The new passenger and cargo railway projects of the current administration will have a budget of more than 100 billion pesos , according to the Draft Federal Expenditure Budget for 2025.
In the document, the Government of Mexico mentioned that the planning and execution of projects in the railway and multimodal transport subsectors constitutes triggering policy strategies to boost the country’s regional development.
“In line with the 100 commitments for the 2nd floor of the transformation, SICT will direct its activities to achieve them, participating in the area of railway infrastructure, the technological development program for national development, supporting the development of the urban improvement program in the State of Mexico, the implementation of freight transport on the Mayan Train, the construction of three thousand km of new passenger train lines and strengthening freight transport by rail,” the document stated.
To this end, it designated 90,166 million pesos for provisions for the development of passenger and freight trains.
He said that the strengthening of the railway sector will continue with the passenger train projects to AIFA, Mexico-San Luis Potosí-Monterrey and Mexico-Querétaro-Guadalajara .
Likewise, he proposed 1,556.3 million pesos for the Mexico-Toluca train , and for the Suburban to AIFA , an allocation of 277.3 million pesos that will be used to complete the work and release the right of way.
Meanwhile, through the Ministry of Defense , 40,827 million pesos were allocated for the railway sector.
For the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, 25 thousand 12.6 million pesos were assigned , between own and fiscal resources, which will be used for various works such as the connection with Line Z, comprehensive rehabilitation, modernization of the Line FA track, among others.
The federal government stated that projects such as the Mayan Train will be consolidated and will be promoted so that it reaches Puerto Progreso and transports cargo, as well as the Interoceanic, so that works such as Line K will be completed, and collaboration will be provided for its connection with Guatemala.
41,507 million pesos were allocated for this system, of which 40,827 million pesos correspond to subsidies and tax support.
New train lines will also be built to the north and the Buenavista-AIFA and Pachuca-Tizayuca lines will be completed.
Work will be done on consolidating the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) , among others. Actions will also be implemented to strengthen Mexicana de Aviación.
