To improve their competitiveness, e-commerce in Mexico must adopt specialized logistics and sales management platforms . These tools can help sellers consolidate their information, optimize their shipments and also take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) to benefit their operations, according to specialists gathered at the AMVO Forum, omnichannel transformation 2024 .
In this regard, Juliana Sarmiento, co-founder and CRO of Envioclick , highlighted the importance of tools that integrate multiple sales channels into a single system, allowing Mexican companies to manage aspects such as prices, inventory and demand in channels such as Amazon , Mercado Libre , Shopify and department stores from a single platform.
“The integration of these systems not only centralizes the operation, but also allows us to predict which products to prioritize in certain channels. This reduces the operational burden and improves the customer experience,” said Sarmiento.
For his part, Francisco Javier Velázquez, CEO of Sted Traslados , stressed that it is very expensive to develop own logistics solutions and recommended that Mexican sellers partner with companies that already have these tools.
“Platforms like Amazon and Mercado Libre have automated logistics systems that can hardly be replicated without external support. These giants have robots and automated conveyors, they manage storage and movement of products, a level of technology that only a few platforms in the country could match,” explained Velázquez.
In addition, the specialists agreed that collaborative technological platforms are key for small and medium-sized e-commerce . These solutions allow companies to achieve competitive delivery times and offer greater visibility to customers regarding their orders.
“Today, customers can see the status of their order in real time, which is key in such a demanding market,” said Velázquez.
However, panelists also noted the importance of retailers first starting to organize their data before adopting AI or advanced logistics .
“Inventory and sales management is essential before migrating to more complex tools. Good data management allows for a more effective transition to advanced technologies,” said Velázquez.
They concluded that AI applied to logistics and e-commerce sales represents an important opportunity for Mexico, but that the basis for taking advantage of it lies in data organization.
