After two days of road blockades in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, caused by dissatisfied farmers, the National Chamber of Cargo Transportation (Canacar) called on the authorities to find solutions that benefit those interested, so that free transit through the area is reestablished and continuity is given to the vocation of cargo transportation, which is to bring goods and merchandise closer to where they are needed.
Local media reported that the impact was derived from the demand of agricultural producers that support be immediately restored, so that a ton of sorghum has a price of six thousand 500 pesos, a cost that the dissidents classified as “fair.”
“At Canacar we understand the legitimate demands of farmers and recognize the importance of their voices being heard (…) it is essential that a constructive dialogue be established between farmers and the government to address the underlying causes of these blockages, thus guaranteeing well-being. of the entire community and the continuity of economic activities,” the organization detailed.
The Chamber indicated that among the effects of the blockades is the delay in the delivery of products that causes interruptions in supply chains, which affects the availability of products in local and regional markets.
Added to this is the increase in operating costs , since transport companies are pushed to look for other routes that are more expensive and sometimes take longer to make the journey, which increases fuel consumption and unnecessary wear and tear of vehicles. the units.
Likewise, and taking into account the manufacturing and maquiladora vocation of the region, the Chamber stressed that the blockades cause interruptions in production, because “industries dependent on inputs transported by road have reported a decrease in their productive capacity, which could lead to significant economic losses and effects on employment.”
Adjacent to these effects are other repercussions such as access to basic services for the population , increase in travel times for students and workers in the region, among others.
“We remain at the disposal of the authorities to collaborate in the search for solutions and in the implementation of measures that allow the restoration of normality in the transportation of goods,” Canacar reported.
