The specialized container terminal (TEC) Hutchison Ports LCT , belonging to the multinational group Hutchison Ports , set a historical record in the port of Lázaro Cárdenas by exceeding 1.5 million TEU (20-foot containers) operated in a single year.
According to a press release from the company, this milestone was reached on December 20, 2024, “ consolidating the terminal as one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing in the Mexican port system, by meeting the growing demand for international trade in the Pacific.”
He also indicated that in just three years, Hutchison Ports LCT increased its annual operating volume from 1 million to 1.5 million TEUs, and faced an annual growth rate of over 20%.
According to LCT General Manager Alfredo Huesca Sánchez, to sustain this growth, the terminal has prioritized the modernization of its infrastructureand the optimization of its operational processes.
Currently, Hutchison Ports LCT is advancing in Phase III of its expansion project , a comprehensive plan that includes the addition of 28 hectares of operational area and 345 meters of additional dock. Upon completion of this phase in 2025, the terminal will have 1,278 meters of dock, distributed in three berthing positions, and a total surface area of 104 hectares.
“These improvements will allow us to handle a larger volume of cargo, integrate advanced technology and guarantee a more agile and efficient service,” the executive said in the statement.
It is worth remembering that Hutchison Ports in Mexico seeks to reduce absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 54.6% by 2033. In addition, it plans to achieve the goal of net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.
“Our business unit is working intensively on modernizing its infrastructure and equipment, in line with our environmental commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050,” he added.
