Logistics services company FedEx highlighted its commitment to sustainability and support for local communities through philanthropic initiatives , as well as its impact on the global economy during its fiscal year 2024 (FY 2024), in which it generated more than $85 billion worldwide , in what it has called the “FedEx Effect.”
In its annual economic impact report, published this Monday, it highlighted that FedEx Mexico plays an important role in the national economy, in which it stands out for the company’s extensive delivery network in the country, made up of more than eight thousand workers who serve the 32 states through a national land center, a logistics center, six air cargo terminals, 44 critical inventory warehouses and 83 operational stations .
In addition, they are supported by more than three thousand collection and delivery points , and their fleet includes more than two thousand vehicles and aircraft , facilitating more than 35 international flights per week.
Regarding its commitment to communities, he gave as an example the help it offered in October 2023, when after Hurricane Otis passed through Acapulco, Guerrero, FedEx Mexico transported more than 120 tons of food , essential items and water to the affected areas in collaboration with the Mexican Red Cross .
Among other actions, he indicated that he also provided 2,680 backpacks and school supplies in 16 schools in Acapulco together with the association Children in Joy .
In FY 2024, he stressed that FedEx operations in Latin America and the Caribbean contributed 0.8% to net economic output in the transportation, storage and communication sector. “This impact is strengthened by significant investments in infrastructure and sustainability, including the expansion of a fleet of electric vehicles in Mexico,” he said.
The company has introduced additional electric vehicles in Brazil and Chile, and has modernized its air fleet in Mexico to align with its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. In that regard, the newly added Boeing 767/300 and the two ATR aircraft are designed to reduce CO2 emissions by 45 percent.
The report also noted that FedEx contributed more than $85 billion in direct impact to the global economy in fiscal year 2024 , representing about 0.1% of global net economic output.
The company has the world’s most extensive transportation network, serving more than 220 countries and territories. FedEx employs more than 500,000 people at more than 5,000 facilities and moves an average of 16 million packages per day.
In its report, it said it is investing in renewable energy, fleet electrification and carbon capture research. “In FY 2024, FedEx introduced electric vehicles in several markets, enhancing its commitment to sustainable practices,” it said.
During its fiscal year 2024, it also noted that the company’s charitable contributions totaled more than $55 million to its direct partnerships with non-governmental organizations and nonprofit institutions.
These activities are part of the actions the company has undertaken in FY 2024, and in collaboration with Dun & Bradstreet , a business analytics provider, “the report highlights the ‘FedEx Effect’ – the company’s influence in accelerating the flow of goods and ideas that drive economic growth in countries and regions.”
