Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has begun construction of Terminal F, which will cost around $1.6 billion and will be ready by 2027. It will be the sixth and will feature a double-loaded boarding bridge with 15 gates and modern amenities for customers.
“The new terminal will expand the airport’s reach with state-of-the-art facilities that align with our world-class customer experience and operation, while supporting the historic increase in air travel to and from the North Texas region,” said Sean Donohue, DFW CEO.
He explained that this new facility will have a 400,000-square-foot boarding corridor and also includes an expansion of Terminal E, which will add more than 9,290 square meters of new security, documentation and baggage claim facilities.
Passengers using Terminal F will check in at Terminal E and connect between the two facilities via a quick terminal-to-terminal transfer via the airport’s Skylink rail system.
“Terminal F plays a key role in preparing for the historic growth ahead for both DFW Airport and the North Texas community. This new terminal will enable us to continue to discover new ways to care for our customers, inspire the future of travel, feed our community with more jobs and create opportunities for business in our region,” said DeMetris Sampson, Chairman of the DFW Airport Board of Directors.
This new facility will have a pre-fabrication site and modules will be built before being moved, as this increases project efficiency and accelerates construction schedules by performing major activities at two sites simultaneously.
He recalled that this type of modular construction is already being used in the expansion of Terminal C and will also be used for Terminal A, “by using modular techniques for the construction of these existing facilities, the central construction activity is moved away from the terminal area, reducing operational impacts for customers and airlines.”
“This new terminal will be another important gateway for our city, improving and increasing connectivity to and from Dallas. I am thrilled to see this monumental project come to life and expand one of Dallas’ greatest assets as we prepare for even more historic growth in air travel and across our region,” said Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson.
