Customs in Mexico were paralyzed on Friday morning due to failures in the central systems , which halted any type of foreign trade operation in the country.
Through social media, various customs agent associations have warned of failures in the Automated Selection System at the national level for carrying out operations through DODA/PITA.
“As a result of the above, it is not possible to activate the Automated Selection Mechanism (MAS) under any scheme,” said the Association of Customs Agents of Metropolitan Customs (AAADAM) in a statement.
The Veracruz customs office itself published a statement in which it indicated that “there is no estimated time for the completion of the work by SAT technical groups to reestablish them (institutional applications) and, based on the agreements established in past Customs Facilitation Committees, all exits from the premises must be temporarily suspended after 11:30 a.m. to avoid saturation on the fiscal route.”
The Veracruz customs office also indicated that, as a result of this, the extension of the hours for dispatching the regular service is authorized on the days and hours that this authority considers necessary to compensate for the inconveniences caused by the failures.
At noon on Friday, the Association of Customs Agents of Nuevo Laredo (AAANL) , the most important border crossing in Mexico in terms of volume of goods crossing to or from the United States, indicated that the customs system had been reestablished, “so that modulation is now operating normally.”
This failure in the customs system had caused a line of up to 20 kilometers of stopped auto transport units in Nuevo Laredo.
This is not the first time this year that Mexican customs’ central systems have reported failures, which represents a logistical disruption for companies.
