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Las Cañas. The Occidente highway is closed at kilometer 37 and in Ecuandureo. These disruptions are complicating traffic toward Guadalajara.
In Jalisco , the Guadalajara bypass is experiencing a blockade on Highway 80D. Highway 15D has closures in sections such as Zapotlanejo-San Juan de Los Lagos and Guadalajara-Tepic. A blockade is also reported on the Colima-Guadalajara highway at kilometer 54D.
In Chihuahua, blockades were confirmed at the toll booths in Saucillo, Camargo, and Jiménez. Blockades were also reported in Savalza and Sacramento. Additionally, the customs office at the Zaragoza International Bridge in Ciudad Juárez was seized, and the Pan-American Highway was blocked at kilometer 20, disrupting the flow of goods in the area.
In Hidalgo , in addition to the Arco Norte highway, closures are reported on the Mexico-Pachuca highway and in Tecámac. Querétaro is experiencing intermittent blockades on Highway 57, in Palmillas and Bernal. In Guerrero , there are closures on the Autopista del Sol (Highway of the Sun); in Zacatecas , at the Calera toll booth; and in Coahuila , on Federal Highway 40D, where there are also disruptions on its main roads.
However, the blockades on the Peñón-Texcoco and Autopista Urbana Norte highways have been lifted . More blockades have also appeared on highways and at customs checkpoints throughout the day, including in Sinaloa , on the Guamúchil-Guasave highway, at the Sinaloa Bridge, as well as at the Costa Rica toll booth in Culiacán and the El Pisal toll booth in Navolato.
In Tamaulipas, blockades are reported on the Tampico-Mante highway, near the “La Esperanza” bridge, and on the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway, near kilometer 036+350. Additionally, the customs office at the Nuevo Amanecer International Bridge is blocked.
Interior Ministry reacts to blockades
At a press conference, the Secretary of the Interior (Segob) , Rosa Icela Rodríguez, reported that during the current administration, 316 meetings have been held with transportation leaders and more than 200 meetings in the last three weeks with farmers , with the aim of addressing their demands. She reiterated that the government remains open to dialogue and emphasized that, despite the working groups convened, the reasons for the blockades are not understood, unless they are driven by “political interests.”
Rodríguez added that a new dialogue session with representatives of farmers and transporters would take place at 1:00 p.m. , in search of agreements that would resolve the situation.
However, the National Association of Transporters (ANTAC) stated that they were not invited to the dialogue announced by the Ministry of the Interior (Segob ), and insisted that the blockades are to demand greater security on the highways.
Today’s blockades have caused delays in the distribution of goods, increasing operating costs and disrupting the supply chain. These disruptions translate into losses for exports and imports, one of the most dynamic drivers of the Mexican economy .
The frequency of these blockades forces companies to rethink their transportation strategies, invest in alternative routes, and absorb additional costs for fuel, man-hours, and storage. In a context where competitiveness depends on logistical efficiency, each disruption represents a direct blow to profitability and the stability of the domestic market.
