Electrification in transportation has become a necessity, so the fleets of delivery and last mile companies have been the spearhead on the path of this transition, however, there are still challenges and new technologies that are helping the companies.

Daniel López, Chief Commercial Officer of Evergo , told T21 that electrification responds to a global change in which the sustainability policies of companies in the world are increasingly stricter and have to meet ESG (Environmental, Social and Health) objectives. Governance), in which they have planned electrification routes for 2030-2035.

“They begin to look for vehicles that suit their needs in terms of size, load capacity, autonomy, sizes, height, conditions, etc. Manufacturers are beginning to bring this type of vehicles to the country,” he assured.

Electrification in transportation has a big bump in the road and the main challenge that specialists often comment on is that there is no necessary charging infrastructure for the units, but, in addition, Daniel López indicated that advice is required to develop this infrastructure. .

For example, he indicated that an electrification project requires several areas of the business, but also the real state , since the infrastructure of the distribution centers requires certain specifications to place the chargers.

“We have to understand where the electrification program is going to go, for example, in the last mile operation, the need for charging is that the distribution centers have charging points for the units that collect orders. . So, the size of the cedis, the parking spaces of those cedis, the location of the loading port is very important, at that level of detail a project has to be designed,” he assured.

It is also required to have a certain electrical capacity, since in many cases it is necessary to build new substations, agreements with the electricity company, in this case, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) , there are connection points, etc.

Likewise, he indicated that technology is important for the development of the business, such as software that provides certain indicators such as energy use on certain routes, emissions savings, etc.

“To remain competitive, business owners and fleet managers must understand that moving to electric vehicles is more than purchasing vehicles and installing chargers. Rather, it is about using data to make informed decisions about your feasibility of electrifying your facilities, your fleet by typology and utilization and ensuring future operational performance and profitability,” he assured.
