“The supply chain is the backbone of a company” as it involves various processes, which implies digital transformation to make logistics in retail more efficient , according to Flor Argumedo, CIO of La Comer .
In the second edition of the “Supply chain day” – Make a connection , organized by GS1 Mexico and the consulting firm Deloitte , Argumedo said that suppliers should be seen as allies , since it also helps to make the logistics network more efficient, as has happened in the case of the company he represents, which began its digital transformation in 2000.
In this regard, he recalled that they have a system called “blind receipt”, in which the supplier arrives and unloads without opening the pallets, which go directly to the store without going through the distribution center (cedis), and whose operations are saved in the cloud.
During his participation in the Corporate Legacy talk , he recalled the transition from Comercial Mexicana to La Comer, in which the group had to enter into digital transformation , which involved optimizing several of its processes.
This reengineering began with defining objectives and having a work plan and implementing it, a phase in which the human factor, he stressed, was decisive in introducing digitalization into the firm, and emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) in retail is more oriented to experiences of the product or service given to the customer , in order to know their preferences.
He considered that the supply chain has changed and evolved , since now the product goes through various processes until it is sent to the distribution center, the cold chain and reaches the store and, currently, with electronic commerce, even the consumer’s home.
This involves streamlining the supply chain and product logistics, which involves traceability.
Finally, he pointed out that some of the challenges of logistics from Information Technology is to coordinate objectives , since having this part well defined will help reduce costs, especially in the transportation of goods.
In the second quarter of the year, La Comer had net sales of 10,989 million pesos , which represented an increase of 12.8% compared to the same period in 2023, according to its financial report sent to the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) .
